Aarini/Aries’ Point Of View -Later that night… When I walked into my house, I hung my jacket on the rack by the door. Just as I was about to walk up the stairs, the doorbell rang. I already knew who it was before opening the door. I started walking away and Sofia closed the door behind herself. Instead of going upstairs, I walked to the living room and sat down, knowing that she was following. “Hey, how was your day?” Sofia asked, sitting down next to me. “It was okay. Longer than I expected it to be,” I said, exhaling deeply. “Another day without confessing your love for Dianna. You must be exhausted as f**k,” She said, laughing loudly as I shot her a glare. “You can stop talking right now. I don't want to hear that from you or anybody else,” I stated. She smiled, bringing her legs up on the couch. “You don’t know what can happen. A woman like that won’t be single for long. She is a catch and you are her soulmate. You should give yourself some more credit. Go out, and have fun. Women will fall at your feet Aarini. You are so hot and handsome.” She pressed. I looked at her with the biggest frown. “You should take your own advice and go out. Also, it is Aries.” I reminded her. She rolled her eyes. “You know buying blood from the hospital is going to be more suspicious than ever right? They will start to find out that it is lessening by the day,” She said to me. Yeah. I am getting my blood supplies from the hospital. I don’t need blood to survive but I need to keep my ‘diet’ balanced. I don’t change every full moon and I don’t feed very often so not drinking blood gets me weak sometimes. My dad always told me that no matter how much I try to push down the thirst for blood, it will only get worse. I had to make sure I’m playing it safe. About 10 years ago, I really went through it when I tried to stop drinking blood. I almost killed someone and that is not a mistake I want to make again. I have gotten better. I am under better control now and I am going to keep it that way. Innocent people don’t deserve to lose their lives because of me and my lack of self control. “It’s a full moon tomorrow night. Are you going out?” Sofia asked me. “No, I am staying in. My friends landed in America earlier today so I might see them tomorrow night. Hell, I might go on a run with them,” I said. She looked over at me and made a pouty face. “So aren’t you going to introduce me?” She asked “Introduce you?” I asked, chuckling. “Yes, Aarini. You and I are great friends, I run with you most mornings and I kept your secret. I never made you feel bad about yourself or anything so you owe me that,” She said. I laughed and threw my head back onto the back of the couch. “Sofie, we have only ever jogged a few days a month because you barely want to get out of your bed for work in the mornings. Secondly, do you really want me to introduce you to my werewolf friends?” I asked her. She folded her arms and laid her head on it. “Is there some code that says humans shouldn’t know about werewolves? Because every time you bring up your friends and I asked to meet them, you always ask me back the question,” She said to me. I rest my hand on hers and shook my head. “Sofie, I know that I can be a hardass but I want you to be sure about this. Not all werewolves are like me and Maxim is not very friendly. He doesn’t like humans very much,” I admitted. “What did humans ever do to him?” She asked with a frown on her face. “Humans are the reason he lost one of his siblings. Malik was 15 at the time and he told his friend that he is a werewolf. That news didn’t take long to spread and Malik couldn’t take it anymore. He ran and has been running for almost 13 years now. No sign of him and after 5 years they assumed that he died. Maxim and their family searched everywhere. They tried families and packs all over the world but no one could find it. It was only a few years ago they started saying that maybe he died,” I explained. She nodded in understanding. After a little while longer, I kicked her out of my house and went to take a shower. When I got out, I dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a tank top. I headed downstairs and into the basement, staring at the freezer packed with pure human blood. I licked my dry lips and walked over to it, taking one bag. As I drank it, I felt my thirst dying down slowly. This was what I needed and it keeps me in a sane state of mind. - -The Next Morning Omniscient Point Of View While Aries was standing in his usual spot when a familiar scent filled his nose and entered the building. Maxim and Tommy. He tried talking to them through the pack link but they ignored him. They shut him out. He listened in as they greeted people on their way up, telling them he was there to see ‘Aries Greenwood’. When they finally made it to the top floor, Aries clenched his jaw as their footsteps got closer. A few minutes went by and Aries saw two blonde-haired guys making their way towards him. Maxim was the first one to come into view and Tommy followed behind with his usual charming smile. When Maxiim got closer, Tommy grinned widely when his eyes finally landed on Aries. “Aries! Long time no see,” Tommy said, pulling Aries into a hug. “Tommy, I am working and what are you both doing here?” Aries asked, pulling away from the hug. “Oh don’t look so happy to see us, Aarini. You haven’t been answering my calls,” Maxim said to him. “It’s Aries, and I am busy,” Aries stated. “Busy guarding your mate like a dog?” Maxim asked, amused when Aries’ eyes darkened and he looked away. “Now is not the time. Max. Not here,” Aries said to him. “What happened to the alpha that is supposed to be in charge? Giving orders? Instead, you are here being a what? Bodyguard?” Maxim asked. “Did you come all this way to s**t-talk me, Maxim?” Aries asked. “I live to make your life a living hell. How have you been?” Max asked, chuckling as he pulled Aries into a hug. “I have been good, but you both need to leave,” Aries said, just as Dianna opened the door to her office. She stopped in her tracks and Tommy smiled widely. “Oh, Hi,” Dianna greeted, smiling at the two unknown men in front of her. “Hello beautiful,” Tommy greeted, reaching his hand out for her to shake. She grabbed his hand and smiled. “I’m Dianna, Aries’ boss. Who are you, if you don’t mind me asking?” Dianna asked. Tommy kissed her hand and dropped it. “I am Lucas but everyone calls me Tommy. I am Aries’ long term best friend and partner in crime,” Lucas introduced. Dianna smiled and her gaze shifted to an annoyed-looking Aries. “Oh, My Goodness! You didn’t tell me your friends are coming to visit. Please do come in,” Dianna said. Maxim chuckled which caught Dianna’s attention. “Excuse my manners. I am Maxim, Aries’ oldest friend. Tommy is my younger brother. It’s great to finally put a face to the name. Your name, Dianna speaks royalty. I hope Aries is giving you the queen treatment you deserve,” Max said, kissing her hand. His lips lingered against her smooth skin, causing her cheeks to flush. Aries clenched his jaw hard and looked away. “Aries talks about me?” Dianna asked, looking at Maxim. “Of course, but I never said they were good things,” Max teased, but Dianna didn’t know he was joking as he held a straight face. She smiled nervously and ran her hand down the front of her dress. “Well, Aries I wanted to tell you that I canceled lunch with my mom because she wanted to talk about Chad and I seriously do not want that,” Dianna said, laughing. “Who is Chad?” Tommy asked, looking up from his phone. “Her boyfriend,” Aries said, too quickly to realize his mistake. Maxim and Tommy looked at him surprised. “Chad is my ex-boyfriend. We broke up over two weeks ago,” Dianna corrected him quickly. “Awe, what happened?” Max asked her “He cheated on me with my employee and now they are dating, but enough of that. Maybe since you guys are Aries’ friends, you should tell me some stuff about him since he refuses to share anything with me,” She said, laughing. Tommy took her hand and pulled her into her office. “Let me do the honors,” Tommy smirked at Aries as he made his way inside the room. “Now I see why you haven’t made a move. You were drawn here and instead of being with her which a sane person would do, you chose to be her bodyguard. I am sure you had to see her making out with her ex and possibly hear them f*****g. Why would you put yourself through that, Aarini?” Maxim asked, seriously. Aries let out a breath and sighed. “You know why,” He said. “I really f*****g don’t. You could be happy and it’s like you are punishing yourself for something you didn’t do. You will get your revenge, Aarini. I can promise you that but you can’t keep fighting the bond. Don’t do this to yourself,” Maxim said to him and then walked into the room. Aries knew that Max was right but he wasn’t going to admit it. In his mind, he is protecting Dianna. Sparing her another heartbreak she might not get over. He already planned to return home once he cleared his name. He couldn’t be selfish and ask her to come back with him. He had a duty. He knew that he would have to tell her about who he really is. What he really is. Not only was he using a name that wasn’t his, but he is also hiding the fact that he was a part of the royal family. King Aarini Valerious. He is the alpha and a hybrid. A man that turns into a wolf over 5 feet tall. How would she react then? Not being with her is also protecting her. If no one knows who she is and how important she is to him, she could never get hurt. He would rather her think he is a cold-hearted bodyguard than have her killed. He will rather suffer than have her get hurt.
