THE NEW YEAR arrived, and Chris began to arrange things to accommodate his upcoming absence from the house. He’d arranged for Ted to stay with the Clark sisters daily until Mickey got home from work. Then Mickey could feed Ted and either take him along to the hospital or drop him off at George and Mike’s to stay with Robbie. Ted was reluctant to leave the puppy behind on those occasions, and Mickey had been afraid that Thor might have a problem with the presence of another dog, however small and unthreatening it might be. A test visit revealed that it wasn’t to be the case—Thor sniffed the puppy carefully and evidently decided he wasn’t a threat.
