Ch. 15 : Pheromones

2813 Words
At first I was feeling tense as Nyla jumped onto the next game, followed by a much more gentle and kind Daniel. But after witnessing the way the Human man was treating my friend, and sharing a round of shots with everyone, I was feeling much more relaxed. ‘Danny’, as Nyla so lovingly called him, stuck close to her as we moved from game to game. He would encourage her to try out games she’s never played before and would guide her closely or playfully tease her as she played. He knew what types of drinks she liked to have and even ordered onion rings for her which was her favorite bar snack. He held her hand throughout our trip through the maze of games and would get a soft look in his eyes when he would watch her do or say something. And Nyla was beaming during it all, planting kisses on his cheeks and lips and even showing that, with the right man, the puppy-dog look could get you anything. Even make said man lose a game on purpose just so his girlfriend could win. The hours ticked by as we all took turns playing games, drinking and egging each other on during a challenge. We also took over a booth near the back of the building for some food so the alcohol wouldn’t hit the Humans too strongly. Of course, I just talked and people-watched while Nyla pretended to be a tipsy delicate Human woman and ate her food with the others. After that we split up and had a bit of friend-time, with the men going over to challenge each other in one game that held some hidden meaning to them while Nyla and I relaxed by the bar. “Sorry to drag you along with us without checking with you first.” Nyla started, breaking the silence we had comfortably sat in while we waited for the men. “I was just really excited to have you join us and completely ignored that you came here to feed.” She looked at me with a little pout and nudged me, “You ok?” I nodded and chuckled, turning to face her fully as I downed my drink. “I’m fine Ny.” I pulled her in for a hug and whispered into her ear, “I already fed, so you don’t need to feel bad.” Her smile was bright when we pulled back and she looked ready to add on to our conversation. But when her eyes shifted to something behind me, her smile dropped and a dark look took over her sweet features. I turned and felt my own mood sour a bit as I caught sight of a group of women dressed in clubbing outfits nearly surrounding Marcus and Daniel. The two men looked pretty drunk but kept trying to move past the gaggle of horny women with Daniel doing most of the talking and Marcus appearing to get more and more irritated. A few of the women, in their overconfident, drunken stupor, would reach out as the men passed, touching their arms and chest before Marcus and Daniel could shake them off. There was even one out of their group that kept cutting into their path as they walked, forcing them to stop walking. Without a word, Nyla and I made our way towards them and she instantly latched on to her man who smiled and kissed the top of her head. This made the women regroup while the more bossy looking brunette spoke up for the lot of them. “So you are taken?” She questioned, eyeing Nyla and openly ignoring me. “Isn’t she a child?” She added, laughing as she pointed out the very youthful appearance of my secret Fairy friend. “What kind of fun could you have playing around with her?” She stepped closer to Daniel, clearly aiming for him to leave with her. “Why not ditch the playground and have a little grown up fun?” I stepped in then, forcing her back after seeing the faint glittering in my friend's eyes that could very well destroy the contacts she had on. I didn’t want her to have to expose herself like this when she clearly planned to do things slowly for Daniels sake, as well as her own. She truly cared for him, and from what I could tell, he cared for her. I didn’t want some demanding b***h to ruin things for Nyla simply because she couldn’t take NO for an answer. And especially not while we were in public. The group of women jumped a bit at the sight of me, some staring hard at my eyes that were now glowing to show off my dual colored rings. “You’re upsetting my friend.” I said coldly, keeping the glow in my eyes and feeling my refueled power sing within me. “So why don’t you turn around and find another d**k to ride? Preferably one that’s not taken.” The woman before me scoffed, looking pissed while a few of her friends slowly retreated, looking scared and nervous. “I don’t take orders from talking piles of garbage.” She retorted, looking rather pleased with herself. “And why not take a moment to look at yourself first, sweetheart.” She waved at my outfit as if it were nothing more than a potato sack with holes on it. “You look like you just left your job as the opener at Temptations.” She laughed, mentioning the local stripclub while a couple of her friends laughed with her. “At least I’m not dressed like a rejected bridesmaid.” Daniel choked behind me and I could swear that Marcus tried to cover up a chuckle with a cough too. The brunette looked embarrassed that the men laughed at her and appeared to be plotting my death as well before she stammered something about my worth as a woman and turned away. I just shrugged it off and looked back at Nyla, happy to see that her contacts had survived her temper. “Stupid slut.” Nyla muttered, staring at the retreating females. “I wish you could’ve done more to them for trying something so pathetic.” I smiled mischievously, wiggling my fingers at her. “Shall I?” I asked her, feeling the men stare at us in confusion. Nyla smiled even wider, a dark little glint in her eyes, “Do it.” “Do what?” Marcus asked cautiously, eyeing my still wiggling fingers. “How bad?” I asked her, ignoring the curious and worried look of the Detective. “Well, she tried to take Danny from me.” She mussed, looking up at the man in question who stared back at her with so much confusion on his face. “And she insulted you and the dress I made you… so how about a vial's worth?” I hummed in response and caught Marcus arching a brow in a silent question, which only made me laugh. “I was thinking more like a beaker or water bottles worth.” Nyla thought it over, shrugged, then nodded, smiling at me. “What is going on right now?” Daniel asked as I turned to find the still moping women in the distance. I could hear Nyla explain things to them while I raised my hand and pulled on the power within my body, feeling it pulse in response to my call. Nyla, Nick and I had a bit of a code that we used whenever someone was deserving of punishment from any one of us. We usually measured their actions accordingly and would agree on how much power Nyla or I used to punish them. So, using my surname since it means poison, we would call out different sized containers that represent their level of suffering. The smallest would be a few drops and the largest and most painful would be a bathtub… though there had been few moments when an ocean of poison was needed. But that could only mean a very painful death. After a few seconds a pale lavender mist soon pooled around my raised arm and I silently gave it a command before it left my body completely and vanished into nothing. A second later my Pheromones could be seen hovering over the women before breaking up into identical puffs of mist and diving towards their intended target, entering their bodies. Smiling, I glanced over to find Detective Marcus watching me, his gray eyes searching my face before he looked back at the women. “So, what does a water bottle mean for them?” Danny asked, leaning in so he could hear me while Nyla continued to look at me with so much mischievous glee in her eyes. “Oh, nothing much really.” I answered calmly, smiling and waving when I locked eyes with the snobby brunette for a short moment. “I’m only going to knock them off their high horse by making it so every man they go after rejects them without a second thought.” I chuckled a bit when both men’s eyes widened as we turned away and moved on. “It’ll last a couple days before fading from them, so with any luck, they’ll learn their lesson.” Nyla laughed and hugged me tightly before turning away and pulling Danny towards a game that had been freed up. We continued drinking, talking, joking and playing as the hours ticked by, thankful that the tense, awkward atmosphere quickly left us. But it was while we were talking, and thanks to the many drinks, that I soon learned things that were sticking to my mind. Things that were making it hard for me to fight against my attraction to the Detective that I was trying to stay away from. It turned out that Hannah was Danny’s step-sister and was also no longer engaged to Detective Marcus after some massive fight that happened after Christmas. So nearly two months had passed since he had broken things off with her. And it also turned out that she was the one that wanted to fix things. Detective Marcus was surprisingly open to me about this topic while we watched our friends play and a part of me hated how hopeful and eager I felt after learning about it all. The fading red thread over his heart made sense now and I could see that a piece of him was bothered by how their relationship had crashed. But the thing that bothered me the most was how he was looking at me and the tone of his voice. There was something struggling within his gaze that was being masked by the clear curiosity that shined through the most. Emotions that flitted by as he spoke to me would stir something in my mind and seemed to even cause him discomfort at times too, making his head ache and wince every once in a while. Then there was his voice. It wavered a bit between a calm, friendly tone that he used while talking to Nyla and Danny, and a much deeper, sultrier tone that heated up my body more than I wanted to admit. I knew the alcohol was making him a little less inhibited and certain thoughts and emotions were coming to the surface that he probably kept under control. But now, in a dark space with loud music and chatter, standing so close that his body and mine burned up at the contact, these inner intentions and desires were taking over. And for some reason, even though I had just fed hours ago, my Demonic Core was reacting to this closeness. I wanted to be closer, much, much closer. I wanted to feel every flushed brush of his body on mine. I wanted to tear away this damned dress that was suddenly feeling uncomfortable on me. I wanted so very badly to drag this dangerously sexy man and push his desire to the limits, and for him to push mine. I wanted to see just what kind of beast he unleashed in the bedroom, whether he was a gentle, romantic lover, or if he was a much more domineering man that would force me into submission. I wanted all of him… right f*****g now…. “Hey Dev!” I jumped as Nyla called out to me, blinking hard and realizing that I was pressed up against the Detective, his arm holding me tightly by my waist. He too seemed momentarily confused and dropped his arm, stepping back a bit and looking at me. My breath was coming in heavy and hard, with a whirling rush that was spinning in my head, making me stumble towards my friend. “Whoa, you ok?” Nyla asked me, holding me by my shoulders to steady me. I nodded, avoiding those steele gray eyes that I had lost myself in and fighting against the sudden loss of control I had over my Core. Danny joined us a second later with drinks and I quickly downed mine, still avoiding the searching eyes of the man behind me. I was still very flushed and dazed, my breathing slowly returning to normal and helping clear the heady fog that remained in my head. I could hear Nyla covering for me as I looked around at everything and everyone else in the large building, smiling a little as my sweet Fay kept the men away from me. But while I was fighting to push my desires and naughty thoughts away, I caught sight of the little Demon bartender that had spiked my drink when I first arrived, effectively distracting me further. She looked nervous and clearly had been waiting for me to look in her direction, waving me over urgently while she spoke to a coworker. I ignored Nyla and the men behind me and made my way towards the bar, catching sight of a Human-Demon couple that looked upset a few feet away. “Is everything ok?” I asked, wondering why she had called for me. “I’m so very sorry but it seems that there has been a huge mix-up with our bottles and one of your friends was dosed.” She spoke rapidly and clasped her hands over her chest, looking near tears as she continued. “You see, we have a side business that my friend and I do to help other Demons in all kinds of situations. And this couple here are looking to have a baby, but the women's fertility cycle has already passed, and they don’t want to wait for the next one.” I nodded, already sensing where this was going, that is, until all the dots connected with her next words. “So my friend gathered an Incubus’ Pheromones for them and had them stored in a similar bottle that usually holds the Muria or our own personal Liquor… and one of our Human coworkers poured most of it into your friend's drink.” I stiffened for a moment, sighing in defeat and turning to look at the others who were watching me. My gaze locked on Danny who was mostly distracted and acting all lovey with Nyla, my eyes zeroing in on the mix-drink still in his hand. “That won't be a problem.” I told the panicked Demon. “That’s my friend's boyfriend so-” I stopped, seeing the still worried Demon shake her head rapidly. “It wasn’t the blond that was dosed, it was the other man you’re with.” Unwillingly, feeling a clash of conflicting emotions begin to drown my mind, I moved my eyes towards Detective Marcus who was blankly staring back at me. My heart thumped hard and the rush returned to my body, my mind recalling everything I had felt mere minutes ago and the fog threatening to take over again while my Demonic Core hummed loudly. I sucked in a deep breath as I forced myself to turn away, fighting to regain control of myself. I exhaled deeply and braced my hands on one of the stools, staring down at the bartop while a single word slipped out of me, “Fuck.” ***Hello my lovely readers! Im back! Im terribly sorry for being gone so long. Too much got in the way of my writing and overwhelmed me for a bit. My mental health took a hit and I struggled to regain the urge to write because of some family drama. But all is well now! I'm feeling much better and very ready to continue writing! :) More chapters will be coming in later today and hopefully tonight if I manage to edit them in time. Thank you so much for your patience!***
