Chapter Eight

Mauve’s (POV)

I was getting irritated with Damian. He wanted everything to happen right now, and that is not how blood magic works. It's all about timing and the timing wasn’t right. Actually, this whole thing wasn’t right. I know you have heard part of my story but you didn’t hear it from me. Everly did kill me that day just like she was asked to. I wasn’t mad at her for doing what she had to do, she was trying to protect our family. I had done some bad things for the very wrong reasons. I am not evil, not like I was. That day I was supposed to die. The Elders saved me and taught me how to control my magic that was given to me. The day that Damian kidnapped the King, I convinced him not to kill him but to keep him alive he would suffer more. I was playing the part of evil for a reason. The Elders have known that this man was up to no good. That's why I became his witch in a sense. I could kill this man anytime and I can promise you that he won’t get his hands on the one thing he needs. If he does, he will die. Once this whole power-hungry battle is over, I will expose the Elder’s they are the reason blood magic is in this world in the first place.

Scarlett’s (POV)

I felt kinda bad kicking Dimitri out of my room, but he needed to go see his father. I knew I was fine, I also knew the Moon Goddess paid us a visit, granted I wasn’ present for it, but Alex was and she explained everything that happened. Dimitri and I now had a place to start and, hopefully, it would give us all the answers we needed. After Dimitri left, I used the bathroom and dug into my dinner, and let me tell you it was so good. I was flipping through the channels while I ate when someone knocked on my door and walked in.

“ Scarlett! Are you alright?” Asked mom.

“ Yes, I am fine. More than fine actually. These last few days have been hell for me, and now that everything's out in the open I feel like this big weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can breathe. I feel like I can be me again and not the me everyone sees.” I said

I saw the look Mom gave me. “ Mom, don’t give me that look. I’m not talking about the getting in trouble stuff. I’m just going to use my voice and actually feel like I’m gonna be heard and seen.” I said

“ Hon what do you mean? I have always heard you and listened to you.” Said Mom. “ I know you did, Mom. But I meant growing up after learning everything and knowing about the dangers out there, I feel like I never really lived. I never let people in except Willow. I had a few boys ask me on dates, but I never said yes. I closed myself off in a lot of ways.” I said

“Why did you close yourself off so much?” asked Mom

“ I guess in the end I was afraid. Don’t get me wrong I still worry about what is going to happen, but I’m not going to let it stop me from living my life with Dimitri. I know that there is a fight coming and we will be ready for it.” I said

“ I never meant to make you feel like you couldn’t live a somewhat normal life.” Said Mom

“ This is going to sound crazy but I think in my mind I knew I was waiting for Dimitri. Like I said I know it’s a crazy thought but when those boys asked me out, a part of me wanted to say yes but I always ended up saying no.” I said

“ Maybe your wolf has always been with you and that’s why. For the record I don’t think you're crazy. I was the same way growing up, I had my friends, but for the most part I kept to myself. I was waiting for my forever.” Said Mom

It felt good getting that off my chest, Mom had tried to get me to do more things within reason. There were a lot of things Willow and I had done still without asking, I know she knew but she still never called me out on it.Which made me feel a little guilty for not being honest. She had even encouraged me to date. Back then I felt crazy about how I felt. I took the time to tell her what happened about Dimitri and I getting a visit from the Moon Goddess and how the answer’s we needed were at the palace. “ I talked to Arianna before I came to your room and she told me that Declan should be released tomorrow, your father went to talk to him to see what he planned. We offered the house as a place to stay. What are you and Dimitri going to do?” Asked Mom

“I have no idea, we didn’t talk about what the Goddess said. I kicked him out so he could go see his dad. I told Dimitri I would meet him when Derek released me. He should have been here a while ago, would you mind seeing if you could find him?” I asked. “Sure.” Mom nodded

While I waited for mom to get back I took the opportunity to put my pants back on and my socks and shoes. I couldn't change into my shirt yet because of the IV, I still had. Thankfully it didn’t take mom long to find the good doctor. They both walked into my room together.

“ Scarlett, how are you feeling?” asked Derek I replied with “ I feel great, the food definitely helped out a lot.” I said

“Perfect, that's what we like to hear. Let's get this IV out, with everything that happened I would like to see you again in a few days if you're still here.” Said Derek. I wasn’t sure if we would be here or not with everything that we learned. “How about I let you know before we leave the pack.” I said. “ I can work with that.” said Derek

I signed all my release papers and Derek left after giving my mom a hug and telling her how happy he was to see her again.

“ Hon if you're ok I’m going to find your father. We will come by later and show you to the pack house. Oh I almost forgot your father is planning a little party for your birthday tomorrow, since you didn’t get to have the one you planned.” Said Mom. “I appreciate it but it really won’t be the same if it’s a party full of people I don’t know.” I said

“Yes I know but he still feels bad, But Willow will be here and Dimitri asked to invite his best friend Asher.” said Mom

“ Ok, I guess the pack did at one time know me right.” I said

She nodded and left the room in search of my father. I wasn’t thrilled about the party, I had hoped to meet the pack slowly. I saw the look mom gave me and I knew that this was something that meant alot to my dad. I finished getting dressed and took the time to make myself look a little more presentable and to brush my teeth after sleeping and eating. I finished up and grabbed my bag and went to find my mate. It didn’t take me long and I was standing in front of his door. I swallowed and knocked on the door. “ Come in,” said someone.

I opened the door and found Dimitri and his mom sitting and talking to the man sitting in the bed. He and Dimitri looked so much alike. I didn’t know what to say and Dimitri must have picked up on how I was feeling cause he quickly got up and walked over to me.

“Hey is everything alright?” asked Dimitri

“ Yeah, everything is good. He wants me to check in, in a few days.” I said

“ Ok we will make sure that we are here for that. Come meet my Dad.” Said Dimitri. I nodded and let him pull me inside and let the door close.

“ Dad, this is Scarlett, my mate. Scarlett, this is my dad Declan.” Said Dimitri

“ Hello sir, it's very nice to meet you.” I said

“ Oh dear please call me Declan, Sir was my father. I have heard a lot of wonderful things about you in the short time my son and I have been talking. Thank you for helping my son, and I hear it was your brilliant idea that aided in my rescue.” said Declan

“ Your welcome, I’m glad I was able to help and I’m glad that my idea helped bring you home to your family.” I said

Declan was so nice that it was easy to relax and settle into the conversation. I listened as Dimitri told him about growing up and all the trouble he and Asher would cause. It was nice to hear stories about him growing up. Arianna spoke about her other children who were with her mother. From the way they talked the other two children who were named Dominic and Daniela were twins. Turns out Arianna was pregnant when Declan was taken, they had just turned eleven years old. I was glad my father’s pack was able to bring a Husband and Father home to his family. I’m not sure how long we sat there and talked, but I could tell by the look on Declans face he was ready to fall asleep as was I, it had been a long trying day. I yawned and looked at my phone and it was almost nine. I sent a quick text to my mom letting her know I was finishing up visiting. I needed to eat something, shower and sleep. I stood and stretched “ I’m sorry, I’m exhausted. I’m going to have to excuse myself and head for the pack house. I’ve had a very long day, it was so wonderful to meet you and I look forward to chatting some more.” I said. “ Of course, Dimitri explained a little bit about what happened. Dimitri take your mate home and make sure she is taken care of. If all goes well I should get to go home tomorrow, or in this case to your family house while I get my strength back. We can talk more tomorrow about that. You two take your time coming back tomorrow.” said Declan. Dimitri chuckled “okay dad, how about mom just calls and lets me know when to come back.” said Dimitri. We said our goodbyes and Dimitri hugged his dad and grabbed our bag before I had a chance and we walked out of the room. Mom had texted earlier told me that finding the pack house wouldn’t be hard and that she had food waiting for us. “Are you feeling alright?” asked Dimitri. “ I’m hungry and really tired, I just want to eat and take a bath. I really like your dad.” I said. “ Thank you he’s just like I remember. He really liked you, told me when I gave him a hug. Let’s get you home my love.” said Dimitri

We walked hand in hand out of the hospital and as we left I felt some not so friendly glances, I also heard a few choice things that were being said. One younger woman was stupid enough to stop us.

“Prince Dimitri, how nice to see you again. My friend Jenna and I were wondering if you were still planning to have your find a mate party?” asked the girl. “ I’m not sure what party you are referring to, the only party planned in the future is my coronation/wedding. Have you met my mate Scarlett Mason, her father is Noah Mason.” said Dimitri. Her eyes widened when she realized what an ass she just made out of herself and yet she still opened her mouth. “ That can’t be the Alpha's daughter, everyone knows she and his mate were killed,” said the girl. I was about to say something when I looked and watched my father walk in. He walked right up to us and gave me a hug and slapped Dimitri on the back. “ Scarlett, I’m sorry I didn’t get down here see you earlier everything with the breach kept me pretty busy.” said Dad. “ That’s alright dad, I understand. Did mom send you down here?” I asked. “ No she didn’t, I’m just making my last rounds, had a few new warriors get hurt today. I came to check on them.” said Dad.

Dad knew something was going on with these two girls. Based on that look, I was going out on a limb to say they caused a lot of trouble around here. I wasn’t going to say anything about today cause it wasn’t worth the trouble and in a few days we wouldn’t even be here. Dad excused himself and that's when I looked at the girls. “ Girl’s desperation doesn't look good on anyone. You represent this pack and in the future will represent the future Queen. You will learn to respect those around you. If your need to find a mate is that dyer, I’m sure we can find a way to arrange that. As for the future, not every man you see is available nor do they want your attention. My father won’t hear of what happened today unless you give me a reason otherwise.” I said. I hadn’t intended to let Alex come forward that much, but it apparently had gotten my point across, cause they walked away and didn’t say anything. We walked out and made our way to the pack house, the closer we got I could smell food and my mouth started to water and my stomach started to grumble. I will say it again, I wasn’t used to eating this much.The pack house came into full view and it was beautiful. It was huge and very rustic looking on the outside. It was at least three stories, it actually reminded me of a very fancy Hotel. We walked in the front door and sat our stuff down and followed the delicious smells. We found mom in the kitchen and she was baking. “ Mow, what are you doing?” I asked. “ I made you guys some food and I figured I would make baskets for the mates of the injured warriors and their families.” said mom

I watched mom pull a sheet of cookies out of the oven and put a new batch in. The finished cookies she placed on a cooling rack and then sat the pan down. Grabbed two plates from the cabinet and dished up spaghetti and what looked like meatballs. She placed them at the island bar. I didn’t waste time, I sat down and started eating. Dimitri did the same. She grabbed two bottles of water and garlic bread and gave them to us. “ Thank you mom, this is so good.” I said

“ Your welcome hon. Derek told me to make sure you eat. He thinks a lot of what happened is you haven’t been eating enough due to the change. Now that you have your wolf you will burn a lot more energy and calories.” said mom. I nodded knowing they were right. We finished eating.

“ Dimitri, I hear your dad will hopefully get released tomorrow.” said mom. “ According to the doctor everything looked good, they gave him a strict diet so he can gain the weight back. Again I want to thank you for letting my family stay at your home. I can rest easy knowing they will be safe there.” said Dimitri

“ You don’t have to thank me, your family now and that's the least we could do. I spoke with your mother and she asked me to bring your grandmother and siblings here for the party. “ said Mom

“ I didn’t know that. This is the longest my mom has been away brother and sister. My dad knowing that mom was pregnant and not being able to be there for her and me, he said was by far the worst punishment he could ever receive.” said Dimitri

“ You can tell him that he is here now. And that’s all that matters now. If you're both done eating, I will show you to your room. It's been a long day for all of us.” said mom

We followed her out of the kitchen, Dimitri grabbed our bag and we followed mom up a few flights of stairs. Once we reached the third floor, we passed by two doors and then we reached the end of a hallway. “ This is your wing no one is allowed up here except for us and of course you and Dimitri. Your dad had it renovated for you, we also know that you won’t be living here full time but we want you to know that you always have a place to stay, anytime that your hear to visit." Said mom“ I will thank dad in the morning, thank you mom for dinner. Everything was wonderful. But I am ready to shower and lay down.” I said. “ Of course sweetheart. Goodnight to you both.” said mom as she shut the door. I looked around the room and took in everything, it looked a lot like my room at home. Simple and welcoming, as I looked around I noticed the pictures on the walls were of us before we had to leave. Looking at them now made me sad knowing how much we all really truly missed out on, but it also made me angry for what Dameion had done to my family but also to his own.

“ Babe, can you promise me something?” I asked. “ Of course.” said Dimitri. “ Can you promise me that when we find your uncle he will truly pay for all the pain and wrongdoing he has caused?” I asked

“ I promise you he will pay for everything. Come on let’s get you a bath and then we will find a movie to relax to. Right now let’s just be here, we can worry about everything else tomorrow.” said Dimitri. I followed him into the bathroom and watched as he started the water as the tub filled with hot water he gathered up three towels and put them inside a warmer. Steam started to accumulate on the mirror, and the aroma of honeysuckle and lavender. “ Why did you grab three towels?” I asked. He looked at me with worry in his eyes “ I plan to join you, I want to take care of you while you relax. Today when you collapsed everything went pear shaped. You didn’t look good, everyone thought you were dead. When I went to feel for your pulse you didn’t have one, at least I couldn’t feel one. Then you started breathing, I kept asking you to open your eyes as I held you on the floor and no matter how hard I tried you wouldn’t wake up. Then when you woke up and Derek told us about what happened with you behind closed doors, it scared the s**t out of me that I could have lost you today. I’m not pushing for anything s****l, it's just Dane and I need to be close to you right now.” Tears slid down my cheeks as I listened to what he said, of course what happened to me would have scared him. I stripped off my clothes and stepped into the hot water and sat down slowly, Dimitri quickly did the same and stepped in behind me. I laid back and rested against his chest and said “ Okay, I can’t imagine what that felt like when that happened today, if it would have been you I probably would have panicked or worse. Today I was so worried about something happening to both of our families and I got carried away with the magic. When the big secret was still a secret, I couldn’t talk to you about certain things due to the rule. The guilt really started to bother me, and my mom knew that. What I think triggered me and all my stress was learning everything about our family history and our so called future, this dark hole just started to form. I felt like our happiness and life was meant to be put on hold, I don’t want to live our lives that way. I understand that being Royal the people come first but not always.” I said

“ Scarlett, I need you to know now that everything is out in the open. I don’t want you to hide anything from me ok. Please talk to me and tell me what and how you are feeling. And as for our life and happiness will not take a backseat, I promise you that we will live our life the way we want to, and not the way some old dead person from our past says. All we can do is our best and if that isn’t good enough for other people then to hell with them. I love you and we can get through this together.” said Dimitri

I nodded and relaxed against him, this was everything I needed. As we soaked he washed my hair making sure the hospital smell was gone, it was so nice that I don’t even know how much time had gone by but the water was starting to get a chill to it. Dimitri stood up and stepped out and grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his waist. I was definitely enjoying the view, it definitely excited me and also made me very nervous! I stood up and stepped into the towel and wrapped it around myself. I took the other towel out of the warmer and wrapped up my hair, I started to dry off my body getting lost in thought when I heard Dimitri open the door to the bathroom, I didn't even notice he slipped out until he was handing me my toiletries bag and my pj's. I said "Thank You" and quickly got dressed brushed my hair and teeth. Dimitri was already dressed and flipping through the channels, I climbed under that blankets and snuggled up to him, he finally settled on a movie, I could feel my eyes getting heavy and I slowly drifted off to sleep.

I woke the next morning feeling a lot better than I was yesterday, I stretched and felt next to me Dimitri's side of the bed was empty already. I rolled over and found a note on his pillow.

Good Morning Beautiful,

After yesterday I knew you needed to rest and you looked so peaceful when I woke up. Call me when you wake up and I will come home. I came down to the hospital to see my Dad. I asked for your breakfast to be sent up, enjoy a day of relaxation. I Love You and I will see you for lunch.

I smiled at the note. I sat up and stretched and slipped out of bed and walked into the common area, and sure enough there was my breakfast waiting for me. I sat down at the table, I pulled the silver dome off the tray and everything looked wonderful. There as pancakes, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns. I was famished, I loaded up my plate and turned on the TV, I logged into my Netflix account and turned on supernatural. I settled in on the couch, It had been a long time since I actually just sat around and chilled, not going to lie its really nice. I was always so busy during the week with school and then my weekends were busy taking pictures either for someone else or to sell. I got done eating and decided to just text Dimitri in case he was busy.

ME: Hey Love, Thank you for having breakfast sent up it was wonderful. How is your Dad today?

D: Your Welcome. Did you get plenty to eat and are you feeling better? My Dad is actually in the process of getting released, he wants to get out a get a big of fresh air before we come to the pack house. I just saw your mom she told me when I heard from you to text her.

ME: I did, and yes I feel a lot better still kinda tired but Derek said that would happen. I think my body is more sore than anything after collapsing. Oh good Im so happy he gets to come home. Oh ok did she happen to say what she wanted?

D: Im glad you are feeling better, I think we will stay at least one more day before we travel to the palace, plus with your party. No she didn't mention anything

ME:Okay, I have a feeling this is more than just a birthday party. I will text her and then Im going to get in a nap.

He didn't respond back so that really got me thinking there was more to this party that what I was told. I cleared my plates and put them back on the tray and went back to my bedroom to lay down and watch my show from there instead. I wasn't really tired but laying down in this bed was like laying on a cloud.

ME: Hey Mom, Dimitri said to text you.

Mom: Yes, are you busy or can I come by and talk?

Me: Yeah, I'm just resting the company would be nice.

It didn't take long and Mom was knocking on my bedroom door. "It's open." I said

" Hey hon how are you feeling?" Asked Mom

" Tired but I'm more sore than anything. So whats up I can tell you have something on your mind." I said

" You know me to well. So I kind of planned a small little welcome home dinner/party for Delcan and I got the go ahead from Arianna to portal the children in like in the next hour. She told me that Dimitri told them all about you and she asked if you would be there when the portal opened up. There grandmother also has a picture of you just to make her feel safe given the situation. Are you up for helping me out?" asked mom

" Thats really sweet of you mom and I would love to help. I actually wanted to ask you something that's kinda personal." I said

" Thank you I just figured that our new family could use a pick me up. What is it that you wanted to ask me." Said Mom

" I'm just going to come out and ask. Can Dimitri and I mark each other without having to have s*x?" I asked

"Oh wow that isn't what I expected you to ask. For wolves you can mark each other without being intamate, but since he is a Lycan and you are not I don't know if the same rules apply. My advice would be to ask your mate, I know that is a scary thing to let someone in to see the parts of you that have been kept in that safe space meant for only your soul mate." said mom

" Your right I should just suck it up and ask him. But you are right. That safe space hasn't been opened since I created that safe space, I remember wanting so badly to experience all the things Willow did just to know what it was like, its not like boys didn't ask me out or pay attention to me. I just a part of me knew that I wanted to wait for my soul mate. But then I feel really stupid knowing he didn't wait for me. I feel like one of us actually lived life and while I just watched life pass me by." I said, it kept coming just like vomit I couldn't stop it and it didn't realize how much that actually bothered me, I started to cry. Mom just looked at me and pulled me into a hug. " You listen to me right now, you didn't let life pass you by. You chose a different path than the rest of your friends and you chose to get an education. Yes, you may have gone and hung out and participated in somethings. Be proud that you followed your own path and not the path of everyone else, you stayed true to yourself no matter the pressure you got from Willow. That's why she dropped out and moved out. I caught her with a boy in my house and she knew the rules. I let you go out and do what you needed because I trusted you. Yes, I got a little crazy when you got older, but that was out of my own fear. I had your trust and you had mine." Said mom
