That evening I was so excited that I had just been assigned to my first official function as a social prefect. The senior prefect, some other students and I were to represent our school in a the Red cross international day event the following day which is on a Saturday. I was so excited. One of our teachers were to follow us as well as make sure that we get to the venue where this event will be taking place and get back to our houses safely. I was really excited but underneath this excitement, I had this feeling that everything will not go well. My parents like other average African parents had a problem with me engaging extra curricular activities. All they want to hear is that I came first in class and nothing else. I had no problem with that as far as I'm allowed to do some certain things that people of my age do. But even at that, they still made sure I don't do anything they disapprove of.
That evening, I got back home all excited as I shared the good news to my parents. At first they were both cold towards the announcement I had just made. I knew they wouldn't let me go but this time I was ready to fight for my freedom not minding the consequences. So I ignored the reaction I got from them and continued with the day's regular activities. It was night already. Before I went to sleep made sure my uniform was well ironed and my shoe well polished as well as my socks.
Waking up the next morning, I took my bath as I prepared for school. Just then did my mum start shouting. I knew she'd say something. I just knew it.
