Chapter 2

The plate went straight towards the wall and shattered almost dropping one inch from Lira's head. The pieces and shards of the plate pierced through her cheek before she could even make any decision of turning away. “I f**king told you, you bastard, I needed hot soup and you gave me a cold one.” Joshua snapped as he sat on the leather sofa like the whole house came to be because of his weight. “The soup you gave me was cold, you stupid girl.” “I'm sorry, I'm ……” “Shut the f**k up, what are you gonna do?” He rose to his feet and moved across the room with a slow pace. “You'll make it again? That's the fourth time you're gonna say that this week, fourth time!” Lira steadied her gaze on the floor and dared not to look at him as he spoke, she stared at the broken pieces of plates scattered on the floor which was near her bare feet. The broken piece was close in the way that if she moved her bare feet closer it's going to cut her. She was now Eighteen and throughout her stay in this house that never really mattered. Her mind never steadied on even knowing what numbers look like. She had been used, tortured and made a living example to other maids in the house especially by Joshua who was her constant tormentor. Joshua was Damon's only son and the male believed as heir to his entire legacy and he had taken after his father characteristically if not more than him. He was tall and had a giant build with dark hair and thick black eye lashes that arched on his brow into a perfect feminine shape. He was every woman's dream but his behavior and manners were not something one could talk about. Damon has kidn*pped Mara since the night of the accident and made her a slave girl in his own house. “Pick it up, with your bare hands and not the broom ” Joshua screamed towards her as she stood still in the shards. She knelt and started to pick it up The first piece stabbed into her hands hard and she winced in pain immediately. “Joshua!” A voice called out suddenly from the door. It was Damon and nobody noticed he had been there watching the hell his son was letting loose on the innocent young girl. His voice was calm and unhurried and it was layered with a kind of dark feigning kindness for the moment. He wore a dark long robe that cost a fortune and watched his son the way a hunter watched his hunting dog prey on an innocent animal. “Don't damage hands, remember she still has the floor to clean before dinner.” “Dad she ruined my soup, she prepared trash calling it soup.” “Then what's the best punishment for her?” He leaned closer asking sarcastically. “I guess you made that decision dad, she's ruined my day already” “Then she'll go without eating until she gets it right.” Damon said and stepped further into the room. He glared at Lira with a little interest that gave him a bit of luxury. “Isn't that appropriate, girl?” Lira was silent because ten years of staying here had taught her that answering questions was another trap in its own. “I asked you a question, bitch.” He shot a sharp stare at her. “Ye..yes sir.” She said fearfully and bowed slightly. “That's my girl, now clean this up property, you know we have guests coming and I won't tolerate any form of embarrassment because of your lack of competence.” He turned and left the room, then Joshua waited for a brief moment and leaned closer towards her so that Lira could feel his breath for a brief moment. “You used to be a fighter, what happened to that?” He said suddenly and asked in a more thoughtful tone like he was making a reference to get older. *You and your father happened* She said in her thoughts as she gathered the broken piece and they cut into her. He walked away laughing under his breath and Lira knelt alone on the marble floor sobbing silently with her blood trickling into the spilled soup splattered on the floor. For a brief moment a flash of her mothers kitchen came back to her memory. It was warm, cozy and always had a lingering aroma of ginger ale and cinnamon. Then the memories disappeared just as they had come. She could withstand spending her entire childhood as a maid in her uncle's house scrubbing the floor and attending to the beck and call of her cousin. ******” Meanwhile outside the estate wall Larry was watching everything that happened to his sister. He was there before everything happened in the room and was there after. He laid flat against the cold grass and had hidden in the shadow of an old oak tree that was taller than the mansion itself. He had a binocular positioned where he watched all what happened to his sister in fury. This was the third week of watching his sister now and he had studied the entire pattern of the house. The rotation of the guards both morning, afternoon and evening shift and the hours the family kept He had studied little cracks and weaknesses that could c***k the place open and he knew all this wasn't really enough if he wanted to get his sister back. He had watched how his sister was treated the entire time, the way Joshua treated her and dealt with her mercilessly. And now he was watching her pick broken pieces of plate with her bare bleeding hands, and taking in the pain silently. God, this is inhumane.” He exclaimed as he stared at the camera once again. His fingers found the shutter in fury and he clicked it twice to take the picture of his sister. He saw her approach the kitchen and saw the blood dripping into the dishwasher as she watched the remaining plates, he couldn't imagine the kind of pain she would be feeling at the moment. He felt guilty he wasn't able to save his sister from being taken away. How she screamed his name ten years ago and he wasn't able to do anything. Now he was back he had built an army brick by brick and he had everything needed to save his sister and take Damon down. It had taken a lot of time but he was here for her. The camera shook in his hands as he watched how she practically did the dishes with breading hands. He got furious bit by bit and had no iota of gentleness in him. “I'm here to save you Lira.” He whispered to the camera even if it was far away. He brought the camera to a lower angle even if he had seen enough. “I have seen more than enough.” He told his guards. He had seen more than enough in three weeks and he had taken more than what he had expected. This he couldn't withstand. He had studied more than enough for his guards to take note and he had kept enough information about the mansion. About the guards shift and rotation. He knew which door stayed locked and unlocked between early mornings and evenings. The heaviest sleeper in the house was Damon and both he and his son slept in adjoining rooms. He had everything gathered all he needed to do next is act. He raised his camera for the final time to capture the layout of the corridor at the east for him to add to his notes. Everything was set, now they need to make plans on how to bring his sister back.
