Chapter 58: Checkpoint Station

When Takol opened his eyes, he was no longer inside the Infinity his last logout spot, but an entirely different starship. Its hallways were dark, the doorways overly tall and pointy, the polished floor reflecting himself and Serry like a obsidian mirror and leading them to an equally gloomy room only illuminated by a tactical holographic map of a strange structure.

Around the display, Kramen and all the other Riders awaited, distracted in conversation. As soon as Takol entered the room, however, everyone’s attention was turned to him, and a chorus of applause quickly followed.

Luca felt a tear creeping up both his digital and real face, but held it back with a tight smile.

“I see everyone’s heard about what happened?” he asked as the applause faded away.
