I grab the duffle bag of clothes Malekai had left next to the door and just before I leave, my mate asks about the vampire. I really wish she hadn't. My hope is that we would find him in the next few days, before she had time to think about it. I wanted to be able to tell her that I killed it and she didnt have to worry anymore.
I want her to feel safe here, because she is. As long as I am alive, no one will ever hurt her again. I tell her the truth. "We wounded him. Badly, but he did escape. Don't worry, we'll find him." She nods her beautiful head, and I wink at her before I leave closing the door behind me.
I move quickly. It feels wrong to be away from her already, to leave her alone in the hospital. I need to get back to her as soon as I can. Running toward the pack house with lightning speed, I mind link Malekai and tell him to meet me upstairs in my room in five minutes.
Then I mind link my mother and ask her to please run out to the garden and get as many roses as she can, and bring them to my room in about five minutes as well.
I burst through the front door and skid to a halt in the kitchen doorway. Mrs. Leoni, Malekai’s mother is in the kitchen preparing food. “MRS LEONI, I NEED HELP!” I yell to her.
It startles her and she launches her wooden spoon into the air. “Really Alexander?” she says slightly irritated with me.
“I'm sorry but I need help, she's here! I need things. Clothes! She's here please help me!” I beg her, I need to get upstairs and I can’t get the words out fast enough, so I mind link her.
Mrs. Leoni stands speechless for a moment. “Oh Alexander! Right away my dear. Anything at all you need for our Luna!” Mrs. Leoni says to me, proudly.
I smile as I take off up the stairs to the second floor. I'm running down the hall, and I stop about halfway as I can see someone is standing in front of my door. I walk the last few feet and see it’s Brynn. I sigh hoping this won't take long.
Brynn is a she-wolf in our pack who I had become friends with. We had been spending time together more and more this past year. I had started settling into the idea that this pack may indeed have no Luna.
After ten years of searching I had given up and focused everything on the pack. So I decided to try and find a companion.
Brynn and I started going to functions together. Birthday parties, a few weddings, and a couple of the pack's business functions. I never slept with her. I have never even hugged her, and she had never been to my room, or even on the second floor. I had no feelings for her, even before my mate, and I was very clear with her about that.
“Brynn, what can I do for you?” I ask her politely, though I feel like I should be irritated with her. I stand silently waiting for her to answer.
She is standing here looking at me, an odd expression on her face. I don't have time for this, though I'm not yet sure what this is.
I need to go into my room but I am unwilling to open the door at this point, on the off chance she tries to come inside, since she is behaving so strangely.
Now that I had found my mate I felt like it was inappropriate for her to even be up here. She smiles at me strangely and then asks if she can come inside. "Can I come in Alex? I just wanted to come and visit with you for a while.” Brynn asks me smiling oddly.
I shake my head at her and say, “I’m sorry Brynn, I know I have invited you into the packhouse before, but I don't think you should have just come up here without permission. It’s completely inappropriate for you to be here, on this floor of the house."
Brynn frowns and pout her lips as she speaks. At this point I'm just puzzled, as to why she was acting like a strange child, instead of the adult I believed her to be. She had never behaved this way before. “Pleeease Alexander. I just want to come in and visit. We used to do things together.” She whines.
Adrian snarls loudly, angry at her disrespect. Even if we had not found our Luna she was out of line. I am the Alpha. Her Alpha and she is completely disrespecting that. She backs away from us, bowing her head and looking at the floor.
“I’m sorry Alpha, I just don't understand.” She says to me. I shake my head at how pitiful she sounds, but before I am able to answer, My mother comes walking down the hall with Malekai right behind her.
My mother answers for me. “What is there to understand child? As you have been told it is inappropriate for you to even be up here. He is the Alpha. As I understand it, he has finally found his mate as well.” My mother says proudly.
Brynn frowns at my mother and says, pouting again, “It's true then. What people saw out on the grounds yesterday. All the impossible things they are saying happened. That dirty human. She is your Mate.” the word ‘mate’ coming out of her mouth dripping with venom.
Adrian snarls again, this time quite viciously at the sound of this ridiculous she-wolf calling his mate dirty.
My mother fully fed up with Brynn's mouth as well, snaps at her, growling. Speaking pretty forcefully my mother says says, "I suggest you shut your disrespectful mouth now. That is our Luna you're talking about.Your Luna."
I don't have time for this ridiculous crap. Now becoming aggravated, and now visibly angry, I open my mouth, intending to use my Alpha voice on her.
However, I look over at Malekai and without a word he takes control of the situation. “It really is time to leave now Brynn.” Malekai says firmly and points down the hall. “You know where the front door is.” He tells her as he follows her to the stairs.
“I found her yesterday?” I say, asking my mother as I finally open my door. I walk in inviting my her into my quarters.
“Yes my dear, the Dr. informed us you and your mate have been asleep for the better part of eighteen hours. Dr. Baldwin seemed adamant that we leave you to rest. Both of you." She says matter of factly. I knew we had slept for sometime. Our bodies were both exhausted. My mate needed time to heal.
“I assume the flowers are for- well what is our Luna's name Alexander?” My mother asks excitedly, as Mrs Leoni walks in pushing a cart filled with different glass vases of different shapes and colors.
Both my mother and Mrs Leoni set to work adding flowers to vases and placing them everywhere, each of them tidying as they went. Mrs. Leoni mind links her daughter Alearea, and tells her to hurry with the extra clothes.
I turn toward them. “I need you guys to be gentle with her. Mom please, I need you both to listen.” I say. They stop, and turn to face me and giving me me their full attention, as Malekai walks in.
“She doesn't remember anything. Not where she came from, what her name is, how she got here. Nothing. It frightens her that she can’t tell us who she is. Please, treat her carefully for the next few days until she's more comfortable.” I say to them.
I walk over and hug both my mother and Mrs Leoni tightly. “I will be back soon with your Luna.” I say to them, happily.
I can tell my mother wants to talk more about it, but I am out of time. I need to go get my mate. I've left her alone long enough.
MalekaI follows me out and asks if he can walk over to the hospital with me. “Sure, but I need to hurry, dealing with Brynn screwed up my time table. My future is waiting for me and I don't want to keep her waiting.” I say happily.
He smiles at me. “Congratulations man.” Malekai says to me and slaps me lightly on the back. “Really, I’m happy for you. We are happy for you.” He says nodding.
I look at him for a second “We?” I ask him, curious.
“Angie and me. You know, Angie prays to the Moon goddess for you on every full moon bro, asking her to send you a mate. To send us a Luna. Every full moon for nearly eleven years. She's pretty dedicated. Now she will have to find someone else to pray for.” he says and smiles at me.
We walk through the front doors of the hospital and Malekai tells me he will see me later, and maybe bring Angie to meet the Luna. I nod my head and tell him to link me. He gives me a fist bump before he turns going down the opposite hall.
I walk down to my mates room and I reach up my hand to knock and hesitate for a moment. Instead I press my head to the door and listen. I can hear her humming quietly, and I smile. Knowing she is just on the other side of the door makes my heart beat faster.
As I stand here, her scent comes out to me from under the door. I inhale deeply. I can no longer stand the distance between us. I need her, I want to hold her. I knock lightly waiting for her to open the door, waiting for my life to begin.
