Chapter 4 - This Is Strange.

863 Words
In a crowded street, a black young man wearing a black beanie hat could be seen walking hurriedly through the gaps. He also wore a black leather jacket and grey pants. He looked slightly nervous as he repeatedly swept his gaze around as if he was afraid of some unknown thing. His hands were in his jacket's pockets. He then fixed his gaze on a signboard above a certain building. The corner of his mouth curled into an instinctive smile. He walked toward the entrance of the building and stopped in front of it. He raised his head to glance above at the signboard again. "City Jewel dealer" He whispered these words, that were contained on the signboard. He took a deep breath and dragged himself inside the building. As soon as he entered, his gaze collided with a sharp gaze of a bearded man who stood and leaned his shoulder on the wall beside the entrance. The bearded man was grumpy as well as quiet and had his hands folded across his chest. Peter was about to approach the bearded man when he noticed an exquisite desk, 4 feet in his front. The desk looked very similar to a reception desk and there was a bald middle-aged man. Peter anticipated that this was where jewel deals might take place. Thus, he nodded at the bearded man as a greeting and sauntered toward the desk. "Hy, how are you?" Peter greeted the bald middle-aged man casually. "I'm fine, what have you brought me?" The middle-aged man asked not wasting time with nonsense. Peter already had his hands in his pockets. Click! Peter put his ore on the desk as he gendered at the middle-aged man, the jewel dealer with an expectant gaze. Immediately blue rays of light flashed across the room causing everyone in the room to be stupefied. The bearded man near the entrance, poked his head curiously to see the source of the light. The moment the jewel dealer saw the ore he had a drastic change of expression. Not to mention the light it emitted, the ore was heaving up and down alternately just like a heart. He was surprised and scared at the same time. "Breathing ore?" He whispered to himself but Peter was able to hear him clearly. "So it is called breathing ore? I thought it was known as heart ore." Peter said nonchalantly and comically while smiling. However, the jewel dealer didn't smile let alone laugh. He fixedly stared at the ore with no intention to touch it. Fear was written all over his face. Peter noticed this and couldn't help wondering. 'What's the problem with this man? Is this ore very dangerous?' Peter pondered for a while before bending, staring at the jewel dealer, and said out of antsy. "I'm selling this ore. Will you buy it from me?." The jewel dealer became even more scared. He hardly separated his lips that seemed as if each lip weighed 100 lbs. "Wher... where did you get it?" The jewel dealer asked as he fixedly stared at Peter. "I found it my garden" He replied dubiously. "Alright, I can't buy it." The jewel dealer uttered in strict tone, seemingly rather determined. Peter's face darkened abruptly. The sudden denial of the jewel dealer startled him. "You won't buy it? But why? This ore seems to be of much importance than... than... even gold." He said while staring at the jewel dealer with startled eyes. "I can't just buy it. That's all. Scram!" The jewel dealer replied in cold and strict tone. Peter's heart skipped a beat. He had no idea why the jewel dealer was getting colder and colder. Peter was disgusted and angered by his words. The man hadn't only denied to buy the ore but also chased him. However, he was not willing to bicker with the man, instead, he pleaded him. "Sir, why are you doing this? Do you think It is stolen?" Peter asked but in the next, he responded to his own question. "No, it's not stolen. I found it in my garden. Buy it" Peter grumbled. He didn't mind if he was looking ridiculous. He wanted his family to live in a lap of luxury. And that could happen if he was able to sell the mysterious breathing ore. In fact, the man was the only trusted and licensed jewel dealer in the city. Peter was afraid to sell it to some unknown dealers. Thus, he had to convince the jewel dealer since Peter thought the jewel dealer was suspecting him of stealing it. The jewel dealer gritted his teeth and snarled at Peter. "Are you forcing me to buy it? Should I buy the thing I don't want!?" The man was growing angry with Peter's annoying behaviour. It drove him crazy. "It's not like I'm forcing you. I just can't understand why you don't want to buy it?." Peter replied in an extremely sorrowful tone and was timid. Bang! The man slammed his hand on the desk in anger causing the timid Peter to shudder in fear. "Alright, alright. I'll tell you" After saying those words, he hastily grabbed the ore.
