Chapter 18 - Melody

Ace made my head spin. One minute I was worrying about not being as attractive as the only woman who had managed to hold Ace’s attention for more than one night, then the next moment my back was against the wall and Ace was on his knees in front of me. I know he was trying to make a point in front of his ex, but anybody could have seen what he was doing to me. I never should have let it happen, how was I supposed to face his family and friends after that? Ace showed me around the rest of his parents’ house, but I wasn’t listening to most of what he was saying. I was too busy worrying about what other people might think of me if they caught sight of what happened. I was sure there would be gossip about my slutty behaviour all around the town before the evening was over. “What’s wrong? you seem a little distracted.” Ace asked before pulling me into his arms and kissing the top of my head. “I’m sorry.” “You don’t need to apologise Luna. I just want to know what you are thinking.” From the possessive way he was holding onto me, I could tell that there was no way he was letting go of me before I told him what I was worried about. I also knew that nothing I could say would change his mind. “I am just worried what other people will think of me if they saw what we did downstairs,” I replied, biting my lip as my anxiety started to get the better of me. “Nobody will think badly of us for being intimate but if it makes you feel better. Rosie was the only person who saw us together and she is not going to say anything about it. If she did then she would have to justify why she was so interested in what I was doing with my mate, and that isn’t a conversation she is going to want to have with anyone.” He replied. I wasn’t entirely convinced by Ace’s argument but I didn’t want to think about it any longer so I nodded my head in agreement. I expected Ace to drop the issue and continue showing me around his parents’ house, I didn’t expect him to take hold of my face with both of his hands and force me to make eye contact with him. “I know I am not perfect but you are everything to me and I will never let anything bad happen to you. do you understand?” Ace’s words and the intensity with which he looked at me sent shivers down my spine. I wanted to question his sincerity and hold onto some of the anger I had for him a little bit longer but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it any more. He was really trying to make up for his earlier mistakes and I was sick of resisting the way I felt for him. “I do, and I trust you,” I told him before leaning towards him and pressing my lips against his. He responded instantly, deepening our kiss and pulling my body firmly against his. After a few minutes, I reluctantly pulled away from him before he could take the kiss any further. “We should probably continue with this tour before your mom starts wondering where we have gone and sends out a search party,” I suggested, ignoring the way my cheeks were starting to heat up under Ace’s gaze. I had literally only orgasmed a few minutes earlier, how was I still so god damned horny? “As much as I hate to admit it, you are probably right,” Ace said before letting go of me and leading me down one of the many long corridors. I probably didn’t need to worry about them sending a search party. The mansion was huge, even if they were looking for us it would have taken them a long time to find us. From what Ace had told me, the main reason the house was so huge was that Ace’s great-great grandparents had massively extended the house so they could take in all the children who were orphaned after an attack from the same witch coven who had targeted Ace and me. Most of the rooms upstairs were empty now but the pack often used the rooms downstairs for functions and events. “It sounds really nice here, why did you decide to go to college somewhere so far away?” I asked as we went back down the main staircase. “It felt like something I needed to do, and now that I have met you I finally understand why I felt that way.” He pulled my hand up to his lips and kissed it causing some of the people nearby to smile before turning away to gossip about us. It made me feel a little self-conscious to know how many people were watching our every movement but that was nothing compared to the embarrassment I felt when I noticed Ace’s mother walking over to us. She had a tray of drinks in her hands and a huge smile on her face as she approached us. “Do you like your new home?” She asked me as she handed one of the glasses over to me. “Isn’t this your home?” I asked, glancing over at Ace for support. “Not for much longer. The house belongs to whoever is running the pack, so soon the house will pass to you and Ace. We won’t be moving too far away though, our new house is just down the street so we can help with the grandkids whenever you need us.” She told me with more than a small amount of enthusiasm. “Mom, what did I tell you about giving my mate some space,” Ace growled while gripping my waist a little tighter as though he was afraid I was going to run away from him. I had probably given him good reason to feel that way given my behaviour since he realised who I was to him, but I wasn’t going to think about that right now. At that moment I was too concerned about the casual way she spoke about my future with Ace when I hadn’t even gotten the confidence to tell my parents that I was dating someone yet. They weren’t going to understand why I wanted to move in with someone I had only just met, they were going to think that I had lost my mind. It was completely out of character for me to move this quickly, it had taken me six months to classify my ex as being officially my boyfriend. “I know but I can’t help myself. I am just so excited to see my son happy for the first time in years.” She kept the smile on her face as she spoke but there was no hiding the disappointment in her eyes and it made me feel awful. “It’s fine, I am just a little worried about what my family and friends back home are going to think about all this. They haven’t met Ace yet.” “That is easily solved. Once everything has settled down we can visit them. Meanwhile, let me introduce you to some of my friends,” Ace said, placing his hand on my lower back and leading me towards one of the reception rooms. The next few hours passed by in a blur. Ace introduced me to more friends and family members than I could ever hope to remember the names of, and every single one of them seemed about as excited to meet me as his mom was. By the time everyone started filtering out of the party I was completely exhausted but I was very happy. The uncomfortable interaction I had with his ex seemed like nothing more than a distant memory and I was starting to feel a little more confident in my relationship with Ace. We hadn’t had the best start to our relationship but that didn’t mean we were doomed.
