CARING MOMENTWhen Jamie returned to Melbourne, she settled in at home then pulled up outside her mother’s house afterwards. For the past few days, Angelo had been guarding her at night until he could arrange a different police officer to stay overnight. Despite wanting him to focus on his serial killer case, she missed his presence. He made her feel safe. The current investigation was taking him well into the night.
Standing awkwardly outside her mother’s house, she rang the doorbell, and waited at least five minutes before her mother opened the door. She wore a cotton dressing gown over a nightgown. “Jamie, this is a surprise. How are you?” She looked over her shoulder and held the door partially closed. “What is it, darling?”
