Dance with the Bata

"Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in", Jessie, one of Amber's posse, stated, looking at me and my friends with disgust.

"No amount of makeup is going to make you look pretty, your just an ugly b***h. That dress looks like it belongs in an antique store. Honestly, who do you think you're trying to kid?"

Autumn was about to lose her s**t, Lilly and I held her back. It would do us no good if we were to make a scene today of all days.

" Your lucky were in the presence of our Alpha Jessie. Otherwise, I would let Autumn here teach you a valuable lesson. Tread carefully, Amber wont be around to protect you forever." With that holding on to Autumn's arm, so she wouldn't follow through with my threat, we went to the dance floor.

" Let's set the world to rights, ladies, and show these guys what we are made of."

A new track started to play and Autumn, Lilly and I started to sway our hips to the music, forgetting my troubles and enjoying myself with my friends. Just then, I saw Damian heading towards me. This was it. I thought, getting excited, he's going to show all the pack members that I am his, and he is mine. Announcing us as mates at last.

"Can i have this dance?" He asked in his sexy voice that sent goosebumps up and down my body, reaching out his hand for me to take.

"Yes" taking his hand, we walked further onto the dance floor, leaving both my friends with their mouths wide open in disbelief.

Arm in arm we danced, swaying our bodies together to the sound of the music. I never wanted to let him go, everything just felt perfect. I was lost in the feel of his body on mine and all the electric tingles going up and down my body just at his touch really was amazing. My wolf Sasha was happily purring away content in our mate's arms and our bond was getting stronger by the second. All too soon, the music stopped playing. I reached up on tip toes to give him a kiss when he stopped me.

"Not yet my love, you don't want to spoil the surprise, do you?"

"No way, I'm just excited. " I'm ready to tell everyone that you're mine and show my friends and my Mum my mate."

"Soon my love, I promise, I just have to go help Alpha with his speeches, but I will be back to claim you baby, I sware". Kissing my hand, he left me on the dance floor and walked away. I went back to join my friends with the stupidest grin on my face.

Lilly was bouncing up and down excitedly,

" Having fun," I asked.

"We should be asking you that. What just happened? " Is there something you're not telling us!" Autumn said, arching her eyebrows at me.

I couldn't keep the news to myself anymore. I trust Lilly and Autumn with my life.

"Damien's my mate" i blurted out. My friends gaped at me, "How long have you known that Bata Damien is your mate?" Autumn asked me, looking a bit miffed that i hadn't said something sooner.

"Since i turned 18 a month ago" i said sheepishly.

"Oh my f*****g god! You kept that quiet all this time? Why? you always tell us everything."

I could see Autumn was getting upset and I felt horrible. I always told my best friends everything. It was Damien who made me keep quiet.

" I'm sorry Damien thought it's better to wait until tonight. I wanted to tell you guys the minute we found each other. I just didn't want to disappoint my mate."

"I really am sorry, it's been so hard to keep it a secret from you guys."

"It's OK, I get it, but why tonight though? What's so special about it? " It's not like it's your birthday or anything," Autumn said, frowning slightly.

"To be honest, I don't even know why he wanted it to be tonight. He just said he wanted to make it special and surprise everyone and where better than here where everyone is attending."

Scanning the dance floor, I found him. He was dancing with Amber. I know it's her birthday, but does he really have to dance with her? He knows how much we dislike each other. My friends voiced my thoughts, "Why is he dancing with the devil? Something off, mates normally can't keep their hands off each other. Look at Patrick and Sarah. " They've been mates for a week already, and they didn't wait to tell people."

"In fact, Sarah ran around showing everyone she could her mark, and they've been inseparable since. " This just makes no sense to me." Autumn had a point. It's too late now though. What's done is done and I cant go back and change things now even if I wanted to. I had thought it was to claim me in front of everyone and show them all i was no longer someone they could hurt because I have Damien. Now I was starting to feel uneasy. He was still dancing with Amber, and they both looked happy. What's going on?, am i just reading too much into it or is Amber flirting with him, and he's replicating? I was becoming more and more agitated with every second that ticked by. Sasha was ready to go scratch Amber's eyes out for even looking at our man, since "when were you so possessive Sash", I asked her. "When someone touchers what MINE!", she said.

The music suddenly faded and Alpha Franklin and Luna Ava made their way to the stage. Time for the birthday speeches. My nervous excitement from earlier was replaced by fear and anxiety. Something is defiantly wrong. Damien was looking at me, but his smile was different. He was also holding Amber's hand. The room was now deathly quiet, everyone was awaiting Alpha's speech. It felt like an age before he started talking. His speech changed the rest of my life, forever. If only i had known how my day would end.
