Warrior’s Human Mate

Chapter 9

By the time the boys had walked through those doors, looking tired and messy, Rose had already finished her pancakes and her milkshake, she had taken her cup and plate to be washed, much to Lily's disapproval, but she allowed her to wash them herself.

The two then spoke about their time growing up, what it was like. Rose had wished she'd grown up like Lily did. She had studied every mythical creature there was in existence, even the rarely seen ones. Then Lily told her about her life before being Levi's mate, how his wolf, Lupin, was so possessive over her on the full moon that he had begged her to stay with him during it. Only during that did she understand why, Lupin had fallen for the small human and wanted her as much to Levi's disapproval. But he warmed up to the idea. Only did the relationship become serious did they ask Lobo to turn Lily into a werewolf. He could see how much Levi loved her, and how much Lupin craved her. So he agreed, on one condition, that she not break his heart and run off. She explained that someone did that to their mate once. A human turned werewolf ran off after being turned into one. Their mate died because of the loss of their mate. Died of a broken heart.

The two boys panted loudly as they collapsed onto the lounges in unison. They groaned as they lay there.

"I still beat your ass." Sullivan gasped out.

Levi growled "Only because I let you."

"Yeah yeah, you say that everytime."

"Whatever"

The girls' laughter echoed throughout the cafe at the boys' pain. Lily hadn't even started plating up Sullivan's breakfast yet as they walked through the doors. She had to quickly put the eggs and bacon into the microwave to heat up since they had been gone for so long.

As Lily approached them with Sullivan's breakfast, she chuckled "You two were gone for so long, what happened?"

Sullivan then sat up as Lily had placed his breakfast on the coffee table infront of the lounge he laid on. "We did three rounds, best out of three wins." He panted out as he took his roll and started eating.

"I won once!" Levi growled out as Lily handed him a bottle of water.

"You've still got it then Sullivan." Lily chuckled as Rose approached the three and sat across from Sullivan, who looked at her, then back from where she came from, then back to her.

"What did Lily have you do?" He asked suddenly, a slight growl echoing through his throat.

"I didn't do anything, she offered to wash her plate and cup that she had a milkshake in even though I told her not to. She's a stubborn one, that's for sure."

Sullivan's growling stopped as Rose nodded towards him. "She didn't force me to do it, I wanted to, it's how I was raised. I can't help but clean up after myself." She said as she nervously tucked a stray lock of hair behind her hair.

"Fine." He mumbled before he continued to eat his breakfast like he was starving.

Lily chuckled "No need to be so possessive now Sully, she's a big girl."

"I just don't want her being forced to do anything." He grumbled.

"You do understand that if you were to send her to the packhouse to work while your on a shift she would be forced to do things."

"Shifts?" Rose asked.

"It's how I earn money obviously. I do border patrols." Sullivan said as he finished his last bite of his roll.

"Oh. I see. How come you've not been going then?"

"Lobo asked me to join him at the auctions in exchange for my shifts for a week, hence why I haven't been." Sully said "I start again next week." He paused as he noticed Rose's nervous expression. "My shifts are usually at night time, so while your asleep I won't be home, but remember, Harold and Susan are just up the street, you can go with them sometime if you don't feel like being alone.

Lily nodded "And if the oldies bore you, you can always come hang out with us!"

"She doesn't even know where we live anyway," Levi said as he drank his water. "You'll have to come around sometime, show her where we are."

"Yeah I guess." Sullivan said as he started to stretch, "Welp, thank you for the breakfast, we better get going, we have a kitchen to fill with food and this one." He gestured towards Rose with his hand. "Wants the home to feel more homey, so we need to find some descorations."

Lily nodded "Oh how fun, I hope you buy some good stuff to annoy him with." She chuckled as she patted Sullivan on the shoulder before she started to walk back behind the counter.

Levi laughed as he stood up from the lounge and shoved Sullivan's shoulder playfully with his hand. "Have fun Sully." He chuckled and walked away quickly before Sullivan could retaliate.

Sullivan growled as he stood up from the lounge. Rose followed him. As they exited the cafe, the sun almost blinded Rose from the sudden exposure. Inside the cafe it was slightly dim, and outside seemed like it was so bright outside. Rose blinked her eyes as she got used to the brightness. Sullivan tugged her arm in a direction to follow him. If he wanted to, he could of brought her leash, but he insisted on leaving it at home. But he gave her strict instructions to stick with him like glue.

As they continued down the path, a large grocery store appeared. It was similar to the ones Rose had gone to with her parents. But instead of an Apple as a logo, it had a giant green Paw.

"Now uh," Sullivan stopped before he turned to Rose, "I have two friends who work here, and they are a little bit over the top. Try not to entertain them much, okay?" He paused "And they are different than most wolves in this pack."

Rose nodded, and relieved Sullivan as they walked into the store, the sliding doors opening for them. It was the exact same layout as the ones back home, first thing you saw was fresh fruit and veggies, followed by baked goods. Then you have the deli section, seafood and slices of meat for sandwiches. Following that was the meat section, with lots of cuts of meat from any animal.

Rose shivered as she noticed human meat in the 'specials section' of the aisle. "D-Do you..?"

"No I do not," Sullivan cut her off and took her away from that section. "Some do, but not me. They are sick, is what they are. We're part human too." He growled as they stood in front of the other meat, "I'm not sure why Lobo hasn't banned it. You didn't need to see that, I'm sorry." He said as he picked up some t-bone steaks and placed them in their cart that was filled with different fruit and veggies, alongside some bread.

As they walked down the first aisle, it had breakfast cereals on one side and savory snacks and sweet snacks on the other. Sullivan allowed Rose to pick whatever she wanted. So, she grabbed corn flakes, milo cereal, weatbix and coco puffs. Sullivan shrugged as he placed some nutri-grain in the cart next to hers. Rose grinned at him as it seemed he was trying to put in effort, she could tell that he wanted to smile but there was something stopping him. She grabbed some oreos and some cookies before she approached the end of the aisle which had boxes of Shapes.

"What's your favorite flavor, Sullivan?" Rose asked as she looked at all the options.

"Uh, chicken crimpy mostly."

Rose then looked at him with a smile. "Me too!"

"I knew I smelt you!"

A sudden excited, happy voice exploded behind Rose, who jumped at the sudden loud noise. As she turned, she saw a man. Light skin tone with short dark black hair and brown eyes.

"Easy Oscar, you scared Rose!" Sullivan growled as the man, who apparently was called Oscar, approached them.

Oscar laughed loudly as he went up to Sullivan and attempted to hug him. As he wrapped his arms around him, Sullivan froze, he didn't move, his arms stayed beside his sides. Sullivan let out a low growl.

Oscar then let him go before awkwardly patting both his arms. "Yeah, forgot you aren't a hugger." He said awkwardly.

"No, I am not." Sullivan growled.

Oscar stepped back. "Apologizes dude, you just haven't been in here for a while now." He chuckled awkwardly, "I can see why now.." He then looked back at Rose with a grin "You've got a human now, and by their law, they need a room to themselves with a bed." He laughed "Which means, you've moved!" Oscar exclaimed as he looked back at Sully, "So looks like I'll be seeing you more often. Means no more two minute noodles for you bud! A home-cooked meal every day! Sounds like heaven! Wish Luke did that for me every day." He sighed dramatically, "So, you gonna introduce me to your new housemate?"

Sullivan growled lightly "This is Rose." He said, "The Alpha invited me to the auction this month. I couldn't say no, so I went with him. To my surprise, Lobo bought her, and gifted her to me." He paused. "As much as I was against it, Lobo persuaded me, so, yesterday we moved and now we're grocery shopping."

Oscar grinned as he shook Rose's hand. "She's beautiful for a human."

"Paws off! You have a husband for Selene's sake!" Sullivan growled.

Oscar laughed as Rose chuckled, "I see how this is, your possession of her."

"She is my property after all."

Rose stilled at those words, she then looked down at her feet, the feeling of her collar digging into her skin. She thought Sullivan didn't think of her as just his property, but maybe as a friend. Then again, she was bought by his Alpha and given to him, so yes, she was his property.

"Who's whose property?"

A different voice from behind Rose caught her attention, she raised her head to see another man beside her. This time, he had dark skin, a short buzz cut and brown eyes darker than his skin. He was wearing a dark green shirt and black pants with a grey apron with a rainbow flag pin pinned on the side.

"Sullivan!" He exclaimed, "Man, I thought I could smell you here."

"Don't hug him" Oscar said as a warning.

The man laughed "I know not to, love! He hates hugging."

"Well, I forgot! I felt like I was gonna have my head ripped off!" Oscar exclaimed as the strange man walked over to him and shoved him on the shoulder playfully.

Sullivan then turned to Rose. "These are the two I warned you about before we entered here. The one who hugged me is Oscar and his husband is Luke."

Rose nodded at him as she smiled as the two interacted with each other. They were clearly deeply in love with each other. Sullivan rolled his eyes as the two exchanged a kiss.

"You gonna keep us here or are you gonna let us go?" Sullivan asked sarcasticly.

Luke looked at him with a grin. "Yeah mate, you can continue on, we'll catch up another time, yeah?" He looked towards Rose, he then glanced at the pendant attached to her neck. "Nice to meet you, Rose."

Rose smiled and nodded towards him as Sullivan started to move the cart along. She followed him out the aisle and they started to walk down another aisle which had tea, coffee, biscuits, cake mixes and pre-made morning or afternoon tea snacks like small cake bars.

"Do you drink coffee?" Sullivan asked Rose as he stopped in front of the coffee.

Rose shook her head. "Not really, I'm more of a tea and hot chocolate person."

Sullivan then reached for a jar of coffee. "Good, doesn't mean I have to share."

"Good to know!" Rose laughed as she grabbed some hot chocolate.

Sullivan then turned to look towards the other side of the aisle, which had cake, cookie and brownie mixers with sprinkles and all types of decorating things, "You like to bake?"

Rose nodded "Kinda, if we run out of cookies, I don't mind making some." She said as she looked at the different types.

"Alright, what kind?"

"Let's grab the choc chip one, can't go wrong with that."

He grabbed a box of choc chip cookie mix and placed it in the cart. They continued down the aisles together, grabbing things that they wanted and placing them in the cart which was now halfway full by the time they were halfway through the freezer section. Which was Sullivan's specialty, sure his friends thought he ate two minute noodles all the time, but, the truth was, he lived on frozen meals most of the time. All he had to do was follow the instructions, put it in the microwave, wait for it to cool down and boom, you had yourself dinner. He had gone through almost all the frozen meals that the stores provided the time he had them, he had tried every single one of them, some he despised and some he loved. The two grabbed some incase there was ever a time they didn't feel like cooking.

"How are we gonna get this stuff home?" Rose asked as they began to make their way towards the checkouts.

Sullivan chuckled "They have delivery wolves, which carry the bags for us, one can carry up to three of them."

"Oh," Rose said as they made their way to a check out and started to unload their stuff on the conveyer belt, "How can they do that?"

"With their mouths," Rose opened her mouth to ask before Sullivan stopped her. "They shift into their wolves and carry the bags with their mouths, they follow us home and leave the bags in our kitchen for us." He said as he continued to load their stuff on the conveyer belt. "Don't worry, it doesn't hurt them and they get paid."

Rose nodded "Have you done it before then? Since you know so much."

"When I was a teenager, yes, I did. I was a delivery wolf." He chuckled deeply.

Rose chuckled with him. "Was it good?"

"Yeah, it was alright I guess, you get to exercise and get paid, so it's a win-win situation I guess."

By the time that they had finished loading up their stuff and got it bagged, it was well over five bags worth of stuff, when the cashier asked why so much, Sullivan had sheepishly explained that they had just moved into a new home and needed to fill the kitchen. The cashier nodded at the explanation and wished them well, when he rang up the total, Rose's eyes widened at the price, but Sullivan shrugged and paid for it with ease.

"Please let me help you pay that off! Half of it is mine!" Rose exclaimed.

"And one half is mine, so we're even." He chuckled but Rose's expression didn't falter. "Hey, the price means nothing to me, but if it bothers you so much, I guess you can help pay for your half as well. You could work with Lily or something. She doesn't mind extra help as long as you explain why."

Rose nodded. "Yeah, I like the sound of that."

The cashier then rang up to get some delivery wolves, which were there in about five minutes, already in wolf form trotting towards them. Rose apologized quietly as she handed one of the wolves a bag. It was a big gray one with yellow eyes, whose head tilted to the side as she apologized before it took the bag and then understood why she apologized. The bag was heavy. The wolf whined lightly at the weight, which made Rose wince, but Sullivan chuckled.

"He's fine, just complaining."

That made the gray wolf's eyes shift to the side as it side-eyed him, which made Rose laugh.

Sullivan chuckled lightly as he handed the two other wolves a bag each. "I'll carry these two." He said to them as they looked at him with confusion, since only three had been summoned for this delivery. But they understood as Sullivan picked up the bags and began to lead the way home.
