"Mom, you can't be serious," I said looking at my phone.
"What," my mom answered acting as if she didn't know how wrong this was. "It's one date, it won't kill any of you girls to meet someone new."
"It's one thing dragging me into this thing but not Rory and Shay too," I said.
"They will be okay," my mom smiled. "It's one date with three very handsome men."
"Why have I never met your friend or her sons," I questioned.
"Oh, well, you have your own life dear,"
"That's not an answer," I looked at my phone again. I have pulled away from my set writing session because my mom said it was important. To my surprise, it wasn't and I was now wasting more time trying to convince her to cancel this blind date. How am I going to explain it to the girls?
"Mom," I whined.
"It's happening Maggie," she said sternly.
"Okay, fine," I said. I grabbed my bag and ran out of the house. I had twenty minutes to get to my editor's office and no not to talk to her or turn in some pages but to bump into Andrew. Andrew was a tall and cute guy that I did all I could to be near. My phone buzzed in my pocket.
-How did it go with your guy- Shay
-On my way- Maggie
-I thought you would have camped out there- Shay
-HA HA FUNNY- Maggie
-Luv ya-
-mmhmm love you too- Maggie
I put my phone back in my pocket and ran from the parking lot straight into the building. I looked around and his office door was still closed. He rented out an office in the same building so that's how I knew he would be here and when.
"Damn it," I cursed.
"Did you forget something, M," I heard Drew's sweet voice say.
"Oh, no, I mean yeah kinda," I said a bit flustered.
"Want me to help you look for it," he said kindly.
"Oh, no, you're a busy guy, and I can find it myself," I said. I tried to smile but I didn't want to smile that much.
"Okay, see you around, Maggie," goodness I love how that man says my name. I watched him walk away and can I dare say he has a nice backside. I immediately called the girls.
"WHY CAN'T I ASK THAT MAN OUT!"
"Cause your more chicken than the orange chicken I want to eat later today," Shay said.
"HA, HA," I said to her.
"Leave her alone, he should ask her out," Rory said.
"This isn't a rom-com Rory if she wants him she should go for it and ask him out," Shay said.
"Maybe Shay is right, I should just go for it," I said.
"Okay so, go," Shay replied.
"Oh, I can't" I remember about the blind date and how I still had to tell them. "I can't do it right now but I will soon. Hey guys can we hang out later."
"Yeah," they both answered.
"What's up," Shay questioned.
"Nothing, just have some news," I said. "From my mom." They both lit up at that but I knew it would be short-lived.
"CHINESE?" Rory said.
"Yeah, I'll order the food," I said to her.
"I'll bring the ice cream," Rory said cheerfully.
"Cool," Shay hung up first and then Rory.
"I hope they don't hate me," I sighed. I went to a local cafe and tried to write. I don't know why I was having so much writer's block. I wrote 3 books in under 3 years. I wrote my fourth just last year and it was another hit. Right now, I can't think of an angle or a premise. I was sitting here looking at my white screen. Writing a few words and then deleting them. I can't think of anything to write. I don't need to settle down, I think I need a wild night out. I haven't had a s****l encounter in a month. When I get into a writing mode I kind of shut everything else off. Maybe this date might be a good thing. I mean I don't know how good my mom is at setting people up but she knows me so maybe she will actually do a good job.
I sat there for another hour and when I barely wrote 200 words I decided to call it quits and go home. My phone buzzed as I parked my car on the street in front of my place.
-Hey, you seemed out of it today- Andrew
-Oh, no I am good-
I was so shocked to see a text from Andrew.
-oh ok good- Andrew
-maybe we can hang out sometime. Like the good old day-Andrew
-Yeah sure- Maggie
-okay, cool. Call me whenever-Andrew
I was so excited but also nervous. I had to call him and set it up. I covered my face with my hands in frustration.
"I LOVE YOU DREW!" I shouted in my car. I got out of my car and went inside to order tons of food so it could be here by the time the girls got here. I opened up my laptop again since the girls still haven't arrived. I was just writing. No real purpose but the words were flowing out of me so I went with it.
"Hello," Shay shouted as she came in.
"Hey in here," I shouted from my room.
"I thought your writing session was this morning," Shay said a bit annoyed. I set up writing sessions so I can be in the zone and unbothered but also so it doesn't take over my life and I can unplug, live my life, and have fun.
"I'm done, I'm done," I said as I wrote down the last few words and put my laptop away.
"Good," Shay said.
"Where's Rory," Shay asked.
"Not sure," suddenly we heard the doorbell ring like crazy.
"Oh, pizza, and Rory," Shay said. "SHOOO PIZZA BOY."
"OMG, THANK YOU," Rory exhaled. "That guy was hitting on me and I thought I how do I say Hell No, politely"
And so we began our girls night, hang out. Where I would tell them about the setup.
