Elena's POV:

My hands were shaking so bad that it took me five minutes to start my scooty. This is the award I get for helping someone? It's so unfair.

My heart was still beating fast when I reached home. I had never seen a real gun all my life let alone got threatened with it.

As I entered my home, the clattering of dishes from the kitchen got my attention. Mum. My heart relaxed a little. She must be making food.

"Hi mum."

She turned around and smiled at me. My heart relaxed fully. "Hello, darling. Go freshen up, I made some delicious food and donuts for you."

I went to her placed a kiss on her cheek and went to my room to change.

"You don't want something to happen to your family right?"

My smile fell and a heaviness settled in my chest. I don't know what to do and I don't have any contact with someone powerful who can help. My brother told me he was going to a foreign country because of some work related thing and won't be back for weeks or worse months.

Instinctively, I touched the necklace he gave me before his departure as a token of love. I cannot tell my mother about this problem because she will become so worried that she'll get sick. Elena, you have to deal with this yourself. It's okay, you don't have the USB and you just wanted to help.

It was after dinner when my mum and I sat down to talk. God, I missed her so much. She told me that she will stay with me until my brother, Derrick returns.

We chatted a little while having a cup of green tea which my mother loves. I told her that I have to go to work early, tomorrow morning so she would not get worried when she wakes up.

She also informed me that my little sister, Chloe, will be visiting us tomorrow. I was extremely relieved because if some people will be around me then only will I be able to stop my mind from tomorrow and the horrific possible outcomes of it.

It was around six thirty when I left my house. And around six fifty five when I reached the 'Knight Industries'. Yesterday, I also searched about this Mr Knight. His full name is Keith Knight. The rest of the web told about his achievements and that he is the most sought after bachelor..blah blah blah.

But I know there is a backstory too. That mansion in the middle of nowhere, his accident on that isolated road, how easily he carries a gun as if it is his tissue, those men… and much more that I am not aware of.

Hailey was missing at the reception so I directly made my way to the elevator. My heart started racing as I reached his door and knocked softly, so softly that I was myself was unable to hear it. This felt like deja vu. I knocked again this time a little loudly.

"Come in." The first thing I noticed as I entered was the arrogant smirk on his face. He lifted his sleeve and took a look at his expensive as hell watch.

"Six fifty-nine. Good girl."

My fist clenched at my side because of his remark. Should have left him to die.

"What do you want? I don't want to work…" I started.

"Hm. Let's see, I want the USB. And secondly if you don't work here, you'll not be able to work anywhere." He cut me off and proceeded to warn me. A dangerous glint in his eyes.

" I don't have your God damn USB!" I shouted. My anger getting the best of me.

"Tsk. Tsk. Lower your voice before I do it myself. And we'll find out whether you have it or not. Now go make me black coffee."

Exactly how will he find that out?

Resisting the urge to stomp my feet, I went to grab the jerk's coffee.

I applied for the position of senior architect not for a personal assistant. I grabbed the coffee and made my way to his office. After knocking, I stepped inside and froze.

Oh s**t, the same man who ordered my description from the doctor. He had a scar running down his cheek which I was not able to see at night. Why do all of them look like they will bury you alive?

My eyes considerably widened but immediately after I tried to keep my expression neutral. I slowly made my way to his desk and placed the coffee. The soccer was shaking a little in my hands.

Why are they both looking at me like that? Bruh. I want to evaporate from here.

"Meet Caleb. The COO of this company. Caleb meet my new employee." The COO or your partner in crime? Nevertheless, I greeted him. Caleb gave a single nod in acknowledgment.

My hands were becoming more sweaty as every second ticked by. I asked him to excuse me which he thankfully did by waving his hand dismissively.

"What did you do to her? You looked at her? She looked so frightened…"

I heard Caleb's voice as I rushed towards the washroom. And here I thought my expression was as neutral as it can be. I wasn't able to hear the rest of the conversation as i closed the bathroom door so that i can peacefully make myself more presentable and not someone who will faint any second.

It was after I came out of the washroom that I met Hailey who was ordered to show me my cabin. The cabin was spotless and beautiful although a little too formal for my taste but I didn't dare to make any demands because I was in no position to do so.

For the next two hours or so no one disturbed me and I was emailed the work I had to do. As soon as i typed the last letter my phone started ringing.

Mum Calling.

I picked it up, "Hey mu…". She cut me off and the next words she spoke made my heart stop.

"Elena, some men have forcefully entered the house and they look like they are searching for something. Please come quickly. Chloe is with me too."
