Marcus's face froze. "I don't need your reminders."
Kelsey tugged at the corners of her mouth and said nothing more. "I'll leave then."
With that, she turned and walked away, her steps steady.
But once she reached an empty corridor, she couldn't hold back her emotions. She looked up at the ceiling and blinked hard, forcing back the tears that threatened to spill.
Though her identity and pregnancy were fake, hearing about Marcus's engagement to someone else still felt like a sharp stab to the heart.
Marcus stood rooted to the spot. His hand clenched tightly by his side.
He swallowed hard and called out, "Wait."
Kelsey halted, her lashes fluttering.
