Chapter 16: Mutated Zombie

Soon enough, the couple had turned into zombies.
Luke casually broke both their feet and arm to prevent them from doing any harm to him.
Seeing the two struggle on the ground, unable to stand or drag themselves, Luke muttered.
"So it's indeed possible to turn people into zombies if they eat the hearts as well. But it doesn't seem to change them into special zombies."
Luke then turned to Lucy who was busy harvesting the brain and the hearts of those Luke shot earlier.
"Take these two with us. Don't kill them."
"Understood."
Lucy nodded and started to drag the two with her as she followed behind Luke.
When the two of them returned to the bank, they saw a few heaps of gold bars and an exhausted Nicole.
Nicole noticed their arrival and asked.
"Where have you guys been?"
"Doing an experiment."
"I-I see..."
Nicole saw the two zombies being dragged by Lucy and nervously swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
Just what kind of experiment did this guy do now...? No, I don't wanna know!
Nicole coughed a few times and spoke again.
"Ahem, anyway. I've gotten the gold out from underground...what now? These things are pretty heavy. How are we going to get them back to the base?"
"Easy. We just need to hire others to carry it for us."
"H-hire?"
Nicole was confused.
In this era of the apocalypse...where on earth are they supposed to hire people to help them carry gold!? Gold which is now completely useless!
Luke ignored her and turned to Lucy.
Seeing his gaze, Lucy nodded, seemingly understanding what he wanted to do.
Actually, this was also a sort of test for Lucy.
Luke wanted to know if she knew what he wanted her to do based on her previous experience.
Sure enough, Lucy did remember as she pulled out a lot of chains from her bag with collars attached on the ends.
Afterward, Lucy went out of the building and started to look for zombies.
Nicole was still confused as to what was happening and couldn't help but ask.
"Umm...what is she doing right now?"
"Just wait."
"R-right..."
Nicole pouted and cursed at Luke in her mind as she doesn't dare say it out loud.
After a while, Lucy returned while tugging the chains behind her.
Nicole turned to look what was behind her and saw...a zombie horde!
Well, not as much as a horde but there were still about a dozen zombies trailing from behind Lucy! All of which are collared and chained!
"This..."
"This was how I carried you all back with me by the way. You were all strapped in the back of a zombie on the way back."
"..."
Nicole's face paled as she heard that.
Luckily she was unconscious back then. If not...
Just the thought of it scared her.
And like that, Luke made all those zombies carry gold with them as Lucy pulled them along back to the base.
On the way back, Nicole would look back several times, wondering if one of the chained zombies would suddenly break free and attack her.
Meanwhile, Luke was yawning as he walked back to the base.
"Tsk, when are we going to encounter a mutated zombie?"
"P-please don't jinx it!"
Nicole answered back with a teary look on her face.
Her heart already can't handle being followed by a dozen zombies behind her, yet this guy still wants to meet a mutated zombie!?
You're the mutated zombie! Your whole family are mutated zombies!
However, who knows whether a higher being has answered his prayers or not...Luke had finally met a mutated zombie that he didn't create for the first time.
In front of them was a large hulking figure.
It was about twice the size of a normal man and its muscles were bulging with power!
What's more, it even knew how to speak!
"Human! Eat! Flesh!!!"
"Interesting."
Luke merely raised a brow and showed a slight smile.
As for Nicole, she had quickly hidden behind a damaged car on the street.
The large mutated zombie charged at them with all its power.
Lucy was about to counterattack to defend her master but Luke stopped her.
"Let me. I want to know how strong my body is compared to this guy."
Lucy hesitated for a moment before nodding and remained to hold the chains of the zombies behind them.
Seeing the incoming large fist in front of him, Luke wasn't stupid enough to match that fist with his own. This isn't some hot-blooded shounen manga after all.
If it was possible to dodge, then he should dodge instead.
Luke stepped to the side and dodged the attack.
At the same time, his hand moved quickly, performing a chop as he slashed it to the mutated zombie's throat in a flash.
"Ack-!?"
"You look strong. But you're response time is slow."
Luke then lifted his leg and kicked on the mutated zombie's leg.
"Grrr!!!"
The mutated zombie growled but his leg remained fine.
"Hm, your body durability is indeed impressive. In that case, how about this."
The zombie attempted to punch at Luke again but Luke dodge it with ease.
Right after dodging, he countered by punching the zombie on its chest.
Luke felt a few bones crack but as a zombie, it didn't feel pain at all and only staggered for a bit before attacking again.
Luke dodged again and countered. Dodge and counter, and again and again...
Although it looked like a heated match, It was completely one-sided as Luke overwhelmed the zombie. He wasn't even hit once at all!
Luke sighed and shook his head.
"Enough. This is getting redundant."
Luke then grabbed his knife and directly beheaded it without any hesitation.
He turned to Nicole and spoke.
"Take it back with us. I need to study it."
"E-eh? Me?"
"Who else is there? Just do as you are told or die."
"U-understood..."
Nicole quickly nodded and came forward to drag the huge body with her.
Despite her enhanced strength, it was still quite hard to pull this huge body with her. But it wasn't impossible as well.
Although slow, they still managed to return to the base before the day ended.
"W-welcome...back..."
Mily greeted them with a smile at first but then noticed the dozen zombies following behind as well as the large body of a mutated zombie.
Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and...she fainted."
Luke was a bit speechless.
"...After everything, 'this' was the one that made her faint?"
Mily had seen him before pull zombies back with him. She had also seen him perform his experiments and she was still fine back then. But just seeing this large mutated zombie...made her faint?
Luke shook his head and stopped thinking about it. It was simply a waste of brain cells.
While Nicole went to drag the unconscious Mily back to their room, Luke killed the zombies to extract their heart and brains.
He gave the zombie couple six brains each to eat while Lucy went to store the zombie bodies in a special room in case they will be of use in the future.
After eating the brains, the zombie couple appeared a bit smarter now and no longer acting up a lot.
Luke tossed the two of them in a room and left them there to observe.
"Athena. Let me know if they start to do something."
"Yes sir."
"Also, stop teaching Lucy useless stuff!"
"..."
Luke sighed and went to his room.
Meanwhile, Lucy went back to the Library.
"Sister Athena, what should we watch next?"
"Ohh, how about this one! This one is definitely useful!"
It was another anime so it definitely isn't useful at all...it seems that Athena has found a loophole in Luke's order.
Because she herself thinks that it was useful, then she can teach it to Lucy.
However, Luke's definition of useful was definitely different from her definition of useful...
Luckily, Luke was too busy studying the large mutated zombie corpse and couldn't be bothered with micromanaging Lucy.
