Aaron
"Love is facing the unknown...together!"
I lay back on my bed. Smiling. It sure felt good to be smiling a lot more these days. I had a lot to smile about. I hear my phone go off. I was sure I had a dozen emails to answer. Or phone calls. I always woke to that going on. That was nothing new to my life.
Being a business tycoon. After I managed to get this new product going and sold I think I want to retire. I had plenty. If Brenda would agree to marry me, then I would retire young. I was going to keep on working. Without Brenda in my life I had saw no reason to not keep working. You see work was the only thing I had going in my life.
But I had Brenda. She had me.
I roll over in bed. I grab my phone. Charles was trying to get a hold of me. Maybe he had some good news to tell me about what was going on back in Washington. One could hope. Instead of checking his voicemail I call him back. He answers near the third ring.

"Charles?" I answer. "What is new?"
"Kerrigan" he sighs. "She is not letting up. We know you are busy back home. We need you here. Now. They upped the trial. It is sooner. That is a good thing though. We can get rid of Kerrigan. We just need you here as soon as you can" he informs me.
"Things are going so well for me here at home. Are you sure you cannot manage without me?" I worry over Brenda inside.
"I am sure we can't. How soon can you be back?" he demands to know.
"Well, I guess I will leave this morning" I sigh.
"Then after the trial you can head back home" he reminds me.
"Maybe" I grumble.
"Let me know as soon as you get back" he demands.
"I will, I will" I promise as we hang up.

I try to call Brenda's cell phone, but I got no answer. Then I try to call over at the bakery.
"Aaron?" answers Sailor.
"Hey where is Brenda?" I ask her.
"She had to make a delivery" she tells me.
"Damn, I have to leave town. I needed to tell her I will be back" I sigh.
"I can leave her a message" Sailor offers.
"I really need to tell her in person. But I managed to book a flight out right now" I grumble as I get an email from Charles. He booked my flight back home.
"What? You are leaving town?" wonders Sailor.
"Not that I want to. I have to. For my business" I try to explain. "I have to go. Please tell Brenda. I will tell her everything. I will call her as soon as I can"
"I will let her know" says Sailor before we hang up.
I felt an unsettling feeling inside at the way I was having to leave Brenda without telling her that I was going back to Washington without her. I shake it off. I pack a small bag.
Then I call a taxi cab. Then head off to the airport. I only hoped Brenda would not hate me for taking off. That she would understand why I had to go. We just got together. Fate would not be as cruel as to tare us apart so soon would it?
I try to call one more time before I, board my flight. Again, no answer from Brenda. I text her leaving a brief explanation. Then I head on the plane. I lean back in my seat. Praying for understanding.
Kerrigan had caused so much harm in my life. I only worried she was going to somehow harm my relationship I had now with Brenda. I was not about to let that happen. I felt uneasy on the whole flight.
When I got there at the other airport landing back in Washington was Charles. He was there to pick me up. He shook my hand. Then lead me out of there. We went back to my office. I did not have any time to check my phone to see if Brenda responded back to me. That was all I wanted to do. I was starting to feel so stressed out. Suddenly we get a call from Kerrigan there in the office.

"What is it that you want?" Charles demands as we have her on speaker phone.
"I want a private meeting with Mr. Winters" she demands. Charles looks over at me.
"You will. There in the courtroom" argues Charles on my behalf.
"No, I want a meeting before that" she snaps. "Alone"
Charles looks at me. He goes to argue. I hold my hand up for Charles to be quiet.
"I will meet with you" I agree. "where and when"
"Do you think that is such a good idea?" whispers Charles to me.
"Fine. Meet me at the Starbucks right by your office. In an hour" she demands. "Come alone" she warns me.
"Alright. I will be there" I promise. She hangs up on me.
"Aaron can I tell you something?" Charles asks me.
"What?" I mutter.
"I am having a bad feeling about this" he tells me. "Meeting alone?"
"I know. But I can handle her" I tell him.
"Can you really Aaron? Look at all the hell she has already put you through" points out Charles.
"I will make sure this is all over once and for all" I promise him.
Suddenly I get a message from Brenda. Asking why I left without telling her. She was pretty upset. Just great. I had to get this day over with, so I can go back home. With Brenda. Where I belong.
