Healing the Alpha

4. Alpha Alex's POV

Well, telling my family and pack was easier than I thought it would be. They all realized that, even if they had questions, at this point I did not have them all. I feel relief about getting that out there, and now I have to take back over the pack. Thankfully, my Dad and Beta have stepped in so seamlessly to let me mope and process.

I mind linked my Dad and Beta to come to my office so that we can go over everything that has happened since the ball. When I entered the office, they were both already sitting there waiting for me like they knew this was going to happen.

“Hey Dad, Ben. I just want to start off by saying thank you for jumping in without me even having to ask you. I know that I kind of just became a hermit, but I am thankful that I can rely on you guys to always jump in without missing a beat.”

“Son, you know that we are always here to support you. Also, none of us have been through a rejection, let alone one after a 5 year mating period. So I am glad to see that it only took you a little over a week and now we can get back to somewhat of a normalcy.”

“Alex, you have been my best friend for as long as I can remember, if you ever thought for a second I wouldn’t support you like you have always supported me. I am truly hurt.” We all have a light-hearted laugh because we know Ben is serious.

“Alright, so anything that is pressing that needs to be taken care of?” My dad is always quick to jump in.

“As far as the pack goes, nothing is pertinent. I think everyone is just on edge of knowing what the future looks like without a Luna. Of course, your mom and I will definitely be here to help and support when needed. But aside from that, our pack is still running and everyone has understood what is going on.” That’s a relief because I truly don’t know if I could handle any more drama yet.

“The only outside pack event that we have coming up is the one for the twins from Midnight pack. They will both graduate and turn 18 and we have been invited.” I forgot that was coming up. I don’t know if another event like that will be something I can handle so soon, but at the same time it may be nice to get out of our pack for a fresh sight.

“Son, you know if you aren’t ready, that your mom and I can go and take Ben with us. With all that has gone on, it would be understandable if you weren’t ready, plus the current Luna is family to the Beta family, so they will all go, I am sure.” I know my dad is trying to protect me, but at the same time I am the Alpha, and it would be cruel to not go. Especially since we have an alliance with them.

“I think I will go. It may be nice to get out and see others, as well as a chance to talk with their current Alpha and Luna as well as the soon to be Alpha, knowing that we have an alliance. Would you and mom still want to go, or would you like to stay back?”

“Well, it is Saturday now, and they aren’t expecting you to be there until this Saturday. So that will give you seven days, and with all that has happened, I think your mom and I will stay back with Gamma Bastian and Delta Jake.” That is a relief because I know my dad will not let anything crazy happen while we are away.

“I appreciate that. Now, Ben, there is going to be a lot that we need to ensure is taken care of before we head out. We also need to meet with Bastian and Jake to make sure they know what needs to be done, but also that Dad will be in charge, so no funny business.” We both laugh knowing that those two love to create trouble when Ben and I are gone.

“Son, I’ll let the two of you get down to business and I will go and tell your mom the plan.” Maybe this week they can actually take a breather since they have been covering for me this past week.

Ben and I both say goodbye and my father leaves. I can see Ben has a sudden change of relief and I can tell something is going on in his head.

“Alright Bro, spill it. What are you holding back?” He looks stunned but quickly recovers.

“Honestly, your dad is just always to the point and stresses me out.” I can tell he is lying to me. My wolf stirs in my mind and finally speaks

“Hey Al, I think he wants to tell you something, but maybe because of everything you have been through he is not sure if you can handle it.”

“Calvin, you may be right, but he will need to tell me so that maybe we can handle it.” I am trying to think of a way for him to know that I am okay and here for him.

“You may just have to force it out of him, or maybe threaten to.” I hate using the Alpha command, but I think I hate my friend and Beta keeping something from me even more. I can tell Calvin is going to stick around because he is also curious.

“Benson, you know that I know you are lying, right?” I can see him realize that I can still read him like a book. “I know that you are all going to want to walk around on egg shells around me, but if something is up you can tell me.”

“But Lex, you have been through so much and this is something I don’t think you would want to hear about.” And now I know that he wants to talk about mates, and I don’t want to talk about it, but I also want to be here for my friend.

“Look, I know that what I have gone through is crazy enough for all of us, but you can still talk to me about mates and everything along those lines. I promise that I wont go all Alpha on you if that helps.” We both laugh and I can tell that he has visibly relaxed. So maybe he was just tense on what I might do.

“Okay, well at the ball right before I felt the pain from your rejection” I winced and I could see on his face that he was sorry he had brought that up. I waved him off so that he would continue. “I felt like my mate was there. But, of course, I was drunk and talking with another girl, so I wasn’t sure. And then I felt the pain in my chest and heard your howl and I knew I needed to focus and be there for you.” I have so many thoughts and questions going on in my head but I also need to hear this out.

“Okay, so a few questions. Why wouldn’t you have thought about finding her if you thought she was there? Why would you continue talking to some girl?” I can tell he wants to interject, but I hold up my hand to prevent that. “And second of all, when the Alpha is in pain, normally it is just a headache and the pull to protect him, so if the pain was in your chest then that, usually means that your mate is with someone else.” I can see the hurt and the anger cross his face, and before he goes into a rage with his wolf I know I need to get him calm again.

“Ben, take a deep breath, you don’t even know who she is and you have not been a saint yourself, so take a deep breath so we can talk this out please.” I can see him taking a breath and talking to his wolf so that he can take back control.

“Alright Lex, so first I was drunk and didn’t truly know, but right before I came to you, my wolf was telling me he thought our mate was near. And maybe she was with someone else, but she is still my mate.” This kid, he always thinks about being a player, and now he is solely thinking about a girl he hasn’t yet met. I have my hands full with this one.

“Right, well, maybe since all 3 packs were at the ball, maybe since all of us are going to the graduation celebration for the twins, she might be there. I would suggest that you stay sober and stop with all the girls until then. If you were hurt, you would not want to put her through the same pain.”

“You’re right, let's just plan for what needs to happen here while we are gone and get this week over so that we can plan for this weekend. We are staying for four days, right?”

“Yeah, that way your family can reconnect with Luna Amelia and her family and we can take a breather for a bit.” That honestly sounds like some much needed relaxation.

“Alright, well, let's go to training and then we can come back here and game plan.”

“Sounds good Ben, ready to lose during sparring now that I am back?” He has never won against me, and training without me this week I am sure it has gone to his head.

“Bring on your worst, you know I haven’t been taking a break all week.” We both laughed and headed out to the training field. This workout is going to kick my ass from this past week.
