Chapter 3: The Tree When we left the restaurant Barrett told me to follow him. “I have to show you the tree,” he answered vaguely when I asked where we were going. Before I could question him further, he walked away and I was left to hurriedly jump in my car and follow him out of the parking lot. Barrett drove faster than was necessary considering he knew I was behind him. When he stopped suddenly a few miles later, I almost hit him from behind. A part of me wanted to hit him, knock him off the ledge of his high castle, and break his walls down. Instead, I only shook my head and got out of the car.
