A Quiet Night

1242 Words
Sophie's POV We hung out until about midnight, watching movies, sipping wine, and chatting about nothing at all. I could tell that the other girls were lonely and missed living in a larger group. To be honest I knew I would be soon. An Omega always want to be at home, to be comfortable and to make a home comfortable for others. We can be adventurous, strong, brave, and so many other things, but we rarely end up living a life where we at least don't have a home base to return to. You can think of us as aggressively loving those around us and no-one would call an Omega weak if they have ever tried to harm someone they loved.  Spending time with the girls was nice, but it also made me miss my own family and even my Alphas. As much as I liked my new life, I did want some stability. Physical touch would be nice as well. I hadn't realized just how much the old pack house had smelt like home until I moved here. New scents were everywhere and I felt an ache in my chest.  After I excused myself from the group to head down to sleep I saw that I had messages in the group chat.  Rugal; "What a fetching picture little one." Leyla; "OOh, you like Victoria Secrets? I can't wait to take you shopping with me!"  Rugal; "Did you fall asleep little one?"  I blushed hard at the terms of endearment and quickly sent a message letting them know where I had been. They knew that I lived in a safe place and I doubted that they would be upset I was hanging out with the other girls. I had made it inside my home and picked up Loaf, my chubby but loud black cat who was more a cuddly little monster than the fearless creature of the void that he liked to pretend to be.  Settling down with him on the couch and a cup of tea I was planning to read a few chapters of the book I had picked up at the library early in the week, but instead was startled by the ringing of my phone. Seeing Rugal's name on the caller ID I moved over to the window seat to watch the rain drizzling down the panes as I answered.  "Hiiiii, it's late!" I sounded hyper and a little drunk even to myself. Oops, not the best way to make a good impression on my mate.  "Little one, why are you awake so late? You have an early morning tomorrow!" His concern was adorable, but I didn't sleep very much. 5 to 6 hours a night was enough for me and I usually went to bed around 2 am.  "I'll go in a bit, I'm just unwinding." Loaf jumped up on my lap and demanded pets before curling up like his namesake on my lap. Stroking his soft fur and looking at the rain outside I couldn't help but let out a happy little sigh, which prompted Rugal to chuckle on the other end of the line.  "Just make sure you get enough sleep, we can't have you getting sick on us little one."  "Are you both there?" I felt a little weird asking, but I also wanted to know if Leyla was around, wondering if Rugal only wanted to talk to me when she wasn't around.  "Leyla is here, happily watching some crime show and finishing off a lovely bottle of wine."  "HI SOPH!" I heard Leyla yell and then a little chuckle from Rugal as she apparently went back to what she was watching.  "I just wanted to check on you," his voice softened and it sounded like he was laying down now, I imagined him and Leyla curled up on the couch together and wondered in there was space for me as well. Pushing away both the thought and the small lance of pain that went through my heart I quickly reassured him.  "I'm fine, just having a night with some of the girls in my building. I think I like them, it's nice to have friends."  "Okay little one, sleep well." He sounded sleepy now and I head Leyla quietly wish me a good night as well before the line went dead.  I looked over at my book, but my heart wasn't in reading. Instead I really wanted to feel home again. Mom stayed up late like I did, so I chanced giving her a call, happy when she picked up on the first ring.  "Hey mom, I miss you."  "I miss you too Sophie Bear."  "Mommmm" I blushed and ducked my head as she used the old nickname and reminded me that some things never change.  "So why are you calling so late?" I could hear her chopping things up, likely working on lunch for the pack for the next day, something she loved to do.  "I just had a long day, met some new people, realized I miss home." I didn't want to tell her about my mates right away, I wanted a few minutes where she would ask questions about me and not them.  "Aww sweetie, you know you can always come home to visit or stay. We kept your room the same and your dad is planning to leave it for you as long as you want. One of your friends dropped by with some dried herbs she said you wanted, I was going to mail them, but you can come get them if you want?"  The way she asked was so sweet and my heart swelled with the knowledge that she still wanted me at home.  "It's okay mom, go ahead and mail them. I don't know when I'll be home. I kind of found my mates today..." I trailed off hoping that she wouldn't make a big deal over the plural. It wasn't that uncommon for an Omega to have multiple mates, the only weird thing in our situation was that they were both Alphas, usually it would be an alpha and a beta, multiple betas, or Alphas that were related by blood.  "Already? Tell me all about them!" My mom sounded very excited and the speed of her chopping sped up, a sure sign that she was practically vibrating with energy and waiting for me to speak. I spent about 30 minutes telling her all about meeting them and everything I knew before we said goodnight.  Loaf had already gone into the room and fallen asleep on the bed so I decided to follow his lead. Brushing my teeth and washing my face I threw my hair up in a braid so it wouldn't tangle during the night and then laid down before turning on my TV. It was odd, but my favorite thing to sleep to was Forensic Files, the guy had such a soothing voice and it paired well with the rainy mood. I wondered if this was the same show Leyla was watching.  I didn't even make it through half an episode before I fell into some of the best sleep I had ever had. Dreams of my mates scent and being held close between them teased me as I slumbered and when I woke up I felt well rested and ready to tackle the day. Hopefully it would be calmed than the day before, I don't know how much excitement I can take!
