Chapter 18

1227 Words
Somewhere deep in the mountains, a woman screamed out in rage, venting out her anger by destroying her surroundings. The cave shook violently, on the verge of collapse. She raised boulders with a wave of her hands and slammed them against each other. She was raging mad. "How dare they disobey my order?!" She shrieked. Her orders to the night prowlers were simple! Bring the chosen one alive. They only needed to do as she said but it seemed they chose to do what they wanted. She felt it within her, the death of her messengers, two of the night prowlers. This only meant the girl's powers were getting stronger. And this was the reason why she needed to capture her, so she could harness her powers for herself. Now it was all a waste. After her anger dissipated, she whirled around and faced her minions who were cowering away in fear. No one wanted to aggravate the mistress in her dark mood. "Keep a close watch on the home of the royal white witch." She snarled. "Let me know when the Sisters Of The Night arrives." "Yes, mistress." The leader of the minions bowed deeply and flew out of the cave, followed by the others. The mistress remained in the cave, breathing heavily. It seemed she would have to use another way to get the chosen one. And she knew just what to do. ... Serena opened her eyes and scanned the room where she lay. This wasn't her room, she thought. There was a fire burning in the chimney. The curtains were drawn so she couldn't tell if it was daytime or night. She tried to get up but pain shot through her entire body, making her hiss in pain and collapse back on the bed. Her head throbbed terribly and she felt the prickle of tears as the pain became unbearable. She whimpered softly when she realized she was alone. Where was everyone? The door opened and Xavier walked in. He noticed her awake and he quickly rushed to the bedside. "You're finally awake." He whispered in relief, hugging her close. "Thank the goddess." "How long was I unconscious?" She whispered. "Three weeks." Xavier answered with a grimace. The entire household had been deathly worried when she didn't show any signs of waking up. "Three weeks?" Serena exclaimed. She had a lot of questions, but the first thing that came to her mind was Kendrick. "Is Kendrick here?" She asked. She had a feeling he would be worried about her. Xavier scowled when he heard the lycan's name. He didn't know how Kendrick found out about Serena's condition. But ever since he came, he hadn't left her bedside, thereby preventing him from being with her. "He's here." He answered finally. "He hasn't left your bedside since." "Really?" Serena gasped, her heart fluttering wildly. Kendrick was here? "Yeah, he's here. I have no idea how he knew about you. Seems the mate bond is stronger that I thought." Xavier admitted reluctantly. Just then, the door opened and Kendrick walked in. "Speak of the devil." Xavier muttered. Kendrick's eyes widened when he saw Serena awake, looking so pale on the bed. He strode towards the other side of the bed and pulled her into his arms carefully, relishing the sparks of the mate bond. Xavier got up to give them a little privacy. Even if he didn't like the Alpha, he also knew when to behave. "I'll get mother and father." He muttered and stepped out of the room, shutting the door quietly. Kendrick didn't say a word as he held Serena against him. He buried his face in the curve of her shoulder, breathing in the sweet scent, caressing her body. His arms tightened around her instinctively as he remembered the day he came and saw her looking so battered and weak. His beast had scratched at his mind viciously, wanting to emerge and tear apart the creature responsible for her condition. It had taken a whole lot of restraint to control himself, but he vowed that day to find the creatures responsible for attacking Serena. Serena could feel the tension rolling off Kendrick's body, proving to her how worried he had been about her. She wrapped her hands around his neck, her fingers tangling in his hair. No word was spoken, as they both relished the feeling of being together. Kendrick groaned when he felt her hands on his hair, caressing his scalp. He brought her closer and kissed her neck, making her shiver. He could feel his tense shoulders relaxing under her warm caress and he sighed deeply. He didn't know how long they stayed in that position but he didn't care. The only thing that mattered was his mate in his arms. Serena finally pulled back when she felt he was calm enough. She held his face and looked into his eyes, smiling sweetly. Kendrick cupped her face and stared deeply into her eyes. He felt he could drown in the silver depths and never surface. "How are you feeling, my angel?" He asked softly. It was amazing how the mate bond worked. He was already head over heels in love with her. He was ready to give her the time she needed to sort out her feelings for him, but he would never let her go. "A little bit weak." She whispered. "But I'm better now that you're here." She was still in pain, but it faded the moment she felt the sparks of the mate bond. "I was so worried about you." Kendrick murmured, placing warm kisses on her forehead. "I'm sorry I made you worried." Serena replied, only to be silenced with a deep kiss. Her breath hitched in her throat as she felt Kendrick's lips move over hers. She wasn't expecting the intensity of the kiss. Her heart hammered wildly in her chest as the kiss turned hotter, igniting something within her. Her body came alive under his touch and she moaned softly. She vaguely remembered the first kiss she got from Jayden, but that memory was pale in comparison to how she felt right now. Kendrick's lips were soft and inviting, expertly skillful, and it gave her the boldness to return his kiss with passion. He groaned in pleasure, his hand slipping into her hair, tugging her head backwards to ravish her sweet lips. This wasn't how he planned to give her her first kiss, but he couldn't help himself. He could feel his beast howling happily in response. He broke the kiss and trailed his lips down her cheek towards her neck. He peppered sweet kisses down her throat to the curve of her neck, where he would mark her. She moaned, eyes rolled back in pure pleasure. Excited gasps escaped her when his hands roamed her body hungrily. Never did she think of stopping him. She wanted more. Kendrick watched her with passionate eyes. He felt his beast emerging, wanting to mark and claim her. His grey eyes turned pitch black and his canines elongated as he nuzzled her neck, preparing to mark her. The tip of his sharp canines touched her skin and her breath caught. She moaned, pulling him closer, turning her face to the side to give him clear access. Suddenly Kendrick's black eyes flew towards the door as it swung open.
