Chapter 17

"I can see you actually like him." Instantly, her smile erased. She turned around, spotting Xavier standing behind her. She didn't want him to ruin her happy mood so she chose to remain silent. She was about to walk away when he held her back. "Wait. I'm sorry." He apologized. "I was an i***t to tell you things like that when I know nothing about the Alpha. A complete idiot." Serena secretly agreed but she decided not to say a word. Xavier grew restless when she remained quiet "I was just worried." He continued. "I thought he would take you away from me, from us. We only just got you back." Serena's heart melted when she heard those words. She couldn't stay angry at him no matter how hard she tried. "I'm not going anywhere." She said softly. "But you're his mate." "Yes, I am. But he's not taking me away. I'm not leaving." Xavier sighed and palmed his face. "I'm sorry." He murmured. "I was such an asshole." Serena grinned at him cheekily. "Yeah, you were a major asshole." She laughed. Xavier breathed a sigh of relief. The few hours he spent alone without talking to her felt like years to him and he didn't want that to happen again. "You missed lunch with us." He said as he tugged her back into the mansion. "I'll come to your room after I'm done eating." She told him and hurried to her room. There was a lunch tray already waiting on her bed when she stepped into her room and shut the door. A beeping sound drew her attention to the iPad. It was a text message from an unknown number. It was from Kendrick. [I'm home already, my love. Hope you had your lunch.] She smiled shyly and typed a reply, her fingers moving fast over the keypad. [About to take my lunch] A reply came back instantly like he had been waiting for her text. [Okay. I miss you already. Will call you later. I love you.] Serena squealed happily when she read his text. She fell back on the bed and hugged her pillow tight, kicking her legs happily. It felt so good. Suddenly she felt a presence in the room. A strong presence with a dangerous aura. She dropped the ipad and got up, feeling strangely uncomfortable. She hurried to the door to get Xavier but it didn't budge. She recalled closing, not locking it. When the door proved impossible to open, she tried to teleport to the other side like Xavier taught her, but she couldn't. Something was blocking her powers. "Don't waste your time trying to use your powers." A hoarse voice spoke from the corner of the room and she whirled around in terror. There was a man standing beside her closet, dressed in a black hooded robe. His face was hidden and all she should see was a pair of glowing eyes. Her heart slammed heavily against her chest in fear. "Your room is spelled with dark magic. Your powers won't work here." He continued. Serena looked towards the iPad. If she could just get it in time to call Kendrick... "Don't even bother." The man muttered viciously, reading her mind. "Your precious lycan won't be able to save you". He walked slowly towards her, his eyes glowing eerily. Serena moved backwards towards the bed, watching him warily. She couldn't even scream with the ball of terror lodged in her throat. She wished she could get to her iPad someway. She just had to touch a button and it would automatically call Kendrick's number. "I'm going to enjoy killing you." The strange man suddenly snarled at her. His hood fell off and revealed his face. Serena screamed in horror. There was no face. It was a skull with large horns and jagged teeth. The eyes glowed brighter as the creature lunged at her. She was unprepared for the massive weight. The creature crashed into her body and sent her flying backwards. Her body slammed into the wall and she dropped heavily on the floor. Blood spluttered from her mouth as she felt a sharp pain in her chest. The creature swung her bed aside carelessly, crashing it into the closet and moved towards her. Serena expected her parents to come running to her room because of the loud crash, but strangely, no one came. What kind of dark magic was this? The creature shrieked loudly and she had to cover her ears with her hands, despite the pain in her chest. It flung her again and she crashed into the door. She coughed out blood and groaned in pain. Her head was bleeding profusely and there was a steady stream of blood coming out from the corner of her mouth. She looked up and saw a silver dagger in the creature's hand. It stormed towards her slowly, its intent obvious. "I will be the legendary creature in the whole realm to kill the chosen one." It snarled and raised its hand to stab her heart. Serena saw her life flash before her, moments before the dagger descended. Was this the end? She shut her eyes and waited for the pain. But it never came. She opened her eyes in time to see another similar creature shove the first creature away. She thought it came to save her but she soon realized something else. "The orders were to bring her alive!" The second creature hissed. "The mistress will be very upset that you tried to kill the chosen one and bypass her orders." "To hell with the mistress!" The first creature roared. "If we don't kill her now, we would never get a chance like this again." "The mistress has plans to use her." The second creature argued. "Bring her alive. We would use her to lure the lycan and kill him. Her family will be next." Serena's eyes widened when she heard the creature's plan. Suddenly something bloomed in her chest, a very powerful feeling. The creatures didn't notice her body ascending into the air. Her eyes turned pitch white and her hair glowed brightly with power. Thunder bolts appeared in her hands as lightening flashed inside the room. It was at that moment the creatures noticed and backed away in terror. "I told you we should have killed her when we had the chance." The first creature growled out in anger. He pushed his partner away and flung the dagger towards Serena, but it stopped midway and disappeared. A strong whirlwind began and engulfed her, whirling faster and faster. Every object in the room was caught in the whirlwind as she unleashed her powers in anger. The creatures lashed out different dark spells and curses at her but they were nulled. When they realized she was in her element, they tried to escape using the black magic. But Serena's powers had them trapped. Thunder bolts struck them suddenly and they screeched loudly, their bodies filled with spasms of gut wrenching pain. Serena's eyes glowed brighter as her rage increased. She closed her fist and the creatures exploded, black blood splattering on the walls. The whirlwind gradually reduced until the furnitures in the room stopped floating, scatteringand all over the room. Her body descended slowly, her hair and eyes losing the bright glow. That was when she heard heavy banging on the door. She collapsed to the floor, her body weak all of a sudden. Her vision dimmed as she felt her consciousness fading. The door swung open suddenly and Xavier ran in, Logan and Isabel behind him. A crowd of warriors followed them in, but Serena saw nothing as her vision blurred. "Serena..." She heard Xavier's voice faintly. It sounded distant, as if he was calling to her from afar. She tried to keep her eyes open but her eyelids felt heavy. She could vaguely see her parents panicked expression as they lifted her and carried her out of the room. The darkness was pulling her under. Unable to hold back, her eyes closed and she succumbed to the darkness.
