Serena heard a knock on the door. Thinking it was Xavier, she frowned and turned away. She didn't want to talk to him. The knock sounded again and she yelled. "Go away Xavier!"
She heard the door knob turn and groaned silently. Xavier did not just know when to leave her alone.
"Serena." A deep voice called.
She stiffened on the bed. That wasn't Xavier's voice. It was the voice of the Alpha. Slowly, she turned around on the bed and met Kendrick's stormy gaze. What was he doing here?
"Hello." She murmured. "Can I help you with anything?"
Kendrick's lips curled into a smile. He shook his head and went to sit beside her on the bed. The room was filled with her scent and it made him feel lightheaded.
"I just had to come see you before leaving." He said, taking her hand in his.
The moment his skin came in contact with hers, she gasped. Electrifying tingles surged through her entire body and made her knees feel weak. What was this?
"What am I feeling?" She whispered, staring into his eyes. She liked the skin to skin contact and hoped he wouldn't let go of her hand.
"It's the mate bond." Kendrick answered. He was drowning in her scent, her silver eyes pulling him into their depths. "It's because you're my mate. You belong to me."
Serena's heart fluttered when she heard him.
"Now that we've found each other, our wolves recognizes the mate bond within us."
Serena frowned lightly. This was the same mate bond Xavier told her about. She voiced out her thoughts.
"If the mate bond wasn't there, will I still belong to you?"
Kendrick was taken aback by her question. Who put that thought in her head? It must be her twin, he thought. He decided to clear her doubts.
"A lycan is nothing without the mate bond." He explained. "It is what helps us find our soulmate, just the way humans find theirs by following their hearts. If there was no mate bond, I wouldn't be a lycan. I would be someone entirely different and I would still fall helplessly in love with you if I saw you under a different circumstance."
The words he spoke were from his heart and it reflected in his eyes. Serena stared at him in surprise. He just said he loved her, and he would love her even without the mate bond. So Xavier was wrong. She should have known that he was just jealous.
Her eyes lowered as she felt a blush blooming on her face. Apart from Jayden, she had never been with another boy. Jayden never made her feel this way. What she was feeling right now was so new to her and a bit scary.
"Look at me, my love." Kendrick whispered.
Serena felt her heart knock wildly in her chest. The endearment was too intimate for her. She couldn't meet his eyes and she pulled her hand away from his to cover a smile that was creeping up on her face.
Kendrick was disappointed at the emptiness he felt when she moved her hand away. He knew he was shy so he decided to be gentle with her till she got comfortable with him.
"I know it's all new to you. You don't have to be shy around me." He assured her.
Serena shook her head and looked up at him. She seemed to have a little courage because she didn't look away.
"I'm not shy." She murmured. "It's just that everything happening is all so strange to me."
"You've never been with a boy?" Kendrick asked in surprise. With a face and body like hers, men would kill to have her.
"I got a lot of unwanted attentions from boys when I was still in the human world." She explained. "Apart from that, I've never."
Kendrick didn't like that, but he understood and nodded.
At that moment, he heard Jack's voice through the mind link.
[Alpha I apologize for the interruption, but Leo called. It seems the elders have arrived]
Kendrick resisted the urge to growl in annoyance.
[Go wait in the car. I'll be down shortly] He replied and cut off the mind link.
While he communicated through the mind link, Serena noticed how his eyes turned foggy, as if he was in deep thought. A moment later, his eyes refocused on her and he gave her a charming smile that left her toes curling in response.
"I have to go now." He said. He wished he could spend more time with her but he knew he couldn't keep the elders waiting.
"So soon?" Serena blurted out without thinking. She didn't want him to leave just yet.
"I have a very important meeting that can't be rescheduled." He explained with a smile.
Then he lifted her chin until her mesmerizing eyes met his.
"I'll be here tomorrow to see you, I promise." He assured her.
She nodded and smiled sweetly at him. Kendrick felt a strong urge to kiss her, but he knew it was too soon. He didn't want to pressure her, so instead he kissed her forehead.
The sparks erupted from the skin to skin contact as he pulled back. "Do you have a phone my love?" He asked out of the blue.
"My father promised to get me one on my welcome party." She answered.
Kendrick dug into his pocket and drew out a large ipad. He took her hand and placed it in her hand.
"Use this. I'll get you another one on your welcome party."
There was a registered number in his name. She could use it before he got her her own.
She looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you."
"Say my name, my love." He murmured.
Her eyes widened and she felt her face heat up with a blush. She smiled shyly and looked away.
"Thank you, Kendrick."
"Much better." Kendrick replied with a heart stopping smile. "I'll call you when I get home, okay?"
She nodded, gazing up at him, still finding it hard to believe that this handsome lycan sitting beside her was her mate.
"Will you walk me to my car?" Kendrick couldn't resist asking. He needed to be with her one last time before leaving.
"Of course." She nodded shyly and stood up. Kendrick took her hand and pulled her with him towards the door.
They descended the stairs in comfortable silence and walked down the large hall to the front door.
As they stepped out, Serena noticed another man standing beside the Range Rover sport. This was the other lycan that came with Kendrick.
He had dark green eyes and bright red hair, the colour of flame.
"My lady, my pleasure meeting you. My name is Jack, the supreme gamma to Alpha Kendrick." Jack blurted out the second he spotted Kendrick with her.
Serena liked him immediately. He reminded her of Anderson.
She smiled warmly at him. "A pleasure to meet you too, Jack".
Then she felt Kendrick's arm go round her waist as he turned her away from the gamma.
"Get in the car, Jack." He muttered.
Jack obeyed immediately. He flashed a wide grin at Serena before disappearing into the car.
Kendrick didn't want another man smiling at his mate, even if it was his trusted warrior. He looked down at Serena and felt his wolf howl in excitement.
"You belong to me now, Serena. I will always protect you, no matter what." He vowed, pulling her close into a tight embrace.
Then he got into the back seat of the car and winked at her before Jack drove off.
She stood there for a while, cradling her new ipad and grinning foolishly to herself.
"I can see you actually like him." A voice spoke suddenly behind her.
