"Mine."
Kendrick whispered the words, his hot gaze pinned on Serena. He continued walking towards her, pulled by her intoxicating scent.
As he got closer to her, Xavier stepped in front of her, shielding her from Kendrick's view.
Kendrick's gaze snapped towards Xavier. His grey eyes darkened and his handsome face twisted into a scowl.
"Move aside, witch." He growled.
However, Xavier stood his ground without am ounce of fear. "Stay away from my sister." He snapped.
Logan spoke up. "Alpha Kendrick, would you do me the honour of being patient You're in my house. Give me that respect."
Kendrick shut his eyes and calmly drew in a deep breath. When he got control of his wolf, he opened his eyes and they were back to their stormy grey colour. He completely ignored the male witch and looked towards his mate.
"Forgive me, and my erratic behavior." He said softly and turned away. And to Isabel, he said, "My apologies, Lady Isabel. I got carried away."
Isabel had been worried when she felt the tension between the Alpha and her son. Now she just nodded and sat down back, after making sure Serena was alright.
Kendrick didn't bother to apologize to Logan as he lowered to his seat, his eyes still glued to the purple haired beauty.
"Alpha Kendrick." Logan continued. "I must say I am not pleased at your erratic behavior. I never even got the chance to introduce my children to you."
"Forgive me, Lord Logan." Kendrick muttered, and his lips curled into an arrogant smirk. "Please do introduce your children to me. After all, that is part of the reason I am here."
Logan shook his head, then gestured to Xavier and Serena. "This is Xavier Hope Michaelson, and Serena Andrea Michaelson."
Kendrick whispered her name, unable to believe that the moon goddess finally sent his mate to him.
"She's the chosen one in the prophecy." Isabel added.
"Well, she's mate." Kendrick murmured. There was no need keeping it away from everyone. It was quite obvious. She was everything he dreamed of.
"I think I am aware of that, Alpha Kendrick." Logan said. He and Isabel exchanged a look, and he nodded. "Why don't we have a private talk? Xavier take your sister out." He suggested.
Kendrick frowned when he realized she had to leave. His wolf scratched at his mind, wanting to go close to her.
Xavier grabbed Serena's hand and pulled her outside, and just before the door closed, she stared at Kendrick briefly and she felt her heart flutter at his intense gaze.

"I already dislike that Alpha. The rumours must be true." Xavier complained as he flopped on his bed. Serena sat at the reading table, unable to get Kendrick out of her mind.
"I mean, look at the way he acted." Xavier continued. "Like a wild animal. Did he think he could intimidate me? He doesn't stand a chance, right Serena?"
Serena was still lost in her thoughts so she didn't hear a single word of what he said.
Xavier sat up when the silence lengthened and stared at her. He walked to her front and snapped his fingers in front of her eyes.
"Serena! Earth to Serena!"
Serena jerked back, seemingly confused for a while.
"What are you thinking about?" Xavier demanded. "Don't tell me it's that Alpha."
"What exactly is wrong with the Alpha? He was rather polite, well not until you stepped in front of him." Serena said and snickered.
"Everything is wrong with him. Have you heard the rumours? Of course you haven't. People say he's ruthless and merciless, and he kills with ease."
"Are these rumours true?" Serena asked in surprise.
"Of course they're true."
"But he didn't look ruthless or any of that. He looked calm and carefree, like he couldn't hurt a fly".
"Don't tell me you're taking his side." Xavier snapped. He couldn't believe her.
"Of course not. I barely know him. How could you say something like that?"
Serena was upset. She didn't like Xavier's tone of voice.
"I'm sorry. I just... I guess I'm overreacting. I'm sorry."
He didn't know why he felt the strong urge to protect his sister from the Alpha. He wouldn't let some lycan take her away all because of some stupid mate bond.
"What did he mean when he said I'm his mate?" Serena asked curiously. It all felt strange to her, but at the same time exciting.
Xavier sighed deeply. He hated this conversation but he wouldn't dare lie to her.
"Every lycan and werewolf is destined by the moon goddess to be with their mate, like their second half. Just the way mom and dad are." He explained the best way he could. "And they always know when they find their mate because of the mate bond. It's like love at first sight for them."
"So Kendrick loves me?" Serena asked. Her face turned red with a blush at the thought. Apart from Jayden, she had never been with a boy and this was all so new to her. She couldn't explain the fluttering feeling she got when she thought of how handsome he was.
Xavier watched his sister and groaned inwardly. She was jumping into conclusions already.
"Well, you can say that." He said. "But it's all because of the mate bond. If the mate bond wasn't there, he wouldn't even spare you a glance."
He didn't mean to sound harsh, and his heart broke when he realized how much he hurt her with his words.
"Don't get me wrong." He tried to explain. "He really loves you, because you're his mate and because of the mate bond. Forget what I said before. I honestly don't know what's wrong with me."
Serena stood up abruptly. "I'm going to my room." She murmured, leaving the room and slamming the door.
She didn't understand why Xavier was acting strange. Was he jealous? Why would he be?
She stepped into her room, shut the door and lay on the bed.
When she recalled how Kendrick stared at her with so much love and passion, her heart fluttered again.

"I understand perfectly, Alpha Kendrick. But she can't go with you now." Logan tried to explain to the aggravated lycan. He turned furious when Logan told him Serena couldn't leave with him just yet.
"She just got reunited with us after so many years. She's not ready for a mate yet." He continued.
"Are you saying she should reject me?" Kendrick asked angrily.
"Of course not, Kendrick." Isabel cut in smoothly. If she allowed her husband continue, a fight would likely occur, just the way it did the last time they had an argument.
"Serena would never reject you, you have my word. But we just need you to give her some time, let her spend enough time with us, her family. Let her learn how to control her powers." Isabel continued softly. "She would definitely come to you when she's ready, I promise you. We all know you can keep her safe from the black witches and prepare her for the coming war."
Kendrick became calm after he heard Isabel. If he had to wait until she was ready, then he would do it for her. He took several calming breaths before nodding.
"I will agree, only if I have every right to come visit her whenever I want." He muttered, leaving no room for arguments.
Logan was about to protest when Isabel nudged him softly with her elbow.
"Of course, Kendrick. You're welcome to our home any time." She smiled. She knew better than to aggravate the Alpha again.
"You're more sensible than your husband, Lady Isabel." Kendrick muttered as he took his seat again.
Isabel chuckled merrily. "I agree with you on that."
Logan just shook his head and remained silent. Hours later, it was time for Kendrick to leave. He turned to Logan and voiced out his request.
"I need to see my mate before leaving."
