Chapter 19

"GET AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!" Logan roared the moment he saw what Kendrick was trying to do. He waved his hand and Kendrick flew back and crashed into the closet. Serena shrieked and jumped off the bed, trying to get to Kendrick. In the blink of an eye, Kendrick had shifted into his massive silver beast. He roared at Logan, furious at the disrespect. No one would dare treat him like that and go unpunished. Logan just stared at him unfazed. The beast charged forward and he prepared to lash out a spell to take the him out, when Serena suddenly threw herself in front of him. The beast halted instantly, his gaze meeting hers. No matter the gravity of his fury and rage, he would never hurt her. He snarled at her, wanting her to step aside so he could wipe the smug smile from Logan's face. "Kendrick! Enough!" She snapped, pinning him under her gaze. Slowly, Kendrick shifted back to his human form. She hurried to his side and he pulled her into his arms, yet his eyes were still on Logan. The door burst open and Isabel walked in with Xavier in tow. She took one glance at the ruined room, saw her daughter shaking in Kendrick's arms, then she turned to Logan whose arms were folded. "What happened here?" She demanded. Logan felt uncomfortable under her unnerving stare. No matter how powerful he was, he was always vulnerable when it came to her. "Nothing, my love." He replied, smiling innocently. Isabel narrowed her eyes at him. She knew he wouldn't say it. She turned to Kendrick who still held Serena. "Well, are you going to tell me what the hell occured here?" She snapped. It was rare for her to curse, and this only showed that she was pissed. Suddenly the situation looked hilarious. Kendrick grinned at her and when she glared at him, he chuckled softly. "You worry too much Isabel. Nothing happened." He murmured. "We just had a little misunderstanding." "Just a minor one." Logan added. Isabel knew she would get nothing from both men. They were as stubborn as mules. "Alpha Kendrick." Logan called out before she could say another word. The smile remained on his face but his eyes were hard. "Let us speak in my office." Kendrick got the hint and nodded. He released Serena and caressed her face. "I'll be back sweetheart." He kissed her forehead and followed Logan out of the room. An awkward silence filled the room after the men left. Serena felt embarrassed at the way she acted, clinging to Kendrick like a little child. She stole a peek at Isabel and smiled innocently. "Don't try to look so innocent." Xavier scoffed. "How are you feeling now, honey?" Isabel ignored Xavier and went to stand beside Serena. "I'm fine, mom. Much better." Serena smiled, remembering the kiss she and Kendrick shared. "Are you sure you're okay? No pain? Nothing?" "I'm sure. You don't have to worry." Isabel smiled and kissed her cheek. "Good." She murmured. Serena sighed, relieved that she wasn't asking about the incident that occurred between her father and Kendrick. However, Isabel's next statement proved her wrong. "Now you're going to tell Xavier and I exactly what happened." ... Kendrick's hard glare was directed at nothing as he listened to Logan's endlessly complaints. He knew he was wrong for trying to mark Serena in her condition. Something drastic could have happened to her because she was still recovering from the attack she had. Still, he didn't regret trying. She was his mate and he had every right to mark her. It was already so hard staying away from her, letting her spend enough time with her family instead of him. "I hope you understand Alpha." Logan finally finished his long speech. He had been ranting ever since they stepped into the office. "I do, Lord Logan." Kendrick answered. "Just like you, I'll do anything to protect Serena." "I'm glad we understand each other." Logan nodded. "We both want the best for her." He actually understood how Kendrick felt being away from Serena. Lycans were fiercely possessive and territorial, and staying away from his mate affected him extremely. "I think you should leave." He continued. "You can see her again two days from now, on the day of her welcome party." Kendrick's jaw clenched in suppressed anger. Logan was right. The more he stayed beside Serena, the more his beast urged him to mark her. And it wasn't time for that yet. A dark scowl marred his handsome face as he stood up. "Very well, Lord Logan. Keep my mate safe." Without another word, he turned and walked out of the office. ... "Are you sure nothing else happened?" Isabel asked after Serena finished narrating what occured. She found it hard to believe that Logan went crazy just because he caught Serena and Kendrick kissing. Serena wasn't a child anymore, and Kendrick was her mate. It wasn't a big deal. "Nothing else happened." Serena nodded. "I have no idea why dad acted that way." While she spoke, Xavier watched her in silence. He knew what happened. He knew Kendrick tried to mark her, and that was the reason why their father went crazy. He didn't say anything though. They probably had a reason why they didn't want Isabel to know. "I guess your father was just being overprotective." Isabel sighed. "That's how he was with Xavier." "Dad needs to give me a break." Serena complained. "I like Kendrick, and I'm not a little girl anymore." Isabel chuckled when she heard her. "I'll talk to him, okay?" She assured her. "Okay." Serena nodded, then turned to Xavier and frowned suspiciously. "You're strangely quiet. Aren't you going to say something? I know you don't like Kendrick." Xavier grinned and ruffled her hair. "I have nothing to say." He said. "And I don't think Alpha Kendrick is so bad after all." He appeared normal one the outside, but within, he was worried. He didn't know how Logan would react to his relationship with Cassie. He was royalty, and a relationship with a common maid would be frowned upon. "Do you have someone special?" Serena asked suddenly. She hadn't seen her brother with anyone, and it was a surprise with how handsome he was. She had noticed a few of the other young witches staring at him dreamily, but he never paid them any attention. Xavier's heart flipped when he heard her. He couldn't tell her about Cassie now, not in the presence of their mother. He would have to tell her some other time, when they were alone. So he repeated his usual response whenever he was asked that question. "When I find someone, you will definitely know." Serena laughed and started to tease him when a knock sounded in the door. "Come in." Isabel called out. The door opened and Jade walked in. His eyes met Serena's gaze for the briefest of seconds before he looked away and bowed. "The Sisters of the Night has arrived." He reported. "Lord Logan requests your presence in the throne room to meet them." ... Six women sat around the throne room, dressed in red hooded robes, looking solemn. They had just arrived after so many months on the road, because they only travelled on the night of a full moon. They all rose up as Lord Logan walked in with Isabel, Xavier and Serena. Logan nodded at them and sat on the throne, with Isabel beside him, while Xavier and Serena sat at the other side. Serena observed the Sisters of the Night with interest and curiosity. She had heard so much about them and was eager to see how they looked. As Logan was about to speak, the leader of the Sisters looked towards Serena sharply and pointed at her. "The night prowlers attacked you, didn't they?"
