Serena's expression turned sad all of a sudden. The way Xavier spoke to her reminded her of Anderson. That was how he called her name whenever he tried coaxing her into doing something.
All the memories she had with her friends came rushing back and she felt a heavy lump in her throat. She missed them.
Her heart skipped a beat remembering Jayden, her first love. There were no tears in her eyes, but she felt her heart break thinking about them.
Xavier noticed the change in her expression and he sighed. It had been like this for the past two weeks. Serena would be bubbling with excitement and mischief and the next minute, she would become so reserved and distant.
He knew it was because of the life she had in the human world.
Thinking of a way to cheer her up, he cupped his hands and muttered a spell, and a flame of white light appeared on his palm. He released it, watching it glide through the air to hover in front of Serena.
Serena noticed it and a small smile appeared on her lips. She reached out and cupped the flame with her palm.
Suddenly it turned purple.
"Did you see that?" She asked excitedly.
Xavier smiled, but his eyes were on the purple flame, wondering why it changed colour.
"You made it turn purple." He stated the obvious.
"This is all so new for me." Serena said softly. "I can't believe this kind of power resides within me."
They both fell silent, passing the flame to each other and until a knock sounded on the door. The flame snuffed out as Serena jumped up to open the door.
"There you are." Isabel said with a big smile, walking in holding a large breakfast tray. There was steak, bacon and eggs, fries, hot cinnamon sauce, two bowls of hot soup and two apples.
"I knew Xavier would be here when I didn't find him in his room. Can't stay away from your sister." She continued with a chuckle, setting the tray down on the bed.
"Mom, you didn't have to." Xavier protested.
"Nonsense." Isabel brushed his concern aside. "I don't mind."
"Thanks mom. You're the best." Serena smiled, embracing her tightly.
"Why, you're welcome, honey."
"Where's dad? Why aren't we eating together?" Xavier wondered, pulling a chair close to sit. He grabbed a handful of fries and shoved it into his mouth.
Serena swatted his hand away, shaking her head unbelievably
"He has some unfinished business to do in his study, so he had an early breakfast." Isabel answered, settling on the bed to watch her children eat. "Also, he's having a visitor later on. A very important visitor."
"What visitor?" Serena asked, blowing lightly on the bowl of soup.
"One of our allies. Alpha Kendrick." Isabel answered.
Xavier frowned suddenly. He knew Alpha Kendrick, the ruthless alpha who was both merciless and terrifying. He had heard a lot of rumours about him, and most of them were true. He also heard that he hadn't found his mate yet after so many years.
"The lycan who helped us win the first war with the black witches right?" Serena asked, remembering the stories Logan told her.
"That's correct, darling." Isabel nodded.
"Will he come with his pack?" Xavier asked as he shoved another handful of fries into his mouth.
He dodged Serena's slap again and grinned as she took the plate of fries out of his reach. Then he reached out for one of the steak and placed it on his plate.
"No. I think he will come alone. Or with his beta and gamma. He will definitely come with his pack on the day of Serena's party."
Serena finished her soup and took the other plate of steak. When Xavier tried to reach out and grab the plate of fries, she swatted his hands again.
"Knock it off." She yelled, hiding it behind her. If he grabbed another handful, she wouldn't have any for herself.
Isabel sat back, watching them with a smile.
Unable to get the plate of fries, Xavier tried to grab the two apples on the tray when he saw Serena suddenly stiffen.
Her plate of steak fell off her hands and her eyes turned completely white.
Isabel knew what was happening. This was the same thing that happened to Xavier the day he had a vision of Serena.
"What's happening to her?" Xavier asked in panic. He tried to touch her but Isabel held him back.
"Don't touch her. She's having a vision."
"A vision?"
"Honey, you remember the time you had a vision about your sister, when her powers got unleashed?"
Xavier nodded.
"That's exactly what's happening to your sister. At first your father and I thought witches didn't have visions. But it seems you and your sister are different. There's nothing to worry about. Just go call your father. Serena is fine."
"Why can't I hold her then?" Xavier asked worriedly.
"Your father said in this case, you can't touch her. If you do, she could lose her concentration and her soul will be lost in the astral realm. Just go call your father. He needs to be here."
Without another word, Xavier left the room. A few seconds later, he arrived with Logan.
"Logan, it's happening again." Isabel said worriedly.
Logan held her close and comforted her.
"She's just having a vision. Remember when it happened to Xavier."
She nodded, watching Serena with worried eyes.
Half an hour later, Serena inhaled deeply and opened her eyes.
"What's happening?" She wondered. "Dad, when did you get here?"
Logan released Isabel and sat on the other side of the bed. "You remember I told you about Xavier's visions." He began.
Serena nodded, wondering where the conversation was leading.
"The same thing just happened to you." Logan continued. "You just had a vision."
"That was a vision? It felt so real." Serena whispered.
"Tell us what you saw." Xavier asked softly, drawing closer to her.
Serena frowned as she tried to remember.
"I saw an altar in a dark secluded cave. There were three figures, but I felt the presence of other creatures in the dark."
Her frown deepened as she continued. "There were strange markings on the altar, and there was a blue crystal in the middle of the cave, throbbing with blue energy. One of the figures chanted a strange spell and blue smoke poured out from the crystal."
She looked up at her parents. "I was in my vision." She murmured. "I saw myself."
"What do you mean?" Isabel asked curiously.
"The three figures." Serena continued. "They know about me, and I think they will come for me."
She tried to remember the part about the lycan but it was hazy in her memory. She couldn't recall.
Logan had a dreadful look on his face. "Those are the dark witches." He murmured. "And they're more than three. It seems they know about you being the chosen one."
