Chapter16

We finally pulled up to my dad's company building, which was officially serving as the new headquarters. The formal announcement emails had already been blasted out to all our investors and business partners regarding the update. Logan and I walked side-by-side into the building, marching toward the main conference hall where the team was already gathered. My assistant, Vera, was waiting near the entrance with her iPad tightly in hand. "Good to see you, ma," she greeted softly, bowing her head slightly as she took my handbag. I turned to Logan. "Vera will be presenting the details on our new project." He gave me a brief nod before walking over to the head of the conference table to take his seat. The tech team had already set up the projector, allowing Vera's screen to display directly onto the wall. She cleared her throat, shifting her weight as she started her presentation, trying her best to project confidence. But Logan wasn't listening. His eyes kept drifting back to me every few seconds. He looked completely captivated and distracted, a fact that didn't go unnoticed by the rest of the room. I lowered my head, a warm, fluttery sensation blooming deep in my stomach. "What do you think about this idea, sir?" Vera inquired, snapping us back to reality. Truthfully, even I had lost track of what she was saying. Logan blinked, looking completely lost for a second. Then, his gaze locked onto me, a slow grin spreading across his face. "Why don't you come over here and explain it to me, Allie? Maybe then I can actually focus." A quiet murmur rippled through the room as everyone stared at us. Licking my dry lips, I stood up and walked over to Vera, gently taking the iPad from her grip. I heard her let out a quiet exhale, the utter confusion written all over her face. She probably thought her presentation was failing, completely unaware that she was just dealing with a needy man who craved his woman's attention. "Today, we are discussing the future of ZenCore," I announced, finding my footing. "My team and I prepared this concept and reached a conclusion. What if we produce a phone that functions not just as a mobile device, but also doubles as a laptop and a gaming console?" Logan's smile widened, giving me a skeptical look that practically said, ~you can't be serious.~ He was clearly still teasing me. "Interesting," he countered, his posture straightening as he tried to look professional. "Have you actually been able to manufacture a prototype to test this out?" Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Vera subtly roll her eyes. This was the exact point she had just spent five minutes explaining while he tuned her out. I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing at her expression. "We haven't built it yet, sir," I answered smoothly. "But now that we have merged with your company, we are hoping to carry this plan out." A wave of supportive applause broke out around the table, shared by both my legacy employees and his staff. "I'll be looking forward to it, Mrs. Carter," he murmured, throwing a deliberate wink my way. My face burned, and I wanted nothing more than to hide my blushing cheeks. The expressions on my employees' faces were a hilarious mix of shock and total bewilderment. With that final note, the morning meeting wrapped up. As the chairs scraped back and everyone began filing out of the room, Logan's hand suddenly shot out and gripped my wrist. "Stay," he commanded softly. He lifted my hand again, pressing another slow kiss to my skin. "Let's have a private meeting here that involves privacy only." The underlying meaning didn't register at first, but then a vivid flashback of his words from last night hit me. A wave of heat rushed through me as I finally understood. "Close the door on your way out, Vera," he directed. She was the last one leaving the room. She pulled the heavy double doors shut, sealing us inside. The moment the latch clicked, Logan turned to me. Before I could even utter a word, he hooked his hands under my thighs and lifted me off the floor, depositing me right onto the edge of the large conference table. He stepped firmly between my legs. Shucking off his suit jacket, he threw it aside and cupped my face with both hands, pulling me in for a breathless, urgent kiss. "Logan, wait," I gasped against his mouth, trying to find some shred of reason while pushing weakly against his chest. "Anyone could walk in." He pulled back slightly, his chest heaving as he looked down at me. The sheer hunger in his dark eyes was terrifyingly hot. ~This man looks so hungry,~ my inner voice whispered. He tilted my chin up, his thumb tracing my jaw. "Does it matter?" he whispered back. I blinked in disbelief. ~Is he crazy? What does he mean, does it matter?~ Before I could argue, his hands slid up my thighs, gathering the fabric of my black dress until it was pushed past my hips, exposing my vibrant red lacy underwear. He paused, his eyes darkening further as he stared down at the contrast. "Red?" he murmured, a low growl in his voice. "This is very dangerous, sweetheart." He leaned back in, his fingers slowly sliding beneath the lace. Just as a gasp left my throat, a sharp knock rattled the door. Without even waiting for a response, the double doors swung wide open. "Miss Hayes, you have a visitor."
