Chapter 17             It has been a week after Adam’s birthday. My life has changed so much since I moved here. Adam had been bringing me to many places in the world. Morning breakfast at Paris over-looking the grand Eiffel Tower, Lunch at Taj Mahal India for their authentic spicy curry rice, it was so aromatic, Dinner at Santorini Greece overlooking the magnificent city and beautiful sunset by the sea. This month had been a roller coaster and I have seen the world in a few days more than my whole life. Adam told me that he had an important soul collection today, so he was unable to pick me up after tutorial classes.             A shinning white BMW parked in front of the campus. I walked past the car and the chauffeur stopped me. “Hi Ms. Spencer. Mrs. Smith would like to have a word with you.” The sound of the name ringing in my head. The windscreen of the BMW was scrolling down, and I glanced into the passenger seat. I couldn’t believe that Adam’s mother would be here to see me. “Hi Mrs Smith. Why are you here?” I greeted. “Come in. We shall talk at a quieter place.” Mrs Smith answered impassively. I thought for a while and I said “Alright. Let me make a call to my friend to inform that I won’t join her for dinner.” I called Mei Ling to inform that I would have dinner with Mrs. Smith and can’t have dinner with her. Mei Ling was shocked upon hearing her name.             There was complete silence in the car. I just felt awkward and hope that it would end soon. I looked outside of the car to avoid looking at Mrs. Smith as I knew they could read my mind by just looking into my eyes. We stopped in front of Ichiban Restaurant; the wooden gliding door was slide open automatically. The waitress bowed and greeted us “Irasamase” and they ushered us to the VIP private room and along the pathway there are two samurai statues at the front of the room. Mrs. Smith ordered some dishes in Japanese language. I was listening to her in awed.             “I ordered some of their famous dishes. I hope you don’t mind.” Mrs Smith told. I smiled and nodded in reply.             “We had a bad start that day. I think we should start over again.” Mrs Smith told with her impassive expression.             “Thanks for the invitation.” I sat straight up.             Our conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door. The waitress came in to serve hot green tea and Sashimi.             “Do you know that we are not supposed to use our powers freely?” Mrs. Smith asked me. I nodded my head.             “And yet Adam has been using his powers for selfish reasons. His life has been shortened tremendously.” Mrs. Smith glared at me.             “I am sorry Mrs Smith. I didn’t know it will affect him so much. I will tell him not to use his powers.” I replied.             “Then I will go straight to the point... Please leave Adam now. He is not suitable for you.” Mrs. Smith’s words are like a sharp sword, pierce right into my heart.             “Huh? What you mean? Adam can make his own decisions.” I was confused.             “We only could produce offspring when we mate with another Grim Reaper. Grim Reaper and Human cannot produce offspring. We are the Smith family; we must produce a male heir and our first born is always a baby boy.” Mrs Smith explained emotionless.             “I couldn’t believe this.” I exclaimed.             “I know this might be hard for you. Here. A 5 million cheque for you. You just accept this as compensation.” Mrs. Smith explained presenting a cheque without any name on it. “You just have to break up with Adam and 5 million will be yours, he will erase your memory after this.”             “What? This is just ridiculous!” I jumped out of my seat, took the cheque and tore it apart. I was so furious, and I was about to stomp out of the room.             “Wait! I knew you will have this reaction. But will you be with someone who is responsible for your father’s death.” Mrs. Smith explained.             “Huh? You are confusing me even further. My father died in a car accident.” I was losing my patience.             “Adam is responsible for your father’s death. You shall ask Adam about it.” Mrs Smith explained. I stomped out of the VIP room. I couldn’t believe what I have just heard. I went outside of the restaurant; skies were gloomy, and it started to drizzle. I ran to the direction of my house; my mind was in complete chaos. Mrs. Smith was not here to talk peace, she doesn’t even remember my name. She left the receiver of the cheque blank.             It was raining cats and dogs when I reached my apartment. I was completely drenched. I opened my apartment with my keys. Mei ling was in the kitchen washing dishes and she was shocked to see me in this state. “Are you alright, babe?” Mei Ling asked, she was concerned. But I can’t tell Mei Ling anything about Adam. “I am alright. I forgot to bring my umbrella.” I explained. Mei Ling glanced at my bag and she must have noticed that the umbrella was at my bag’s side pocket. She was silenced about it. I went back to my room and took a hot shower. What if what Mrs Smith said was true? I won’t forgive him if he murdered my father.             I was getting ready to call it a night, reading a novel with the side lamp on. I have heard the bathroom door creaked and there is a knock on the door. “Adam?” I called out while peeking over the bathroom door. “Can I come in?” Adam asked. “Come in. I have questions for you.” I prompted him to come in the room.
