Chapter One
The courtroom was filled with chatters of people, couples about to get married, and their families, laughing and celebrating with them. Arya sat in front of her parents in the waiting area. She was waiting for Jamal, her soon-to-be husband. She opened the front page of her diary resting on her lap. Her name” Arya Sinclair “ was boldly written on the first page. She turned to the second page and it revealed a smiling picture of her and Jamal with a” My love “ inscription. Her lips curved into a wide smile. She was going to get married to the love of her life today. She turned to an empty page and started writing,” Today is the day I marry the boy I’ve loved forever. It feels like a dream but it’s happening after all. I can already picture us in our new house with our children playing happily………” “Next couple, Arya Sinclair and Jamal cross.” The voice of the court register interrupted her writing. She stood up immediately and looked around. “ Where’s Jamal?” Her mother asked. “ He’s on his way mum, I’ll give him a call.” Arya picked up her phone and walked to a quieter corner. Just immediately her phone beeped. A text message from Jamal. She smiled and opened it. “Hey, Ary listen up. I’m at the airport, and I have a flight to San Francisco. I have to meet up with a couple of VCs there. If everything goes well, I will get a promotion. And Ary there’s something else, I don’t want to get married to you anymore. I’m not coming back. I met someone else, I tried telling you but I never got the chance. I know things will be difficult for you, and please apologize to your parents on my behalf. I have to do what I have to do. Bye.“ Arya's heart trembled. Is this a joke? She dialed Jamal’s number, but it was unreachable. She tried a couple more times, same thing. Everywhere went silent to her. She read the text over and over again as her eyes blurred with tears. The phone slipped out of her hand and she fell to the ground. “Arya, what happened?” Her mum yelled, rushing to her. That was the last thing she heard before she passed out, with the text in her head. Her mother called out to her father in a broken voice, and he came towards them in a hurry. They tried reviving her but she wasn’t responding, and she was rushed to the hospital. Hours later…… Arya opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was the worried face of her mother staring at her. “Arya what happened. You got us all scared. Why did you fall like that? Jamal isn’t going to be happy when he hears of this. I’m going to call him now” she ranted. “Can you let the poor girl rest? She just opened her eyes and you’re already throwing her questions. Can't you see she’s crying?” Arya's father reprimanded her. Just then, Arya's mother looked towards her and saw her crying silently, and she felt sad. “He’s not coming back. Jamal. He said he doesn’t want to get married to me anymore. He found someone else. It hurts mummy.” Arya cried out. Her mother hugged her and started patting her back.” It’s okay darling, stop crying. Everything is going to be fine okay. Mummy is here.” She patted her for some minutes, Arya calmed down, and fell asleep. Minutes later, a doctor walked into the room with a calm face, his expression a mix of concern and reassurance. He gently asked the family to give Arya space as she needed to heal. He told them she was stressed, and with enough rest, she was going to be fine. And with that, her parents left the room.
