I've been waiting for almost two hours now. I wasn't the last one, but unfortunately, I needed to stay here and wait my turn for quite a while. There were just four persons before me.
I became more anxious to get there and connect with what will become my weapon for the rest of my life.
"Invicta, you are next! Step forward, so one of the soldiers can help you with the fold."
I nod eagerly, not being able to speak.
A man around thirty walks to me with a black fold in his hand. We weren't allowed to see the entrance to the tunnel. It was forbidden for all of us to go there alone. Only the Elders knew about it. The general, my father, was always helping them, supervise the new soldiers while they connected with their crystal. But even he was bought there blindfolded.
I couldn't see anything. Someone grabbed my hand and pulls slowly, making me step forward.
" Come! I'll help you to the tunnel!" It was Samoa.
'Of course, it was him! Who else?'
I didn't respond to him but follow his lead.
Forty-nine. I was counting the steps, trying to memorise how many turns we took. Don't blame me! I like to know things that not many knows.
"Here you go!" He said taking the blindfold off.
Breathtaking! That's all I could manage to think. My senses disappeared. I couldn't hear, feel or smell anything. All I could do was see. And what I saw was pure bliss!
Millions of crystals of different shapes and sizes were covering the walls and cellar of the narrow tunnel. I was mesmerised!
Someone shakes my shoulders, making me turn around ready to punch whoever dared to interrupt me.
"Invicta! You need to move! Now! We don't have all day! Others are out there waiting for their turn! Maybe I should go with you! Who knows what stupid things you'll try to do?" He says the last part more for himself.
I rolled my eyes but didn't object! I know that I can not win an argument with him. Besides, I am sure that he planned this for a while now.
My legs move forward on their own accord, while my eyes stayed glued to the hypnotising crystals.
Blue, radiant light kisses my skin, giving me a homely feeling.
As I go deeper into the tunnel I am met by the most amazing view. A huge cave full of crystals lies in front of me, and in the middle of it stands one different from the rest. A big perfect triangle-shaped crystal in the same colour as blood. Nibira’s Heart.
Suddenly, my head starts spinning. An agonising pain envelopes my body.
"Choose! Choose! Choose!" A warm voice sounds in my mind.
Making the pain worse with every word.
I tried to figure out who said that! It wasn't Samoa for sure. His voice is cold and deep.
"Father?" I ask confused, noticing my father a few feet away.
"Invi? Are you ok? You are looking so pale?"
"I'm not sure, father! This place makes me feel differently."
"It should be your crystal! You need to choose now! Try to connect with it!"
I nod and look around, trying to see all the crystals around me. But the voice came again. " Choose! Choose with your heart! Choose! Choose!"
Falling on my knees I bring my hands to my head, struggling to keep the pain away, so my mind could be clear.
"Invicta!" My father shouts.
"General, stay where you are!" Samoa said, making my father stop in his tracks.
"But Samoa, what is happening? I never saw anyone like that."
His voice sounds desperate and full of worries.
"She is a War Angel, Belatrox! Her crystal is more powerful than the rest, which makes the connection between the two painfully."
I could hear his steps on the ground. He was coming my way.
"Invicta, listen to me! You need to find the thread and grab it! Hold on to it with all your being. Now choose!" He said to me referring to the connection.
I close my eyes! I need to choose with my heart. This is what the voice said.
Millions of threads appeared in my mind.
' Which one is the right one?' I thought.
"Choose your weapon, Invicta!" Samoa's rough voice came from next to me.
But before I could decide which one to grab, a force pushed me back. I opened my eyes instantly, afraid of a possible attack. But no one was there.
"Impossible!" I hear Samoa saying. I stare at him and turn to see what he was looking at.
Nibira’s Heart was broken into two equal pieces, two perfect triangles. One was in the same place where it was when I got here, and the other was floating around.
"What's the meaning of this?" My father asks.
"This my dear Belatrox is Invicta's crystal."
"But how? No one in our whole history didn't have a part of Nibira's Heart as a weapon!"
"This is where you are wrong! The one that is in the possession of the Dark Stone always had this kind of crystal."
My eyes widened. He knew about the black spear!
"Do not worry! I won't punish you for that! Who I am to stand against Fate? I was waiting for so long to see the bearer of the Dark Stone! And here you are, in front of me unsure of what to do."
"Then tell me! What should I do now?"
"You need to trust me, Invicta! I know we are not the best of friends, but I don't want to harm you! I just try to protect you! As your father does. Please, trust me!"
'Is he? Was he truly trying to protect me all this time?'
"Ok! I will trust you! But do not tempt me, Samoa! It won't make any difference that you are an Elder!"
My words shocked even me. But I could take them back! He can't see my insecurity.
He smirks at me, then nods his head.
"Fine!" He added. "Now you need to finish the connection process. You need to command the crystal to come to you! Close your eyes and think about how you two became one! Hold your hand in front of you."
I did as he said and when I opened my eyes, the crystal was in my palm. But it wasn't glowing anymore. It was a matte dark red, reminding me of that pair of eyes of the first Molox I killed.
