In Between The Triangle

“Really brother I didn’t know you have such a good taste in women”Arnold remarks.He strolled around Edward’s study room,touching everything he sighted on.

“What is it you wanted to talk about”Edward leans on is desk,he crosses his arms and stare deeply at his brother.

“You wouldn’t let me ask about your well-being”Arnold sarcastically said.Edward doesn’t reply,instead he curses his brother silently.

“It’s about the viscount’s position,it had been empty for too long”

“I have no interest for that and you know it,if that’s the main reason you came all the way here,it is completely unnecessary”Edward disclosed and made his way to his seat.

“If you have no interest for that,why are you here,you are well aware this house belongs to the viscount and if you aren’t,it’s not yours”Arnold stands firmly in front of Edward.They drew a long gaze at each other,Edward was the one to look away first.

“I go against that Arnold,father gave me the position but I refused the offer and am giving you for free,it’s not your position but I will let you work for me”Arnold laughs.He stops and rest his two hands on Edward’s desk leaning closer to look into his eyes.

“It was a mistake Edward,Father never said that in his sick bed,where were you when he gave that command you believed,‘Scotland’ I think,you ran away from home leaving no trail of where you went and now you come claiming for the position you never worked for”Arnold snorted and rise to balance himself.

“You don’t deserve it Edward,it’s my rightful position and it’s you who will work for me”

“I think you are still aware that you are merely a blood of this family but no longer part of the family”Edward straightens his shoulder,he was ready to deal with his brother in anyway.

“Father had announced that even to the king,even if you want the position,Lucian will be the one to step in,he’s the second son as you are no longer part of the family”Edward said.

“A old man’s word would have left the king’s ears,what counts is who is rightly the heir to the position and that is exactly what is going to happen,truthfully,I didn’t come here for a short visit,am preparing to live a lifetime in my house so either you beg to stay with your lovely bride or you leave quietly”Arnold smiles.Edward was ready for it,the war he would go through inheriting his father’s home.That had called him home.

Helena couldn’t believe her eyes when she sets them on the beautiful flowers that seated beside the lake.She bends to examine them one by one as she sees some are exactly the species she had grown at home.

“You shouldn’t get your dress dirty my Lady,it’s still quite early”Amber states as she stares at her reflection in the lake.

“I would get change if I do and please call me Helena,I want us to be formal with each other”Helena smiles at her and then directs her attentions back to the flowers.

“Very well,you refer me to Amber then”There was silence after that.Only the sound of the gentle breeze can be heard as everywhere is cold.Helena watches Amber as she stares at the lake.It seems it held a memory for her with the longing gaze.

“Does the lovely memories you had with Lord Arnold here the one you long for”Amber heard but kept quiet.She is smart enough to know Helena is trying to get informations from her.

“No ,it had been with Edward”Amber said.Though Helena wants to know more but she didn’t know Amber would actually blurt it out like that.

“You shouldn’t be surprised Helena,am no fool enough to not know you brought me here to feed your questions”Amber faces Helena who stood beside the flowers.

“Am sorry,am just trying__”

“To read the room,I understand”Helena gazes,embarrassed of how Amber had caught her.

“Edward and I were lovers,not from the very start but we had shared a bond with each other since we were children.My father had wanted to be part of the family as him and Edward’s father are close friends,they both planned to bethroth me with Arnold instead of Edward just because he was born illegitimately”Helena watches as Amber tells the story she needed to hear.

“Here had been the lovely childhood memories I had with Edward,so lovely I crave we do it again”Amber faces Helena and smiles.

“I am just unlucky to not be with him”She said and begins to walk away from the lake.

Helena didn’t follow up.She thinks Amber wasn’t going to be friends with her with what she had heard.

Amber didn’t care if she followed either,she wasn’t going to talk about the past but Helena made her do that.

“It’s not like I asked for Edward’s hand in marriage,he came to my father first,what a shame,Lady Amber would have been a perfect wife for him”Helena murmured to herself as she walks only in the forest.She comes by the Cottage and decides to settle in for some minutes,she needed a breathing space anyways.

She got in and settles on the bed first.It is lovely to walk alone without no one to disturb,Helena thought.

She couldn’t stop thinking of what Amber had said.If the lake held a beautiful memory of them together,that means they had probably done a lot of dirty things,Helena thought again.’Somethings like kissing’Helena smiles at her own silly thought.If Edward had been in love,he would have been soft.

The next day wasn’t different.Breakfast had been silent except the children’s chatter can be heard.

Helena had stayed in silent too,she is just a stranger in the love triangle.

“Abigail will be home soon you know”Arnold said after they had all finished the dishes.

“She wrote to me in the past week,she finished her study on animal care,that girl had always been virtuous”Abigail is the last and only daughter of the late viscount.Lucian is the one born before Abigail.

Except from Arnold,the others hadn’t treated Edward badly though they weren’t close to him either.

Lucian had always been quiet.He never gave any opinion in the house nor show any interest in being the viscount too.

Edward had heard of his marriage to a well known family,that had always being his father’s command ‘do not get stained with rags’.

Arnold spoke a few words about Abigail’s trip which no one except Helena listened.Helena couldn’t wait to escape to her room though she had despised being in her room in the past.

Helena often checks Amber’s reactions in the room but she couldn’t read through her.

‘Does that mean she hates me’ Helena thought.

She is bothered with the awkward situation she had been with Lady Amber the day before.She wants to start a conversation with her when the men had excused themselves but she didn’t know what to say first.

“Since you are fond of flowers,might we check on them to while away time”Amber said.Helena was shocked but composed herself.She thought the pretty woman would never talk to her again but it was just a silly thought of hers.

“Of course,I will be more than happy to join you”Helena said.Though she still feels uncomfortable with the past happenings but she tries to ignore that.

Flowers bring her happiness so therefore she thought of finding happiness in the suffocating love triangle she found herself in.
