A homecoming surprise
When you travel to the rose district you must always stop by the hidden spring. Tucked deep within the woodlands there you could find the spring with the coolest waters that tasted of honey and roses. And there among the trees you could hear the soft sounds of wings. Not wings from a bird or a June bug but from the wings of fairies. Now the fae folk are said to be extremely shy and this I know for certain as on one occasion I was blessed a glimpse of the most beautiful creature I ever saw just barely hovering over the spring that was at the base of my favorite willow tree. In her fairy form she was so small and dainty barely visible but with my vampire eyes I could see every detail of her lush copper red hair down to her emerald green eyes and her impish pointed nose. She was diving down to the water making ripples with her finger then gliding back up to watch the water smile back at her as she giggled. I fell in love instantly. I decided I had to meet her make myself known but as I crouched behind the rose bush I remembered I just returned from a long journey and wasn’t in the best way to meet such a lovely creature. As I stepped backwards my heel snapped on a fallen branch disturbing the serene scene and I saw that she heard and immediately dissolved into pixie dust. I waited a few heart beats but she never reappeared. I turned and ran decidedly in the direction that would lead me home deeper into the woods to hemlock grove. Maybe I’d come back tomorrow and try to find her again after I fed and rested maybe she would be back maybe I could learn her name. But just as I was a mile away from my little den I smelled this intoxicated sweet smell that I remember smelling just before I spotted the little fairy. I stopped and looked and just above me following me there was a trail of silver sparkles. She had followed me! I stood still as a statue waiting to see if she would appear but nothing just sparkles and the sweet honeysuckle and lily smell that I was inhaling like an addict. I started very slowly toward my little den dusting myself off as I went knowing I was dirty and smelly and desperately wanting to clean myself up. I lifted up the thick brush and crawled into my little cave space I had called home for few years now. I no longer belong to a coven like most vampires and prefer my privacy but I don’t need much just somewhere to rest away from the sun and this place was as good as any. Inside the cave there was a small stream that creeped in and pooled into a shallow pool at the back allowing me to take a dip in the cool waters and rinse off the grime from my travels. As I rested my body in the shallow pool I could sense someone watching me from above but when I looked up no sparkles. Must be my imagination or me hoping the little fairy was still here. She was absolutely beautiful with her short curls and long eyelashes as long as her sharp little nails and even her dainty little feet and toes were adorable. Those details were burned into my brain and I couldn’t help but smile as I continued to relax in the water.
