Mira is staying at a friend's place who convinces her to move to this small town far far away and takes admission in her university so she can live with her friend. Her friend Nora was like really close to her and felt a connect as if she was her sister. Mira and Nora met online rhrough a game few months ago. Mira agrees to move in with her to her small town. Mira was really scared. New people, new place. Mira was worried whether she will survive the change in culture and unfamiliar place. Nora introduced Mira to her friends and they started talking about the changes inUniversity. Where was Mira from? While talking, Mira noticed a lot of people whispering and talking about leaving the campus missing the day and classes. So Mira asked her friend, hey, what is happening? Don't people enjoy spending time after classes? And the friend looked at the rest of her friends and they stared at each other. Their faces turned pale and they were hesitant in answering. So Nora asked again. Hey guys. I mean I moved here to enjoy university experience. Tell me what is wrong and Nora said no dear We are scared to stay back any moment. After 4:00 PM strange things start happening. If you do that, you start seeing things and bad things can happen to you. We prefer leaving early to make sure we leave the campus gate and nearby well before time, she says. What? I don't believe. What are you saying? I mean, we are adults and educated. I don't believe in such things. Friend says whatever you believe, Promise me you will meet me by 2:45 PM outside your class and we will leave together. Mira , even though in disbelief, said she didn't wish to disagree with Nora and her friends and she agreed to do as Nora said. Mira also instructed, if in distress, to call any of her friends immediately and forwarded their numbers to her. She agreed. Mira was however, disappointed that Nora never told her while asking her to move. They all then went to their separate classes. Mira was a student of Fine Arts and a dreamer. Wherever she found unexplored beauty, she would just go exploring. One day in her class the teacher was telling them the art of shapes and sharing details. Mira being new, was seated at the last row in the room and was listening to the teacher carefully while on occasion looking outside the window and thinking, oh, how beautiful and amazing the university garden looks. If only I could sit there after classes and sketch in my sketchbook. How wonderful would that be? Mira could not resist and stop the teacher by raising her hand. She asked him. Excuse me Sir, this is a beautifully maintained garden in a university campus but no one is there. Is it because everyone is in classes or like no one has a free. Or are we simply not allowed in the garden? The teacher in a slow voice asked her. Are you new? You are new, aren't you? Mira said yes and you are not from here. Around here, I presume? Mira said yes. I am from North India Please. Teacher then said, Oh big city girl, are you well? I want you to remember, never believe your eyes when something looks too good to be true because it might not be there, it might not be true. The teacher then continued to say I want you to be safe so as long you are in the campus or within 5 kilometers radius from the campus, stay with the crowd is preferably known people, she said. OK Sir. She was disappointed but did not wish to argue with the teacher or create a bad impression. With this being her first day, the bell rings and she moves to her next class, slowly and slowly getting dulled with the thoughts of what her friend and the teacher said. During the day, the 2:45 bell rings and Mira stood outside her class waiting for Nora to join her so she could leave with her while people from other classes were leaving and passing by in the hallway. While waiting for her friend and looking towards the direction she was to come from she noticed a girl from the crowd was constantly staring at her and as soon as she came in front she stopped on the other side of the hall and kept staring.Mira couldnt stop looking at this strange girl, even though this crowd was passing through she felt being pulled into her eyes and even the gush of wind from the passing crowd did not break her eye contact.A few moments after that her friend Nora just came in front of her by surprise and said sorry sorry i got stuck in the crowd as everyone was trying to leave at the same time.Mira still in shock as if she was frozen did not respond. Nora shook her a little and asked hey you okay? what you staring at? is everything alright.Mira did not respond and jus bent to the side to aee if the girl was still there or not but she was gone.Nora in a rush took Mira by hand and said lets go we need to leave the campus we dont want to be late, its a long walk to the exit gate for the University.

Mira and Nora walk fast towards the gate while Mira was still wondering about the strange girl and the weird feeling and the way she kept staring at her

Chapter 1: *A Quiet Invitation*
Mira had never been one to take risks. Her life in the city was predictable, even mundane—a cycle of classes, part-time work, and nights spent gaming. It was through one of these late-night gaming sessions that she met Nora. At first, Nora was just another voice in her headset, someone with a quick wit and a knack for strategy. But over the months, their conversations deepened. They shared secrets, dreams, and fears. By the time Nora suggested Mira move to her small, isolated town to attend the local university, it felt like the next step in their friendship. “It’ll be perfect,” Nora had said, her voice brimming with excitement. “We’ll live together, go to the same university, and it’ll be like having a sister around all the time.” The idea tugged at Mira’s heart. She had always longed for a sister, someone who truly understood her. Against her better judgment, Mira agreed. Now, standing in the center of this tiny town, she wondered if she’d made a mistake. The train station had been nearly deserted when she arrived, its platform covered in a fine layer of dust. The town itself was picturesque, with cobblestone streets and old brick buildings. But it was too quiet. The kind of quiet that felt unnatural, oppressive. Mira had felt it the moment she stepped off the train—a strange heaviness in the air, as though the town were holding its breath. Nora had greeted her with a tight hug and a bright smile, her enthusiasm a stark contrast to the somber atmosphere. She’d whisked Mira away to the small apartment they were now sharing, chatting non-stop about the university, the town, and how excited she was to have Mira there. But as the hours passed, Mira couldn’t shake the unease growing in her chest. Something about the town felt off. She had noticed it on their way home—the way the locals seemed to avoid eye contact, their hurried movements, and the way their voices dropped to whispers when she passed. The next morning, Nora walked Mira to campus. The university was beautiful, with sprawling gardens and ivy-covered buildings. Yet, Mira noticed the same strange tension in the air. Students moved in clusters, their conversations muted. As they entered the main building, Nora introduced Mira to a group of her friends. “This is Mira,” Nora said, her arm looped through Mira’s. “She’s the one I’ve been telling you about!” Nora’s friends were polite enough, asking the usual questions about where Mira was from and what had brought her to their small town. Mira enjoyed answering at first, but she couldn’t help noticing how their eyes kept darting toward the clock on the wall. “What’s the rush?” Mira finally asked, trying to lighten the mood. Her question was met with uneasy laughter. One of Nora’s friends, a tall boy with glasses, scratched the back of his neck nervously. “It’s nothing,” he said. “Just… we like to leave campus early, that’s all.” “Why?” Mira pressed. The group exchanged uneasy glances. Finally, Nora sighed and leaned in close. “Mira, there’s something you need to know.” Her voice was barely above a whisper. “We don’t stay on campus after 4:00 PM.” “Why not?” “Because after 4:00… strange things start happening,” Nora said, her tone grave. Mira blinked, unsure if Nora was joking. “What kind of strange things?” Nora hesitated. “People see things. Hear things. And sometimes, people don’t make it back.” Mira laughed nervously. “Come on, Nora. That’s just a story to scare freshmen, right?” Nora didn’t laugh. “Promise me you’ll meet me by 3:45 after your classes. We’ll leave together.” Though skeptical, Mira agreed. She didn’t want to upset Nora on her first day. But the warning nagged at her as the day went on. Her first class was in the Fine Arts building, a stately structure with tall windows that let in streams of golden sunlight. Mira took a seat near the back and tried to focus, but her mind kept wandering. From her desk, she could see the university garden, its vibrant flowers and neatly trimmed hedges glistening under the afternoon sun. The garden was stunning, almost too perfect. Something about its symmetry and the way the sunlight seemed to linger there made it feel otherworldly. Unable to resist, Mira raised her hand during class. “Sir, is the garden open to students? I noticed it’s always empty.” The professor’s smile faltered. He adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat. “You’re new here, aren’t you?” Mira nodded. “Let me give you some advice,” he said slowly. “Not everything that looks beautiful is safe. And not everything you see can be trusted.” The cryptic response sent a shiver down her spine. She wanted to ask more, but the professor had already moved on with the lecture. By the time the bell rang for her next class, Mira felt a dull ache in her chest—a mixture of confusion, unease, and curiosity. The hours dragged, and as 3:45 approached, Mira packed her things quickly and stepped into the hallway. Students were already leaving in a steady stream, their faces tight with urgency. She stood near her classroom door, scanning the crowd for Nora. Then she saw her. At the far end of the hallway stood a girl. Her face was pale, almost unnaturally so, and her dark eyes locked onto Mira’s with an intensity that made her stomach churn. She wasn’t moving, wasn’t speaking—just staring. Mira tried to look away, but she couldn’t. It was as if those eyes had a hold on her, pulling her in. The noise of the hallway seemed to fade, leaving only a low ringing in her ears. “Mira!” Nora’s voice broke the spell. Mira turned sharply, finding Nora standing beside her, slightly out of breath. “Sorry, I got caught in the crowd,” Nora said, grabbing Mira’s arm. “Let’s go.” But Mira barely heard her. She glanced back down the hallway. The girl was gone. “What’s wrong?” Nora asked, her voice tinged with concern. “There was a girl,” Mira stammered. “She was just… standing there, staring at me.” Nora frowned and tightened her grip on Mira’s arm. “We need to leave. Now.” They hurried toward the campus gate, but Mira couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. Every rustle of leaves, every shadow seemed to carry a hidden threat. As they crossed the gate, Mira felt a weight lift slightly, but her unease remained. That night, as she lay in bed, Mira replayed the day’s events in her mind. The whispers, the professor’s warning, the strange girl in the hallway—it all felt like pieces of a puzzle she couldn’t quite fit together. Just as she was drifting off to sleep, her phone buzzed. Groggy, she reached for it, expecting a message from Nora. Instead, it was from an unknown number. Three words lit up the screen: *“Don’t look away.”* Her heart pounded as she stared at the message. Then she noticed the attachment—a photo. With trembling fingers, she opened it. It was a picture of her. Sitting in the university garden. She hadn’t been there.
