Chapter 4

*Morgan's POV*
I could hear beeping. It was a strange noise. I'd never heard anything like it in the dense forest, not even in the little oasis I called home. My eyelids were so heavy, and my body stiff. I tried to re-adjust myself and a groan escaped my lips when I tried to move my sore muscles. "Doctor Taylor, she's awake" I hear a gruff voice say.
 Oh no! Someone found me!
I shot upright just as this stranger was about to touch me. No! I scrambled until I fell, with a hard thump on my ass. Ow... Can't focus on that, I need to get out of here! I looked around me, a surface I'd never seen before, it was all smooth and white like Saph's Paws. I look up to the sun but it's not there. Something bright was in its place, a very faint buzzing sound was coming from it. What weird creature is that!? Is it going to eat me?
I backed as far away as I could but my back was pressed against that white surface. Is this a wall? Like I built for my shelter? A man came into view of my panicked stare, my breathing rapid and short as my eyes scanned this strange place for an escape. " “Hey, remember me?” I immediately looked towards the sound, he was the gruff voice from before. My eyes met his brown ones in an intense stare. I didn't dare move but his face as I studied him was familiar. He carried me here, and I let him. I weakly nodded my head.
"The lady you ran away from is the pack's doctor, her name's Doctor Taylor. She's not going to hurt you but she needs to make sure you're okay and she needs you on the bed to do that. Can you hop on the bed for me?" he extended a hand toward me and I took it shyly. His hand felt gigantic compared to my long slender hands. His hands felt rough as well. I stand with the man and he lets me climb onto the bed. The lady he said was a doctor came close to me again. She explained everything she was doing and I just watched the man next to me as she did what she needed. She'd tell me when the sharp scratch of a needle was coming but I didn't feel it. I was fully focused on the man who was here 'helping' me. I didn't trust him. Or the lady helping me. I committed his features to memory, his sharp jawline, which looked like you could cut meat with it, and his dark brown eyes, they almost looked black when the sun wasn't shining light upon them. Stubble along his jaw and above his lips, it stretched up until the stubble met his brown wavy hair that fell neatly just atop his ears. Doctor Taylor pulled me from my study saying words I didn't understand. What was malnourished? What was dehydrated? My head whipped around to watch her when she said food. There's food here! When the doctor came back in, she was carrying a weird thing with the food on top of it. When the smell wafted into my nostrils my mouth watered immensly. I eyed the food like it was my prey, following it as it came closer, and my stomach growled in anticipation. When it landed on my lap I couldn't stop myself, my stomach was hurting like I hadn't eaten for days, scooping the meat and strange plant in my hands. Why is it warm? Who cares? Scoffing it into my mouth, I didn't care who was around me. Very quickly all that was left on my lap was this cold, rectangle with a circle in the middle and two very strange metal things. I picked the metal things up to inspect them, I sniffed it, licked it and bit it. What was it for? I had so many questions. The doctor took the rectangle away from me and walked out of the room.
"What am I doing here?" I asked the man. He looked at me, and I couldn't place his expression. He looked like he genuinely felt sorry for me. "You didn't look very well when our warrior Ben found you. He was the wolf that caught you when you ran. You aren't a normal rogue. You would have been a rabid animal in human form if you were. We want to help. Maybe even give you a permanent place to stay if you wish."
His voice was soft but I didn't trust it. I trusted a man before. He was nice to me and then he ruined it all by betraying me. If it wasn't for Saph's strength I wouldn't have made it out alive...

Then another man entered. He smelled amazing, like fresh cherries. My favourite smell. Saph was jumping in my head, "Mate? I didn’t know we had one. He smells amazing though!" What is a mate? Why does he smell so good? I had a million questions and then I spiralled asking why this man was so important to Saph, why is she making this out to be okay? Panic rose in my chest, it was uncomfortably hot in the room, he called my name. My panic settled a tiny bit, why? He looked at the other man who carried me here. That was my chance to hide. I hid behind the bed again, peering through the bars of the bed. Staring at their legs and watching their movements. This is the end of me for sure! 2 men are here, that's bad. That's very bad! How many more are there?

The second man crouched on the other side of the bed, his amber eyes staring into my soul. I wanted to go to him but I was just too scared. Whatever a mate is, must be why I suddenly want to go into the arms of a man. " Hello, little mate." His deep and rough voice was somehow calming to me. My breathing steadied when he spoke.
He stared straight into my soul, speaking softly,“I am Kane, Alpha of this pack. I know your name is Morgan, will you come up onto the bed? I’d like to see you and talk.” His eyes didn't tell me he was lying. Saph was apprehensive either way. They looked sad. I didn't know why but I also didn't want to make the men angry. I slowly and cautiously climbed back onto the bed. Both men watching my every move. I felt really small. I wasn't but that's how I felt.
What's going to happen to me?
