The Chain

2667 Words
That night they stayed chained to the stake, Thorin had questioned Fen repeatedly about why he had blocked him, but the wolf would not answer other then to say he hadn't needed to witness that. It was an excuse that Thorin was not happy with by for the time being he let it slide, he was just happy to have his friend back. Whatever had happened though had his wolf worked up, he paced the length of the chain nonstop, and was onehudred percent not ok with being chained to a stake. Thorin didn't blame him, but he had also spent a lot longer being humiliated by the two men then Fen had. Fen let Thorin drift off to sleep, saying he would keep watch, but as the night dragged on he woke to Fen in a blind panic "What's going on?" He asked, but Fen just shook his head, "Can't be chained like this, I can't, please help Thorin" The poor wolf was shaking, his heart rate was way faster then it should have been. "Fen what's going on?" The mighty wolf paced back and forth whining in anguish, "Let me take over Fen." He pleaded but Fen would have none of it. "No I will protect." "Then let me have control your body, let me steer and you retreat." Fen stopped pacing and a low whine escaped him, "ok Thorin...I'm sorry." "It's okay Fen I got this bud." Thorin pushed forward, and Fen retreated into the depths of his mind, It was a strange feeling, being the driver of Fen's body, usually they made decisions together in wolf form, but now it was just Thorin. He could still feel Fen in the depths of his mind, the poor wolf was beside himself with anxiety, Thorin gently put a barrier between them, he could hear Fen but Fen could not see or hear him or the outside world. He placed Fen near the lake and left the wolf to self sooth while he tried to figure out their predicament. Thorin looked around, He was a wolf, this body was his alone for now, it was exhilarating. The chain on his neck was heavy, It was about 12 feet long leaving only so much room for pacing. Thorin sat down with a huff and looked at the sky, it was a clear night, and the stars shone brightly, it was beautiful. His breath fogged the air and he watched it with mild curiosity and boredom. He let out a small woof to watch the puff of fog in front of him, then it hit him...He was an alpha, young, yes, but still an alpha, his howl could reach hundreds of miles away, if there was a pack in the area he may be able to call them to him. Raising his head he let out a low mournful howl, it came from deep within his chest and he could hear it echoing through the thick pines surrounding him. He continued, allowing his howl to grow louder, until the night was filled with the sounds of his cry's for assistance. The screen door slammed and his howl trailed off as Tyr and Jason approached. "Not many packs within range sad to say." Jason lit a cigarette and took a long drag. Thorin c****d his head, he didn't know many werewolves who smoked. "It's a nasty habit." Jason stated, but didn't make a move to put it out. "Why don't you give control back to our boy, I'm tiered of the midnight opera." Thorin smirked internally, he was in control, He sat down and stared at the two men, they returned his gaze for a long while no one said anything. Tyr suddenly stepped forward and looked him right in the eye, "That is the boy." He stated, Jason looked over at him and the two seemed to exchange words. Mind link perhaps. If that was the case they where in the same pack. "Thorin, can you shift back?" Jason asked after a moment. Thorin was pretty sure he could, but why he would want to, or do anything these fuckers said was beyond him. He just snorted in response and growled, Jason raised a brow before dropping his cigarette and putting it out with the toe of his boot. "Are you familiar with shifter syndrome?" Thorin just blinked, Jason seemed to take that as a no. " Shifter syndrome is what happens when a werewolf stays in wolf form for too long, it causes muscle paralysis and wasting. often it can last for days." Oof, Thorin hoped he was bluffing, that didn't sound like fun, "Since you seem to. be the only one in there, your taking the brunt of everything, every howl, every tug on that chain, every muscle that Fen would normally move, you are moving yourself...But you are used to moving your human form, and maintaining full control like that will take a toll on your body, ya might not feel it now but give it a few hours." Lovely, he thought, he had felt Fen listening in on the conversation, "He is right." The wolf stated, and retreated again. "Not to mention...how long has it been since you've eaten, as a wolf, your gonna need more food kiddo." Shit, as if on que his belly grumbled, "Fen can you shift us back?" Fen came forward pushing Thorin back to the 'passenger' seat as he called it, and Thorin felt him recede, his bones reshaped themselves and his fur became skin leaving him naked and cold...but also entirely zapped of strength and energy. "I'd bet if there's any packs nearby they are on their way now." He managed to spit, he had done what he set out to do, he called for help...now he just had to wait. Visitor POV She had been stalking a rabbit when an ear piercing, eeiry howl filled the night, the rabbit escaped but she was left completely dumbfounded. "Was that...?" Vida crouched listening as it came again, "It is coming from the camp yes." "It sounds so sad." "You would be too if you where in that boys shoes." The fox turned and started heading into he direction of the mournful howls. "Curiosity killed the cat." Vida lectured, but she knew that her fox was just as curious. Why was the boy in wolf form now? Would anyone answer his call? Why had the two werewolves allowed him to call for help? Since the last encounter with the boy she had stayed in the area, reluctant to leave him, she didn't know why but she was drawn to him. Padding softly through the forest she came up on the clearing and peered out from behind a tree, a massive wolf sat in the center of the clearing, his coat was a mixture of black and silver, and he had what appeared to be a chain around his neck tethering him to a post. Vida began to feel uneasy and urged her to leave but she ignored her fox. He was beautiful, breathtaking even, he was probably the size of a horse, and the boy was only six years old. He let out a low mournful howls and she felt her fur stand on end, his bottom lip quivered as he sang , once again her heart was breaking for this boy she didn't even know. "We should leave I don't like this." Vida urged, she was about to give in when the screen door to the cabin opened and two men walked out, the whole situations was odd to say the least, what was even more strange was that it seemed like the men actually cared for the boy. After a while he changed back into human form and collapsed on the ground. she held back a whine as the men unhooked him from the chain and took him into the long cabin house. "At least the poor kid gets to sleep inside tonight." Vida whispered and she nodded in agreement. Suddenly her hair stood up, "Danger!" Vida screamed, she spun around and let out a screech as a massive wolf melted from the shadows. she shot off like a bullet, dodging past the wolf, her agility was far better then his as they raced through the woods. Vida took over as the soared over a creek "Get to the den!" She screamed internally and Vida acknowledged. The wolf was hot on their heels as they came around the bend that led to the den, he couldn't fit in there but getting in there before he got them was going to be the tricky part, the den was in sight Vida poured all she had into those last couple of bounds and then launched herself at the opening. Sudden impact in her side sent them sprawling, and Vida screeched in pain as the hit the rocks. They got slowly to their feet and she couldn't help but quiver in fear as she looked at the two wolves standing over her. They where bothe much larger then regular wolves, one was solid black, and the other was a dark brown and black. The Black one shifted into the younger man she had seen earlier and smiled at her. "Hello little fox." He smiled. Thorin POV A low groan escaped his lips as he opened his eyes, he stared at the ceiling...puzzled, where was he? He tried reaching out to Fen, but he wasn't answering, and no matter how hard he searched he couldnt find any trace of his wolf. He want overly surprised by that, he had been unconscious for God knows how long, who knew what they had done. That thought send a shiver down his spine as he sat up slowly, Shifter syndrome he thought to himself as his body scared at him, He would have to be careful of that in the future. A scream pierced the air and he was on his feet in an instant, It sounded human, like a girl screaming, he looked around, he was in a small bedroom no bigger then a prison cell, the window on the far side of the room had bars and it was welded s**t from all appearances. he tested it just to be sure and wasn't shocked to find it wouldn't open. there was a small cot, which was pushed up against the side of the room and a toilet, which also functioned as a sink apparently. The scream came again and on instinct he slammed himself into the door, every hair was up and every bone in his body was forcing him towards the sound of that scream. "Hey!" He yelled at the top of his lungs, and slammed himself against the door again. No response. "Let me out!" He yelled again and slammed himself against the door harder this time, the next time he got a running start but the door still didn't budge. "Jason!" He screamed, "Tyr, where are you bastards!" No matter where they where, what they were doing, all it took was a cuss word and the wrath of Tyr would decend. The door swung open and Tyr stood there, then the backhand came, he had been prepared for it, sort of, but he had expected a bit more time before it happened. Holding his cheek he looked past the man, "What's going on?" "None of your business, get dressed you got choices to make." Thorin looked down at himself and blushed, he was naked, slamming the door he looked around the room and found a pile of clothes crumpled at the end of his bed. He pulled on the pair of shorts and a plain grey tee-shirt. He looked around for shoes but didn't see any, probably to keep him from running. He opened the door and strapped outside, Tyr's hand came down on his shoulder making him jump, the man steered him towards the fire. Once they got there he pushed him down on the log and sat opposite to him. "Where's Jason?" he asked, but Tyr only grunted. Sudden movement by the kennels drew his eyes and he squinted, there was someone in there. Jumping to his feet he rushed to the kennels, Tyr made no move to stop him but he could feel his gaze on him. Laying on the floor of the kennel was a girl about his age, she was unconscious, but whimpering. "Someone you know?" Jason's voice made ehim spin around, "No" he blurted out, he didn't know her but why did he feel so damn guilty. Jason raised a brow and motioned for him to come sit down by the fire. Thorin glanced at the girl one more time and walked over sitting opposite to him. "Who is she?" he asked "That's what we are trying to find out, she's a Kitsune, but There are no clans in this area so we don't know what she's doing out here." Thorin stood up suddenly, "A Kitsune?!" His heart fluttered as he tried to look at her again, He thought back to that night, he had seen a fox, she had touched him...was it her? was this his fault? "Why did you capture her she didnt do anything wrong?" He asked, Jason and Tyr exchanged a look, in an instant Tyr had twisted his arm behind his back, he yelped in pain, Jason grabbed his jaw in his hand and forced eye contact. "Your being awfully suspicious kiddo, how do you know her." "I don't" he screamed, Tyr increased the pressure and he screamed again in pain, "I'm telling you the truth I don't know her!" Jason studied him for a second and then nodded to Tyr who released him, "Y'all are f*****g dickwads." he spat, he managed to dodge the first blow much to his pleasure, but that made things a million times worse. Jason grabbed him by the front of his shirt and slammed him on the ground, he kept a foot on him while he sat back down. Then to his disbelieve he took out a knife and started peeling an apple. "You are getting more and more arrogant, and quiet frankly unpleasant to be around." Jason hissed, his eyes where ablaze, and the irritation was evident. "Really me? Y'all are the ones with the f*****g problem." The blow didn't come immediately, he wished it had cus it would've just been a backhand like usual, instead Thorin watched in horror as Tyr took off his belt and sent a lash over his still wounded back. He sceamed in agony as Tyr landed two more blows, tears leaking from his eyes. "There it is, now he gets it, it's not a game anymore, the pain is real, and so are the punishments." Jason lifted his foot and rolled him away towards the fire, Thorin stayed on the ground trying to rein himself in. Both men watched him as he sat up "We seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot, you think we won't hurt you, at least not bad...your wrong boy." Jason spit a peice of apple peel into the fire and looked him dead in the eye. "That wolf you got, He's a real mean one, best you get strong enough to handle him yea?" "What the..." he stopped himself as he saw Tyr stand up, taking a deep breath he tried again, "What do you mean?" "Nothing more then that, If you don't control that wolf, He will control you, we are here to help you with that, but we are not your friends, we will hurt you, because we can, and you will stay here because you cannot escape." Jason nodded in the direction of the girl, "And whoever that girl is to you, we will find out." Tyr stood up and motioned for him to follow, Thorin got to his feet, "Oh and Thorin..." The boy turned to look at Jason who winked at him. "Happy birthday."
