Chapter 8 A Big Favor

1181 Words
Norman went up and helped Rachel to her feet. Within a minute, Rachel's delicate little face was flushed. The man she had been in love with for years was so close to her! Norman put his hand on her arm, and she could feel the warmth of Norman's fingertips. Rachel bet she was dreaming. After all, Rachel had this dream countless times in high school. In the dream, Norman was gentle to her and often held her hand. The warm feeling in the dream was very similar to the present one. Fearing that this was just another dream, Rachel reached out a hand and pinched her leg. The pain came over her. Well, it was real. Rachel was thrilled. She met the man of her dreams again after many years. He was still breathtakingly handsome. Sated, she stared at Norman in a trance and grinned at him. Norman could not help but wonder if the girl's head had been knocked. Norman was worried when he saw her silly expression. He quickly shook his hand in front of Rachel's eyes. "Are you sure you're all right? " Norman asked her again. It would be nice if she were okay. In case something happened to her, Norman felt he couldn't hit and run. He had to be responsible for her. "Yeah, I'm fine." Sorry, I was being frivolous.   Rachel waved her hand quickly. She knew that she was being frivolous in his presence, and felt a little ashamed. Being such a real bust, she was still overjoyed to see Norman after all these years. "What are you doing here?" To cover up her gaffe, Rachel voluntarily changed the subject. Norman also wanted to ask her why she's in the hospital. But she asked first. He had to confess. Norman was not a womanizing man, but he had a soft spot for good-looking people. Besides, who would say no to someone pretty? Norman told Rachel his father fell ill in the hospital and the attending doctor was giving him a hard time, so he was on his way to the hospital's head when he accidentally bumped into her. "Are you here to see someone?" Norman asks Rachel. "And let me tell you," he warned Rachel before she could answer him. The director of the respiratory department, surnamed Bush, as a doctor, had no medical ethics. "if the patient you are visiting is in that department, you must not go to Mr. Bush for treatment." "Is it true what you said?" Rachel confirmed to him. "Of course, I am the victim. I just had a fight with Mr. Bush. He is unreasonable. " "Come with me." Rachel held on to the corner of his coat until she reached the President's door. "Dad, may I come in?" "Rachel asked the people inside. Norman looked up and saw the sign for the President's office. If Rachel didn't go to the wrong door, she would be the President's daughter.     Riding the President's coattails? Norman was stoked "Come in." Her father's voice was full of authority. Rachel turned to signal to Norman and they went inside together. "Dad, I'd like you to meet Norman. We went to high school together." "Norman, my father is the president of this hospital. Tell him again what you have told me, and he will do you justice." Norman nodded and told the story again. "How can this be? This is really outrageous" Rachel's dad sat down in his chair and tapped the table in front of him. "You may rest assured that what Mr. Bush has done will be taken seriously by me according to the rules of the hospital." "Rachel, I'll leave it to you to deal with your classmate's father." "Okay, dad, I'll take Norman to the ward first." "Go ahead." Rachel then took Norman to the intensive care unit on the top floor of the hospital. The people who could afford such wards must be rich or powerful Without Rachel, a normal family like the Norman family would not have been able to live in a ward like this. The ward was spacious and bright, with a king-size bed, French Windows, a full range of medical facilities, and special nurses to accompany patients. "Wouldn't that be too great?" Although Norman wanted to give what's best for his family, his job was at risk right now, and his family was going through bankruptcy. He was worried that he would not be able to afford a night in such a ward. "All we want is to make your father comfortable." "Well."    "Don't worry, just think of it as the hospital's compensation for unfair treatment of you guys, okay?" Rachel tilted her head, smiled, and asked for his opinion, as cute as she could be. Norman almost succumbed to her gentleness. Rachel's offer was so overwhelming that it was impossible for him to refuse. "Thank you, Rachel." "Don't Mention It. We are friends. " Rachel was so happy that she had a chance to do something for her crush. "That's settled. Now let's go down together and fetch your father up." "All right! " At last, they broke free of the narrow and noisy passage. As soon as he moved into the intensive care unit, Baron's frown began to unfurl. Mary was in tears. She held Rachel's hand tightly and said thank you. Lily quietly gave her brother a thumbs-up. She thought her brother was too awesome. He was able to get such a high-class ward, and there was a beautiful lady busy for him. "Is she another sister-in-law of me?" Lily whispered to her brother. "Nonsense. Just a high schoolmate." Norman rolled his eyes at her. At this moment, Norman felt more at ease than ever before. For the first time in all these years, he felt that he had done something for his family, and he felt proud. "Norman, stay in peace in this ward. If you need anything, you can come to my dad's office." Rachel didn't want to leave so early. But she had other business to call on her father today. "Thank you, for everything. I don't know how to repay you." "How about a dinner some other time?" Rachel still wanted a chance to spend some time with Norman. "All right, it's a deal! "Bye." Rachel waved her hand at Norman. As she approached the elevator, she suddenly thought of something and hurried back. "Hey, Norman! It just occurred to me that there is a high school reunion tonight. Why don't you come with me?" "Where is it?" Norman was afraid to go too far in case his father had an emergency and he wouldn't be able to show up in time. "Don't worry, it's not far from here, a few minutes drive." "All right then! " Norman really didn't want to go to the party. But it was Rachel who invited him. She had just done him such a favor that she deserved a yes. "That's a deal, then. I'll see you tonight!" Rachel was tickled pink at the thought of spending an evening with Norman.
