Chapter 10

Cain's POV

"How incompetent are you really? It was one simple thing, I mean even a ten year old could do this right!" I said looking at the nerdy woman standing in front of me.

Her dress so odd, her hair black but messy,her hands constantly fidgeting at my remarks, her thin lips shuddering out of fear and her glasses were almost ready to break. What she did next totally caught me off guard..

"No...no...no. Don't cry!!" I said grabbing the telephone and calling David..

Within minutes, David was in my office escorting the woman out.

"I want her gone, David! Find me another." I lashed out on him.

"Sir, she's the fifth one this week. I'm afraid I can't find anyone else. You know better than I, that only Emma Millers is capable of this job," he said his eyebrows raised waiting for me to say something.

One month! One month till I fired Millers for insulting me, for making me look like a bad son, for making me seem like the worst boss in the history of the world..

"No, not Millers!" I said with finality settling myself in the leather chair, a fountain pen in hand.

"Sir, you just made a 24 yr old woman cry, she would have wet her pants if I hadn't arrive. Sorry to say but only Millers can tolerate your s**t," he said before hurriedly going out of my office.

I looked around my table, papers disorganized and on top of each other like a teen's summer homework! The heavy file metal cabinet that was once neat had files threatening to pop at anytime.

Sad to say, but I needed Millers, the shareholders too had asked a lot about her, uncle Ben too, but I had to lie to him that she was on leave!

"You better be worth it, Millers!" I said looking at the sheet of paper with her home address on it.

Can't believe I was doing this!

Emma's POV

I walked down the busy street of New York, nothing beats best than the sound of cars honking, taxi drivers complaining of how much traffic there is, interns rushing to some job offers they missed and finally women such as myself, jobless, moving from one building to another, hoping to find a nice earning job!

It's been one month since the incident in Sydney, Cain Powers, true to his words kicked me out of Power Corp and made it sure that no company would hire me.

What can I say! I tried, Xavier, I tried but your son is something else.....What can I say life is hard at times, for people like us who struggle to survive, people like us who skip meals at times just to get food on the table for our families, people like us who lack rich and pompous relatives to support us, people like us who are considered as good for nothings in the eyes of society....

I was running low on cash, mom needed her meds, John needed some cash for his school trip and Ace as strong as he tried to be, needed some money for college. Every job I tried was a bummer, it was either there was no vacancy or we can't hire you, courtesy of Cain Powers......

I raised my head over to the coffee shop standing in front of me, this was my only hope, Jada was my only hope! I pushed the door open, my eyes scanning for Jada among the customers and employees.......

A few minutes later, I was nearly crying begging Jada for a job, I needed it so bad. Fortunately she had an opening for a waitress, so I took the job. Tommorow was gonna be a new day, a new day, a new job as a waitress not quite what I expected but it was still a job!

Later that evening

"You did what?" Ace asked his eyes wide, his fork stabbing the table cloth. I could tell he was angry, so was mom and John but they both decided to have a quiet dinner.

"Yeah, Ace! I took the job, it's not that bad as you think and perhaps the owner is a friend of mine," I said trying to assure him that the job wasn't that bad.

"Whatever, Em....you don't have to be a waitress, damn it! I'll quit college, if I have to!"Ace said reaching for my hand from across the table.

"No Ace! We already talked about this, no one is quiting school, I got this!"i said dropping my fork on the dinner table, this had gone on for a while, Ace trying to shoulder all the burdens we had at home, but I wouldn't let him, that was my responsibility!!

"But Em this ain't right, I should be helping you in this...",he insisted, his strands of black hair falling on his forehead.

"Mom? Would you please explain it to him,"I looked over to mom who for the next five minutes had tried to avoid being dragged into this.

"Honey, Ace has a point, you've been overworking yourself lately. Wasn't it last month you broke your leg and didn't tell us?" Yeah I lied that I had accidentally tripped on the stairs and fell, it was better than bringing the whole 'Alexander ran me over thing'..

"Exactly, Ma. Tell her," Ace said a smirk forming on his face as if to show that he had won!!

We continued nibbling our food, John for some reason remained silent before opening his mouth and shouting," Ace has a girlfriend!!"

"Aaargh really John? " Ace asked giving John the death glare.

"What? The secret was too big to keep!," he said raising his hands in the air before getting back to his plate.

This two were my joy, John was two years younger than Ace but they both acted like kids!!

"Oooh really now? Who is she?..." Hardly had I finished my words when we all heard our old doorbell ring, let's say it had been quite a while before we got visitors....

I rushed for the door, since we had no peep hole as rich guys do, I had to open the door slightly....coming face to face with him!!

"Em, who is it?" John asked his head directed towards me from across the table, trying to get a glimpse of our late night visitor.

"No one, absolutely no one!"
