Chapter One
Brenda’s POV.
A tiny shriek escaped my lips, as I felt my cheek burning up in excitement. I turned around in time just to see Cecilia glaring at me with curiosity etched on her forehead.
“What’s it?” Cecilia asked, with confusion written all over her face.
“Gary just called asking me to meet him in Diamond’s Restaurant,” I said, and a light smile crept on her lips.
“Could it be what I’m thinking?” She asked smiling, and I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me what she was thinking because I was thinking about the same thing too.
“What if he’s about to propose?” We both chorused, and a loud laughter erupted.
I was so happy, as I felt my cheek heating up—if it was what I was thinking that was about to happen, then Gary was the sweetest man on earth because this was our sixth anniversary.
I’ve waited for this moment all my life, and finally seeing this day makes me so happy.
“Soon to be Mrs Brinkley,” Cecilia teased, bringing me out of my thoughts—and I blushed slightly.
“Go, girl! It’s not easy,” She exclaimed, making me giggle excitedly.
“I need to dress up,” I said, but she stopped me with her index finger.
“You need to doll up,” She corrected, and with that, she pulled me towards my room smiling widely.
An hour later, Cecilia was done applying makeup on my face—so I decided to check myself out in the mirror, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I looked so much different and beautiful—making my heart leap in joy.
“You look breathtaking!” Cecilia gushed the moment I stood in front of the mirror.
“Thanks,” I said with a wide smile plastered on my lips.
I walked to my closet and brought out a red short-flair dress with golden embroideries on the waistline of the dress. It was an off-shoulder hand with little golden embroidery designs on it.
It was superb, but it looked more beautiful on me.
“Gosh, give me a 360 turn,” I heard Cecilia say as a loud gasp accompanied it.
“You look exceptionally beautiful, and I’m sure that you’ll be the only lady that will capture Gary’s interest tonight,” She said, and the statement made my heart leap with joy.
“You need to get going. You know it’s improper for you to keep a man waiting,” Cecilia said, whispering the last part with a mischievous smile.
“Gosh,” I groaned facepalming myself, as I strapped my heels.
As soon as I was done, I walked out of the room with Cecilia following me closely.
“Bye,” She said, as soon as I stepped out of the house which I returned with a smile.
I couldn’t breathe properly as I was so excited—I just couldn’t believe that the day I waited all my life was finally here.
I waved down a cab with just a word, “Take me to Diamond’s restaurant,”
After what seemed like forever, the cab suddenly stopped in front of Diamond’s restaurant.
I breathed deeply before alighting the cab, also stretching a five-dollar note to the driver. “Keep the change,” I said, and without waiting for a response from him—I turned and went straight into the restaurant.
Just as I entered the restaurant, I met a shocker waiting for me. My eyes caught sight of Gary with someone—a lady!
“What in the world is going on?” I wondered as I stood at the entrance of the restaurant looking at them as I felt my heart do multiple flips.
None of them noticed my presence as they were busy exchanging flirtatious smiles, and the way they held their hands irked me.
“Could it be that she’s his sister?” I thought, then shrugged and walked slowly towards them.
“Gary!” I called out, but his reaction wasn’t something I was expecting.
He wore a very cold expression, and the next thing he said was, “You’re finally here, Brenda,”
“What was going on?” I wondered as I scratched my hands nervously.
In all my six years of being in a relationship with Gary, he has never called me by my name—so hearing it now pained me to the core.
“So she’s the Brenda?” The lady beside him asked with a smirk on her face.
I tried hard to control the urge of screaming at the top of my lungs asking Gary who the lady was.
“Yes baby,” He flashed her a smile, a beautiful smile that he had never flashed at me before.
“Baby?” I muttered absentmindedly.....I didn’t even know I had said it out loud until he replied me with a “Yes,”
“I called you here to officially tell you that it’s over between us,” He dropped the bombshell, and I felt my eyes widen in shock.
“What?” I couldn’t believe my ears...as I felt he was joking. “You need to stop cracking this kind of joke, it’s too expensive Gary,” I said, and he frowned at me before staring at the girl who looked at me weirdly.
“He’s not joking with you dear, he’s mine now—so I suggest you back off to avoid entering my black book,” The ugly loafer said, as I began to wonder if I was dreaming because I couldn’t fathom what he must have seen in her.
“I’m not sorry, but I’ve found someone else who makes me feel things that you never could,” He said, shredding my heart into pieces.
“Please Gary, don’t do this to me,” I pleaded, as tears streamed down my face.
“You can’t just leave me a six-year relationship for a lady you have no history with,” I said, still crying loudly.
“Of course, I do have a history with her because she’s met my parents already,” He dropped the bombshell, as I stared at him shocked.
He has never taken me to his house, not to talk more of seeing his parents—but he has done so with another lady.
“I’m moving on Brenda, and there’s nothing you can do about it,” He said standing from the seat and taking the lady’s hand in his.
“I’d suggest you do the same too,” He said and walked out—brushing his shoulder against mine.
My knees weakened, and I dropped to the floor as my tears clouded my sight—making it blurry.
“Why is all these happening to me?”
