Tyde’s P.O.V.
I hardly slept last night, how could I after realizing I met a real mermaid. I’m excited and confused at the same time; I mean did dad know they were real all this time… Did he even go to war; is he on a secret mission somewhere…? I need answers but I have no idea where to get them, after all, I doubt that mermaid will ever come back, she seemed terrified. If I asked Uncle Arthur he’d think I’ve gone insane and possibly have me committed to an asylum somewhere. And I know Aunt Mel and Em would be thrilled about my absence.
I freshened up and went downstairs for breakfast before starting my chores. As soon as I got there Em as usual started complaining about why she couldn’t help with anything and Aunt Mel once again offered me the extra tasks knowing I would accept them without complaining.
Uncle Arthur had already left for work, so he couldn’t object but I honestly don’t mind either, the busier I am the less confrontation there is between us and I consider time alone as a win for me; not that I’d ever let them find out.
After breakfast, I went to work, my last stop was the grandfather clock that was in the living room. After the glass was cleaned I could see my reflection and man was I a mess. I took a much-needed shower and decided to try my luck at the old dock near the church.
When I got there it was just as I suspected, there was no one there. I’m not sure how long I was asleep when I heard talking coming from a nearby cave. It sounded like two people arguing. When I got close enough to see who they were I got the shock of my life.
Right in front of me as clear a day I saw them; the mermaid from the day before and a merman. Her tail looks beautiful swaying in the crystal clear water. It Orange with a hint of yellow forming patterns all over it. Her hair a beautiful cherry blond with a few pink streaks.
The merman’s tail is a shade of green with white patterns all over and his hair the darkest shade of black I’ve ever seen. I was so distracted by them that I didn’t see where I was going and before I knew it I was falling into the water.
The minute I landed in the water, out of nowhere current started dragging me out of the cave towards a growing whirlpool with a blinding light in its core. I felt my body in agony; it was like my bones were breaking, stretching, and rearranging themselves while I was fighting my way away from the sure doom that waited in the swirling pool of death.
Suddenly I found myself swimming faster and farther away with ease, but as if it was too easy I saw two huge sharks coming out of the whirlpool and headed straight towards me, as soon as they got too close for comfort I raised my hands in an attempt to shield myself and in my panic I swear my hands were glowing and then [BOOM] the sharks became chunks of meat and the whirlpool disappeared.
I immediately felt like I weighed a ton and found my eyes closing despite my efforts to keep them open. The last things I saw, were the floating chunks and a tail swaying back and forth beneath me.
Sym’s P.O.V.
Coralia and I were just devising a plan to lure the human into the water after seeing her asleep near the beach when we heard a big splash behind us. At first, I wasn’t sure what it was but then the water went crazy and started dragging whatever it was out to sea, once it was out in the clear I could see the human fighting against the current that was pulling her towards a mysterious whirlpool.
Being a merman I’ve seen my fair share of oceanic disasters but this one was different. It almost seemed like it appeared just for her. If that isn’t strange enough it had a glowing light coming from its core which I’ve never seen or heard of before.
Without even realizing I found myself being pulled towards her. For some strange reason, I felt the need to protect her like she was a missing part of me I never realized wasn’t there. By the time I got to the clearing, I was met with the biggest surprise of my life.
In her agony, she transformed; where her legs were she now had a tail so powerful she could swim out of the whirlpool with ease. By the time she did two of the biggest sharks I’d ever seen came out and swam towards her by the time they were in arms reach she raised her hands that were now glowing and blew the sharks into chunks of meat and then the whirlpool vanished.
I was in shock but then I notice Coralia swimming towards a clearing near the weak and fainting creature that had done what no known mermaid has ever done before. By the time we got to her, she was out, so we took her back to our place hoping to avoid prying eyes and possible danger. After all everything today was strange and I couldn’t help but feel it’s only the beginning.
