Chapter 3: The New Me

943 Words
Sym’s P.O.V.   She was the most beautiful creature I’d ever seen in my life. She was majestic, with what appeared to be a crown made of the rarest pearls on her head. Her tail was a beautiful shade of ocean blue with gems all over it; her hair was a white as the moon above but her unique feature was her wings.  On her right arm, she has a tribal symbol that I recognize from one of the ancient drawings in Madam Ara’s cave that contained the stories and accounts of our kind's birth and creation. But I’ve never seen it on any mermaid especially not where our tribal marks are meant to go during our ‘Ceremony of Aquata’ where mermaids get marked as a sign of adulthood. I couldn’t help myself but for some strange reason, I felt the need to protect her with my life even though we just met. I know she isn’t my mate so why do I feel this way? I should go talk to Madam Ara about this.      Coralia’s P.O.V.   I knew there was something strange about this creature. First, I’ve never heard of any human who was willing to help my kind let alone can understand us, and once again I was right; however, after having the most confusing thing happen before my eyes and a million questions forming in my mind I had to admit I was impressed by this mysterious creature before me. My only concern about her is what she will do when she wakes up. I am having mixed feelings about her, I feel this instinctual need to protect her but her aura is so strong I fear her being an enemy and not a friend.  It’s been a while since Sym left us, and although there is no sign of her waking up. I am still on edge about being here alone with her. It’s almost like we’re being watched and the feeling is sending chills down my spine. After a few hours alone and no sign of her waking up, I decided to see if I could figure out anything about who or what she might be because she didn’t look like any mermaid I’ve seen before not to mention she has powers, our healers have powers and it still can’t measure up to what she displayed earlier.     Tyde’s P.O.V.   [Dreaming] “Mom, dad I just had the weirdest dream. I dreamt I was a mermaid and that I killed two giant sharks that attacked me by just raising my hands.” “That was a weird dream princess, but it’s just a dream after all mermaids don’t exist.” Chuckled Fynn.  “I have to agree with your father sweetie. Don’t think about it too much and come to have your breakfast before leaving.” Said Marin.  That’s strange, dad doesn’t believe in mermaids... he was the one who made me believe they were real. And why does everything feel out of place? I don’t recognize this house, and we haven’t had a meal together since dad went away. Wait, dad went away, and we haven’t seen him since. Mom… oh, mom… she’s dead. This isn’t real… this isn’t real! “This isn’t real!” I managed to whisper before waking up. I’m not sure how long I was out for but I feel like that nap was the most bizarre dream I’ve had in my life. First I was swept away by strong current then I killed two sharks and finally I became a mermaid. If that’s not crazy then I don’t know what is.  After rubbing my head and forcing myself out of bed that suddenly felt as hard as a rock, I opened my eyes and realized I had no idea where I was. I don’t recognize this room and why is everything so gloomy and rustic. There was no wardrobe for storage of any kind; just a series of odd-looking items. After looking around to see if I could figure out where I was I passed a mirror and there it was my bizarre dream was still happening I have a tail.  I couldn’t bring myself to move as I stared at myself in the mirror, I took in all the details of my new appearance that seemed so foreign to me to a point where I felt like I was looking at someone else’s reflection. My once dark curls were now as white as snow, where my legs were I now have a massive tail, my neatly groomed nails looked like claws, floating behind me were what looked like wings, I had a crown on my head and my eyes were as clear as the ocean.  As soon as I was coming to terms with my new reality I was hit by a wave of questions and uncertainty but before I could calm myself I heard voices approaching the door. So I grabbed the first thing I could find to defend myself if I had to. When they opened the door everyone was in shock. I was surprised to see the two mermaids from earlier, and they were shocked to see me awake.   “You’re awake!” said the mermaid to me in a friendly tone. “I am, but where am I and who are you? I asked “You’re in my home, my name is Sym and this is my sister Coralia.” “What’s your name?” Sym asked. “My name is Tyde and I’d love it if one of you could tell me what’s…” I said before being cut off. “We’re sure you have as many questions as we do, so if you don’t mind we’d like to take you to see someone who might have the answers we are all looking for.” Interrupted Coralia “Fine, as long as I can get answers I’ll go,” I replied.
