CHAPTER 3

RHEA I opened my eyes, my face twisted in pain from the direct light on my eyes. I could hear murmuring and shouts. The place seemed to be busy and bustling, and I looked around to make sense of where I was. It was a bare room painted yellow. Other bodies lay on the floor with their hands tied, and I finally noticed mine was also bound. I had no idea if they were dead or alive. “Your hair,” a girl whispered beside me, alarming me. I turned to look at her. She had short, cropped hair that was a mess with a pair of lively eyes. Something about her did not smell right. She smelled almost… “Human,” I looked at her in surprise. I haven’t been this close to one, ever. Human territory was a long way away from werewolf packs. “Hi, wolf. My name is Lily,” she said. She was way too calm, like we hadn’t been kidnapped. “That, over there, is Caleb,” she used her mouth to point. I followed her eyes and came face to face with the most beautiful face I’ve ever seen. He looked gorgeous with pale skin and big eyes. I could smell that he was an omega like me. He smelled like flowers and vanilla. “My name is Rhea. Where are we?” I asked, still nervous. My head was aching, and my body was trembling a bit from adrenaline. “This is Ashville. Lycan territory,” Lily explained. “Lycan Territory,” I screamed. “Don’t be so loud. You don’t want the handler in here,” Lily shushed me. What was I doing in Asheville? What about my pack? My parents, Lucien. At the thought of my parents, my eyes began burning. “Oh, I think we are at the black market,” Lily continued her explanation. “Black market? What is that?” “A place for buying and selling,” Lily said with a smile. How the hell does she know all of this? I looked around, trying to look for a means to escape. “Don’t bother. We won’t be able to escape,” Caleb said, frowning. His aura stank with depression. “How did you get here?” I asked them. They were currently my only allies in this unfamiliar place. “I ran away from my arranged marriage and was having fun when my drink was laced with drugs. So here I am.” I looked at Lily and wasn’t very much surprised. She looked carefree, like she was on a holiday. “My father sold me,” Caleb’s quiet voice came through. “What?” Lily and I shouted at once. We were shocked. How could his parents not want such a beautiful soul? “What about you, red hair?” Lily asked. “My parents were killed by rogues, and I was knocked out,” I tried to explain. “We need to stick together and think of a way to leave this place,” Lily said, looking at the two of us. “That is almost impossible. Lycan territory isn’t like werewolf packs or the human world. Security is tighter here,” Caleb said, shaking his head. “So what do we do?” I whispered, tears filling my eyes, and for the first time in my life, I felt helpless. **** It’s been three days since I woke up, and I have become friends with Caleb and Lily. They didn’t let us out of the room, so we had no idea what the place looked like or how to leave. “Wake up, people,” the handler shouted as he opened the door with force. He was a short, bald man with a long scar across his face. Before everyone could register what was happening, water was sprayed on us from a hose like we were dogs. “If anyone tries to run when we lead you outside to get cleaned up, you will be shot,” he fired a shot up in the air, driving his point. “The gun is loaded with lead. Very special for our kind,” he said with a creepy smile like he was enjoying the view of trembling bodies. “Stay together,” Lily whispered. We were led to a hall to take a shower and clean up. “Take off your clothes,” the handler said, startling everyone. He didn’t care that they were women and men huddled together or that he was with five other bulky men who stood at the entrance. “Now!” he yelled. “Or do you need help?” His words jerked everyone awake, and they started removing their clothes. I looked at Lily with red eyes, feeling humiliated. Lily gripped my hands tightly and whispered. “Let’s undress.” Caleb stood in front of us, shielding us from others' view. Fortunately, we were huddled at a corner, a blind spot. Finally, we had it done and were given new clothes that got my cheeks burning. “What the hell is this?” Lily shrieked silently. I could feel her rebellious nature coming through. “Just wear it,” Caleb's eyes pleaded. We all knew we couldn’t afford any attention on us. It was like a piece of rag; the dress material was so sheer that I could see Lily’s n****e through it. We were herded to an open balcony and told to sit on the floor. “I think there is some mechanism here,” Lily said with a look of interest. “No s**t,” Caleb sighed, pushing his hair away from his face. Indeed, the floor began to move, and we were lowered down to some kind of podium or hall that was filled with blinding lights. Suddenly, a delicious scent wafted through my nose. It was rich and warm, and it made me hungry. I growled a bit. “Mate,” a girly voice whispered in my head before my shadow was covered by a towering figure. I looked up and was alarmed to come face to face with golden, bright eyes and a face I could never forget. Damon. “Bought,” he spoke in a commanding voice, his power drifting through the room. For some reason, his eyes looked angry. I whimpered in pain and showed him my neck involuntarily in submission. His face was the last I saw before I blacked out.
