RHEA
All day today, I waited for that tingle, something different to show that my wolf was emerging. Yet, nothing.
Today was my eighteenth birthday, and I was looking forward to it even if I couldn’t find my mate. At least I should be able to transform, so why did I not feel different?
I could hear whispers around me, mocking whispers. What made it worse was that Lucien was here. I didn’t want him to see me as weak.
“What’s going on? Do you feel any different?” My mother, Elizabeth, asked for the tenth time that day.
Unfortunately, I didn’t feel any different.
“No,” I whispered, hot, painful tears struggling to spill. I clenched my fist, begging myself to be strong.
My father was the Beta of Grey Town and the Alpha’s right-hand man, and as his eldest daughter, my parents had held a simple party for me, yet the house was filled with our pack members.
“Don’t be sad, Ree. The transformation happens suddenly without any warning,” Lucien said, trying to soothe my nerves.
He said a lot of things, but I couldn’t remember everything. My head and thoughts were on someone else, alarming me. I couldn’t get over the dreams I’ve been having since that night I met him. I wondered if he had gone back to his pack.
“When the moon rises, the urge will come,” my father said in a quiet and chill voice.
Zara snickered with glee, gloating at my misfortune. I didn’t want to give her the satisfaction, and I wanted to transform, but it was impossible.
“Mama,” I turned to my mom. “Can I take a rest? I’m having a bad headache.”
My mother turned to my father, seeking his consent. I felt relieved when he nodded. I couldn’t deal with the various eyes on me.
“Lucien, I’m sorry. You can leave for now,” I smiled sadly at him. I didn’t want to keep him waiting.
“Okay, Ree. I’ll be back later.”
I knew he wanted to go back to his mate and couldn’t stay away from her. I had heard that was one of the effects of the mating bond. I was jealous of the bond he had with his mate.
I climbed the stairs to my bedroom and crashed on my bed. When I finally opened my eyes again, it was hours later.
The house was deadly quiet. I opened my bedroom door, expecting to find my parents and pack members, but instead, nothing.
“Mom,” I called out, my voice echoing through the quiet house. Then I saw the blood, stained on our white wall.
Panic and fear gripped my soul. “What happened?” I asked, but no one answered me. What met me was silence.
I continued walking and met a body lying on the floor. I walked closer and saw that it was my father.
“Father,” I cried out, crouching to turn him over.
“Ahhh!” I cried out in shock, feeling nauseous. Tears rolled down my face as I continued shaking my head. Pure terror washed over me.
“Wake up, father,” I cried, shaking the man, but his body had gone cold. His throat was slashed, and it looked like they bled him dry.
Not too far from him lay my mother. I only went to bed. How did all this happen?
My hands began shaking as I walked to my mother. I couldn’t hold back the painful sob at the back of my throat, and I let it out.
“Someone is here,” I heard a hoarse, slimy voice say, startling me.
I scrambled to hide, but was too late as two men stood before me. They were dirty and had a strange, feral look in their eyes.
Rogues.
“Such a pretty girl,” one of the men said, running his hand through my face.
“Keep your filthy hands off me,” I cried, slapping his hands off. Even though I was scared and my body was trembling, I knew I had to fight to protect myself.
“Pathetic,” the man sneered, laughing and grabbed me.
I had no idea what happened, but he recoiled in shock, shouting.
“Ouch! This b***h is a freak. Be careful,” he warned the other guy.
Before I could make sense of what he just said, I was knocked unconscious. My eyes closed in defeat.
DAMON'S POV
“f**k,” I cursed for the tenth time as I put my c**k back into my pants, breathing heavily. I had no idea what was wrong, but since I met my mate at Grey Town, I’ve been horny and subjected to wanking off. The last thing I expected, attending my half-brother’s engagement party, was meeting my mate, and she was beautiful.
It took everything in my willpower not to mark her right there, but I knew if I did, she might go into heat immediately. Moreover, I could smell her wolf on the edge, but she hasn’t transformed.
She had wild red curly hair. I’ve never seen anyone with such a vibrant color of hair before. Her vixen eyes, a pair of vivid green. She looked so pure and innocent, and her taste, divine. It was like I could still see her. I didn’t want to scare her, so I left before I did something I’ll regret.
I washed my hands and stepped outside, appearing fit and proper with a smile on my face. I could feel my teeth aching; the urge to sink them into that warm, soft body I met was too tempting. I bet her body was as soft as her lips.
“Damon,” Asher called with a huge smile on his face. “What the hell were you doing? I waited so long for you,” he complained.
I felt like slapping this s**t head, but he was one of my good friends, so I endured. “Where are we headed?” I wanted to go to a club and cool off.
“To the black market,” he said, surprising me.
I paused.
I looked at him with a brow up. “I don’t play with that s**t,” I narrowed my eyes, bloodlust filling my bones.
He knew. I was trying to abolish it because of the illegal activities that went on down there, but it was a bit hard. The men involved were all powerful and had connections to my father.
“I know, but I heard they had fresh captives. Everyone is saying that they are beautiful.”
“Still not interested,” I groaned, frustrated. Maybe I should head to Grey Town and make some findings. I turned back to head inside.
“I heard one of the women has red hair. Man, I’ve never met anyone with such colour of hair.” Asher laughed.
“What?” I asked. I had a numbing feeling and was unsettled.
“Sure, man. Let’s go, Jace is on his way there,” he clasped my shoulders.
Even if I had no desire to go, I had to. “Let’s go.”
“Your Highness,” my butler, Gerald bowed to me, appearing from nowhere.
“The king seeks your attention right now,” he said politely.
I frowned at his words. My father can wait; whatever he needs me for can be done after I’m back.
“I’ll be back.” This was all that I said before entering my car with Asher, ignoring my butler’s call.
It didn’t take long for us to get to the Black Market; it was a kind of underground basement. We headed to the private seat booked by Asher. I sat in the middle with Asher to my left and Jace to my right.
I looked on as they lowered the slaves in a decorated manner; it was very fancy.
“Indeed, they didn’t spare any expenses,” I sneered.
I smelled her delicious scent before I saw her. My eyes turned red. My fangs sharpened and my claws elongated.
The girl in a white flimsy dress that left nothing to the imagination was my mate, Rhea.
