chapter one
Imagine being in love with the same guy as your best friend, Igniting a fire that would soon consume your friendship.
That's me, Wanda Flynn. Exploring the complexities of balancing friendships and romantic relationships.
Sage and I have been best friends from the very beginning,we share every secret, every laugh, and every tear...... until him.
It was the best season of the year and I was ready to make it even better. As i walked towards the classes with a fair weather promising peace, the entire hallway stunk. Everyone was trying to find out where the smell was coming from. As soon as I got close to my locker, I knew something was wrong. And there it was, a fish from the other day's lunch, It had been put there to rot in my locker. I almost puked. Then whispers echoed throughout the hallway, almost everyone gave me an awful look. The whispers got louder, and this time even laughs had been heard from behind. I couldn't help but feel embarrassed. I left.
When I got to class, word had already gone around that I keep leftovers in my locker. I was furious. Just before I could react, I noticed Cade and his friends laughing so loud like wild hyenas and looking at me. I walked over to them with my angry girl face and demanded Cade to tell everyone that he left that fish to rot in my locker and not me. But he and his friends laughed even louder.
"You liar!" I exclaimed "You left that smelly fish in my locker and now you think it's funny?" I threw some of his books down and everyone started to watch. One thing about me, I have anger issues. And at that very moment, something was building up in me. I knew what. Anger.
"What is your problem, Wanda?" he asked "You aren't google for you to know everything,we were just laughing about our own stuff."
"Oh,drop the act you jerk!" I was really furious. I wanted to add more, but I held my tongue. Then Sage arrived with the girls. She stopped the argument and calmed me down.
Well, unlike me, Sage is a killer dresser. Had half the school falling for her. She had won a marvelous blue dress to set off her long dark hair. The girls took me aside while Sage talked to Cade. They were pretty close, actually. Sage says she knew him since childhood.
After school, Sage invited me to go out with her and Cade for some ice cream. But I didn't like Cade at all. And even though I did want to go out for some ice cream, I said no to her and I decided to spend some time with Ket and the others instead.
Cade took Sage to the zoo first. Sage actually enjoyed the animals so much. Walked until her feet ached, but was happy to be with Cade.
And even though Cade was like super close to Sage, for some reason,he hated me. And to make things worse, even his friends didn't seem to like me, but they were all trying so hard to find their way into my friend's lives. Seriously, why was I the only one being left out? It must have been karma for not liking any of them in the first place. But either ways, I cared less about them. I decided to focus more on my studies. Mostly.
I couldn't help but feel lonely seeing all the fun my best friend was having with someone else, someone I didn't like. Sage was usually spending more time with Cade and I got the least attention. I tried to act okay, but acting isn't just my thing.
"Oh, my goodness, that new bracelet is killing it Sage." said ket "Where'd you get it?,"
"It's Cade," Sage said "he got it for me as a thank you gift for always being there for him."
"Awww ,so sweet." said Saija. The girls kept on praising her new bracelet and I stayed quiet, pretending not to care. Since when does Cade buy girls gifts anyway?
"And one more thing," said Sage "Cade has invited me to dinner with his family this evening."
"Wait, what!" I exclaimed "But you have to help me with my project this evening."
"I'm so sorry bestie, I already gave Cade my word to be there no matter what. Maybe next time."
I couldn't believe it, she was actually ditching me for that jerk Cade. But I didn't want to create a commotion, so I just ignored everything.
The next few days were miserable, I had to sit alone in class, studied alone in the library, and I even got to eat lunch alone sometimes. I felt horrible. But instead of feeling lonely while watching my friends hang out with Cade and his friends, I chose to still work hard and not let any of it distract me.
The next day, Sage was late for class. As she hurried to get there, her foot clumsily met a cluster of rocks and found herself falling to the ground. Her right leg was fractured and she couldn't walk on her own. One of the cleaners noticed her and quickly called for help. People rushed out of class to watch and I carefully helped Sage up. I wanted to help her get home, but the principal refused saying I couldn't miss lessons. He told one of the teachers to send Sage home and we were all sent back to class.
That day, school wasn't just the same without my best friend. Ket and the others tried to cheer me up but it didn't work much. I couldn't stop thinking of Sage, wondered if she was okay.
Well, at least I wasn't the only one worried. That day, Cade sat alone for lunch and wouldn't talk to anyone. He looked miserable. part of me couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
