The Girl Code

Chapter three

The next day at school, I sat next to Cade myself. I tried to cheer him up by letting him help me with my Math class work, but it didn't work much.

At lunch, Saija told lots of jokes that one of them actually made Cade laugh out loud. I looked at him. Goodness knows why I hadn't noticed earlier what a cute smile he has. He caught me starring at him, but he didn't mind. That day, we talked more and ate less. I liked it.

Since then, things between Cade and I changed, we had become really close friends.

I watched him practice football every Friday, found out he is really good at football. I let him help me with Math and I helped him with Chemistry. We made a pretty great team.

After school, we studied together in the library. I even got to visit his dad in the hospital, he mistook me for his girlfriend and Cade just played along. Discovered I have a crush on him, but got over it, mostly.

One day, he was assigned my lab partner, and it was the most distracted I'd ever been, I kept knocking tumblers together, dropping chemicals everywhere. And Cade was enjoying it.

After school, our drama teacher decided to pair me with Jake, Cade's friend. And there was a scene where we had to kiss infront of everyone.

"Yuck, there's no way Jake's going to kiss her," Cade said "will you, buddy?"

"Excuse me, what's wrong with kissing me?" I asked "It's not a big deal."

"It's just a little hard to imagine his lips and yours tangled up together." said Cade

"And why are you saying all of this on his behalf, if there's need to talk, he'll talk for himself."

"Guess he feels a little gross to even talk to you, Wanda."

Everyone laughed like wild hyenas. I felt like my entire body was boiling up, Cade was just something else.

At least his friend turned out to be different. He pulled me close to him and then he kissed me shamelessly, got the entire crowd silent.

"Well, we have a good kisser here." he winked at me and then walked away. Everyone cheered.

After that, I refused to talk to Cade, I completely ignored him like he was invisible. On my way home, he followed me looking so desperate.

"Hey beautiful." he said.

"Go away jerk!" I was still mad at him.

"Why are you ignoring me Wanda? I was waiting for you at the Library, but you didn't show up. What's going on?"

"Nothing. Can't a girl walk in peace?"

"Aaaah, I get it now, is it about what had happened earlier?"

"Why did you do that to me? You embarrassed me Infront of everyone. You know, just because you naturally hate me doesn't mean everyone else should either."

"Come on, you should be thankful, I know you didn't want to kiss him either."

"We were acting, Cade. FYI, you had no right to say a word about that kiss."

"Why? Did you enjoy it?"

"Why do you care jerk?" I flipped hair off my shoulders and began to walk, then Cade held my hand gently and pulled me close to him. Then, all of the sudden, he kissed me. And I enjoyed it.

"I didn't want you and Jake to kiss because I wanted to make it special for us. I'm into you Wanda, I have been for a while now." he said.

"Jerk, why didn't you say this earlier?"

I kissed him back and confessed my feelings too.

That's when it all started, this love triangle that we both didn't know it was until it became one.

Since then, Cade and I started to hang out more. I got to visit his dad more often, met his mom and little sister, they were all so sweet.

Soon after, I told Ket and the others about Cade and I. And there were all actually happy for me, and it made me happy seeing how okay they were with things. The next few weeks were fun with Cade, I could talk to him about anything.

Then after a few days, Sage had returned from Paris. The girls and I went for a sleepover to her place to catch up on all the latest stories. We had a wonderful time actually. Her mom prepared food for us, we played games, sang songs, talked and laughed.

"Okay, listen, I said my name is Sage McGrath, and then the nurse was all like McGraaaaa!" she teased. We all laughed.

Then she went on about this handsome Polish doctor that had crushed on her mom, and how she turned him down cause she's not ready for a second dad. Then she told us about all the handsome dudes she had met back in Paris .

"Girly, how come you came back single?" asked Ket.

"Come on loves," said Sage "have you seen the guys in Paris? I'm I supposed to date someone with a tattoo on their chest that says 'i'm a player b***h' no freaking way."

"Gross!" said Reya.

Dating? Of course, it was then that I remembered that I wanted to tell Sage about Cade and I. But just before I could say anything, the girls had all retired to bed saying that they were so sleepy. Then Sage sat beside me and asked if I was okay. Of course I wasn't. I don't know why, but something stopped me from telling Sage about Cade and I.

"Yeah," I agreed "I'm good." I lied. Judging my relationship with Cade. Why go on with it when I can't even tell my own best friend?

"I missed you so much bestie," said Sage hugging me. I smiled. I had missed her too.

The next day, Cade and Sage met to catch up. They talked alot, but something was different about them. Sage couldn't see it though, but to Cade, she had just become his girlfriend's best friend. Nothing more.

"How's your father doing?" Sage asked.

"He's really doing better now."

Sage was so happy to hear that he was doing okay, she even offered to visit him one more time.
