Chapter 11

Trinette He seems peacefully sleeping. I stared at the man sleeping on the bed as I'm currently sitting on the chair that was beside the bed. I examined his facial features. He has a nondescript face. Nothing interesting at all. But it's both common and unusual at the same time. My gaze landed on his skin. I don't know if my eyes were just playing tricks on me since it was kinda puffy a while ago because I was crying, but I swore his skin was and smooth and it's as white as an albino person when he reached out to me, going out from the portal, but now that we're in a lighted up room— he just have the same skin as me. Fair white, like porcelain they say. He has a glossy brown hair, it looks healthy and its length is just in average. I guess the people who were once with him took good care of him. Or maybe he took a good care of himself. His cheeks are round and smooth. His nose is straight and not so sharp. His eyebrows are black and thick. His lips are thick, plump and pinkish. I envy him for that. I have pale lips. I used to bite them just to keep the redness but now, I don't care anymore. What's the point anyways? He looks like someone from a rich family. I stared at his face. Wondering, where on Earth could he be came from? Why did he came out from like a portal on the air? Why was he naked? I'm not dumb, I know that wasn't normal. Was he a test subject? Does he came from a laboratory and he was tested to try the portal? Or maybe he was the scientist that tried his own portal experimentation? I tilted my head as I stare at him. Does he even look like a scientist? Ehhh, no. He looks like a model though... Well, he's kinda good-looking. I guess. But what if he really is a test subject? If he's a test subject... is he even human? Well technically some scientists use animals as test subjects. So what if the scientist tested him and he was once an animal and now he's a human? Wait... Then that won't answer the why he came out from the portal? Huh, I guess he really is just a human. Hope so. "Wha—" My heart suddenly skipped a bit as my eyes widened in shock when the man suddenly grabbed my arm with a tight grip. My body froze for a moment before it decided to response. "AAAAAHHHH!" I screamed with a high pitched tone as I immediately swat his hand away, pulling my hand back. I stood up then moves away from him while shouting as I watch him sit on the bed, looking at me emotionlessly. I leaned my back against the wall while I breathe rapidly due from the shock. I knitted my eyebrows as I stare at him staring at me with no single emotion written on his face. I blinked as I noticed the pigment of his eyes. Deep light blue eyes. "Hello." He greeted in a monotone voice. I slightly flinched as he speaks all of the sudden. I blinked for a few times before lowering my head as I greet back. "H-Hi.." "Who are you?" he asked, no hint of emotion in his voice as well. "Uhm," I gulped down my saliva as I fix my posture standing up while facing him. "My name is Trinette.." I said in a low voice, trying to compose myself. Geez, what else should I say— Oh! Right! I pointed at myself. "I‐I saved you from the rooftop!" I eagerly said despite from stuttering with the first word. I stared at him. He stares at me. Emotionlessly. Silence starts to surround us. I can feel an unknown tension growing between us. Every seconds that's passed with his eyes still fixated on me feels awkward. "What happened?!" I flinched once again when the door flung opened, revealing Chris looking tensed. "I heard a scream. What happened?!" he exclaimed as his eyes widened while looking at me. "I... uhm.. I was just looking after my f-friend.." His eyes landed on the man that is also looking at him. Still with his emotionless gaze. "Oh, sir. You're awake." Chris said as he fixes his posture and walked closer to us. "I believe so." He answered with still the monotone in his voice. Chris plastered a small smile on his face then made a firm nod. Why is he talking like that? "Well you should go back to sleep, sir. It's still 1 a.m. I apologize on behalf of our guest," Chris stated as he looked at me. I curved my lips into a small smile. Did I perhaps... messed up? "What's 1 a.m.?" Both of our heads turn to the man on the bed as he asked an unusual question. I tilted my head while looking at her. He doesn't know what's 1 a.m is? Has he ever heard of a clock? "Pardon?" Chris asked. I'm sure he's confused with the man's question as well. Because I am. "1 a.m." He repeated. "What's that?" he continued. I looked back at Chris, waiting for him to answer. I am deeply curious on how he will answer the question. Chris smiled a bit. "It's a time when people are still sleeping. Most people are still sleeping at this hour so you should too." He said. I slowly nodded after hearing his explanation. That was good. "I see," he looks away from us, staring at the white blanket on his lap. "Humans at this hour still needs to sleep." He stated, seems like talking to himself. I knitted my eyebrows. Humans? Why is he addressing his own kind as if he's different from us? I looked at Chris as he gently held my wrist when the man slowly lay back down on the bed, turning his back at us. Positioning himself sideways. Chris gently closed the door the moment we stepped out from the room. "Uhm," I looked up to him as he narrowed his eyes at me. "Sorry...?" I said with an interrogative tone. Because I guess I have to apologize? "You should be, kid. I told you to sleep, not to be nosy." He said. I looked down as I scratched my ear. Yep, I guess apologizing is really a given. "Sorry." I repeated again. I heard him heave a sigh then pats my head lightly. I flinched a bit when an image of my aunt swinging his hand on my head suddenly flashes in my mind. "You're too jumpy," I heard him say. I looked up to him as he puts down his hand. "Go to sleep now. Take a rest. You seem like you've been through a lot today judging from how you look right now." He said. I blinked as I tried to picture on how he's looking at me right now. He's probably looking at the various bruises and the cut on my face. Plus the fact that he saw me all wet and looked like a mess a while ago really gave him the idea that I've been through a lot today. He's not wrong though. I just nodded. "Yeah, kinda." I said in a soft tone. He did a firm nod. "Goodnight." He said as he walked passed by me. I looked back at him stepping out from the condo unit, closing the door behind him. Geez, he's really gonna stay there 'till morning? What a work. I blew a few strands that is blocking my face as I slowly walk towards the other bedroom just beside the man's room. I stared at his door for a moment before I decided to turn the knob of the bedroom I'm staying and stepping my feet in there. Gently, I closed the door.
