Cassidy's POV
The first thing on my list was to call Ivan, my elder brother and notify him about the divorce.
As soon as the nurse came in with my food, I requested for her to bring my phone for me too which she did.
I instantly punched my brother's number and dialed it.
“Hey apple pie.” His voice sounded on the phone followed by a croaky laughter. I raised my brow in confusion.
“How's life going with you?” He asked.
“Not as fun as yours. Your happiness is radiating through the phone.” I hissed.
He responded with another round of laughter and somehow it was infectious.
I let out a subtle smile. I had missed him so much.
“I'm in the hospital.” I answered, my voice lower than a whisper.
“You're having a baby?” He asked, I rarely fell sick so I could understand where he was coming from.
“Technically yes, but not at the moment. I fainted.” I answered.
“Must be one of the symptoms of the pregnancy. Sorry dear.” He stated, his voice filled with concern.
“We're divorced.” I said, waiting patiently for a reaction.
“What do you mean?” He asked softly.
“Dave and I are done.” I answered.
“Wait what?! Is that why you fainted? Did he hit you? Geez!”
I could hear the anger in the voice as he asked those series of questions.
“No. He didn't hit me.” Was all I could respond.
“I'm booking your ticket for the next flight home. Send me your passport link.” He demanded and I quickly forwarded it to him.
“Ivan, I'm not just coming to sulk at the house. I need a part of my inheritance so I can do something else with my life and train my child.” I told him, my voice form with determination.
“I understand. Dave will pay for this dearly.” He stated and sent me the tickets before hanging up.
Once that was settled, I ate my food and waited patiently for the test results to come out so I can be discharged.
My health insurance made it impossible for me to have any kind of diseases lurking within me. I was hundred percent sure that I was fine.
The doctor came with surprise written on his face.
“I'm glad to tell you that you're perfectly fine and also congratulate you because you're three weeks pregnant.” He said.
I smiled at him. “Thank you.”
He looked too excited for me to let him know that I was already aware of the pregnancy.
I picked up my stuff and booked a ride to the airport, making my way home.
At the arrival, my brother was already waiting for me with his convoy. He rushed in to give me a big hug before leading me to the car and letting his men take my luggage.
“Apple pie. I'm glad to have you back.” He stated as soon as I got settled in the car.
“More like you're glad i'm divorced.” I joked and we laughed about it.
We got back to my father's ancestral mansion and I couldn't shake off the feeling of nostalgia that enveloped me.
“I miss home.” I stated, inhaling the familiar scent of my father's house.
“You're so lucky to have inherited this mansion.” I whispered to my brother who just smiled in return.
“Too bad you're female.” He added, just to annoy me.
“I'm an ex wife now. I should be allowed to inherit something.” I stated firmly.
He laughed hysterically. “Definitely, you'll inherit your claim from the divorce.” He stated.
My head dropped in sadness. “Wait.. you didn't?” he asked.
I nodded softly.
“How else did you plan to make him pay for this trash he just pulled with you?” He asked, looking at me as if I had lost my mind.
“I have something else in mind.” I stated.
“It better make sense.” He hissed.
“I didn't want him to think I married him because of his money. Dad is wealthy too.” I started.
Ivan’s eyes brows furrowed in confusion as I spoke.
“I was hoping you could give me one of the companies to run. I'll make sure mine beats his out of the market and he'll learn never to mess with me anymore.” I concluded.
“You're planning to run a company while expecting a baby.” He asked, scrunching his nose as if he just heard the most non reasonable thing.
“I am carrying a baby, not a disease.” I reminded him.
“I'm sorry. I can't grant your wish.” He stated. “Not until after you safely deliver.” He added, almost immediately.
I heaved a sigh of relief. “That'll do.” I stated happily, knowing fully well that my plans are now beginning to come together.
I couldn't wait to see Dave's company crumble to the ground. I already imagined his teary eyes begging for us to join forces to raise his company back to its former position.
It was high time I used my degree and internship skills that I had gotten while interning at PayTON group, my dad's company which was one of the leading companies in Nashville to do something meaningful with my life.
My degree had been laying useless in my file since all these years since my family decided that marrying a billionaire was a better career than what I had imagined for myself.
I smiled devilishly, remembering the part I had played in bringing my dad's company to where it was now and the confidence I had that I could use that skill to my advantage.
I would make sure not only to bring my dad's company to the spotlight but also to dim any limelight that Dave's company had.
It would be a competition that he can’t win, one that will crumble his family investments to the ground. It will take time but it will be worth it.
Dave wouldn't know what hit him when I was done with him. He would come begging and I will surely have my last laugh.
