Cassidy's POV
***Eight months later***
I gave birth to a bouncing baby boy who had a splitting resemblance with his father, my ex husband.
I named him Ryan, after my dad. There was no way I was going to call him Dave junior because his father does not deserve it.
As I look at my little one, it made me realize why it was important for me to carry on with my revenge plan.
I had grown up to read stories of children that turn out badly because of the lack of father figure in their lives and that was not what I planned for my kids, infact that was why I endured being in that marriage in the first place.
This was another offense made by Dave, causing me to raise a child alone against my wish.
As soon asy family members came to rejoice with me at the hospital, I made use of the opportunity to remind Ivan of our plan.
He seemed shocked that I still remembered it but assured me that he had not forgotten.
As soon as my baby was three months, I weaned him and resumed as acting CEO of one of my father's company, Payton holdings limited that ran same housing business as Dave's.
In less than two years, I had taken the company from being the fifth most recognized real estate business to being the third most recognized with Dave's company as the first.
This immediate change made Ivan very happy and promoted me to CEO/Owner of the company.
My joy knew no bounds but I still wasn't fulfilled with Dave's company still being first on the list.
I doubled our capacity in the third year to ensure that we weren't just the second best but we were almost ties with Dave's company, infact most of his shareholders had started looking to invest in our business too.
I noticed all of these still hadn't caught his attention as his company seemed to be unbothered.
I was about to launch one last blow when the news of the death of my grandfather hit me.
It struck my bones like a tornado. He had been the rock of our family since the death of my father and now he had passed on too, leaving us with Ivan as the eldest in the family.
We mourned him for some days before flying over to bury him at Nashville. I took Ryan along.
As we landed Nashville, the hurtful memory of Dave clouded my head but I tried my best to shake it aside.
After burying my grandfather and we were about to book a return ticket home, I got an emergency call from my PA telling me that I had an event to attend here at Nashville.
She had told them I wasn't available but since i was already in the country, she thought it was a good idea that I join as the host was a potential investor and most importantly, he was Dave's biggest shareholder.
“Why not?” I told her, excitement written all over me knowing fully well that Dave will be present in that ball and I was going to give him the shock of his life.
I told Ivan to return without me and made a quick phone call to Nova who was surprised to hear from me. I knew he was also in the building business and must have heard about the ball. I needed him as my plus one.
***At the ball***
I suddenly clutched Ryan's hand a little too hard due to the nervousness that was already building up inside of me. Despite my resolve to make Dave regret this night, I didn't know if it will be as successful as I imagined it.
I led Ryan inside the ball as I looked around for Nova who promised to be waiting for me.
My eyes came in contact with him, he hadn't changed much. He still has his lanky stature and emerald eyes making it easy for me to recognise him as he strode towards us.
Unsure of what to do, he waited for me to make the first move and I jumped on his arms, surprising the hell out of him.
I looked over my shoulders to see Dave staring at me like his eyeballs were about to pop out from their sockets.
My muscle tensed from seeing him and I rolled my fist into a ball as I remembered the hurtful words he threw at me.
I instantly removed my gaze from him and acted as if he didn't exist as I gave Nova a peck on his cheek.
He looked surprised but wiped it off his face and proceeded to carry Ryan into his arms.
“Get away from my child!” A familiar voice of Dave shouted, as he oushed Nova away from Ryan causing everybody to stare at him as if he had lost his mind.
He crouched low to Ryan's level and took in their similar features as tears began to form in his eyes.
The host of the party seemed displeased at his action which was a breakthrough for me. But a part of me felt pity for me.
He seemed unbothered as the bouncers threatened to throw him out but went down on his knees.
“Cassidy.” He called out to me.
I turned away from him, hiding the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes as I yanked my child away from his touch.
All these years he had ignored us, he didn't bother to check if we were dead or alive but now that he had seen his son, he suddenly wants forgiveness.
My anger towards him kindled the more as I remember how I also begged but was chased away like a thief.
“Please let me make things right between us.” He continued.
I swallowed my tears and turned to face him, ensuring our eyeballs locked.
“Save your tears Dave. Nothing can work between us anymore.” I told him.
“You're dead to me.” I added, before carrying Ryan in my arms and pulling Nova over. Together we walked out of the party.
