Elena Pov
"So what's on your mind?" my grandma asked.
"Lucas told me something, something about him and I don't know if I believe it," I explained to her. "I mean I don't believe it, it's so crazy."
"But,"
"Well, something inside me, tells me to believe him. I don't want to lose him but this is all so complicated," I told her.
"Mind telling me what he told you?" she asked. I wondered if I could say it. I wondered what she would say if I told her. I didn't say anything. I just stayed quiet. "Does it have anything to do with him being a wolf?"
"How did you know?"
"He told me last night,"
"Really?"
"Elena, I don't know what to say. He is a very unique young man. He loves you. He is very adamant about him being a wolf. I don't know if I believe it myself but I do know he cares for you and doesn't seem like he would lie about something like this,"
"This is not a fairy tale, gran. This is not fantasy, this is my life,"
"He isn't a prince, he is a man who loves you and wants you to get to know him,"
"What do I do?"
"Go see him," she said. I got up and went looking for him. I knew where to go. I walked the path to the woods. The woods where I first met him. My heart was racing.
I suddenly saw him standing in front of me.
"Elena," he whispered. "I am so glad you came." He sounded so weak and tired. I walked towards him.
"You have no idea what you have done for me," he spoke again. "You set me free and your love is what keeps me going."
"Lucas,"
The sun was setting, it was beautiful. Lucas got down on one knee and looked deep into my eyes.
"I never thought I would find you. I never thought I would get a second chance. I love you and I hope you can put your faith in me and believe me. Even if you can't I'll show you and no matter what happens I want you to know this love is like none I've ever known before. It's true and everlasting. I want to make you my wife. I got you this, I hope you wear it, always. Everywhere I go, I'll think of you. I won't let go and I won't forget." There were suddenly so many fireflies flying around us. The moon was full with a strange orange hue. It looked like a hunter's moon. Lucas put the box he was holding down on the ground. He began to shift. He turned into the wolf I had met and befriended within seconds. I fell to my knees and began to cry.
"You didn't need to do that, I believed you. I swear," I cried. "Change back." He didn't.
"LUCAS!" I cried out. "Please." The wolf nudged the box. I opened it. It was an oval-cut moonstone ring with a rose gold band that had diamonds all around it. I cried even harder.
"PLEASE!!!"
The Next Day
I don't know how I made it to bed. I really didn't remember anything. I got up and made breakfast, took a shower, and went to see gran.
"Hey,"
"Hello dear," she greeted. "What's wrong?"
"I don't know, I feel like I am forgetting something but I don't remember what it is,"
"You will figure it out," she smiled.
"Hope so, it's bothering me so much,"
I left for work. I was greeted by all the pugs.
"Hey guys, you missed me," I said to them. They all began to howl. Yes, howl not bark. I thought it was strange.
"They have been doing that all day," Carmen told me. "They think they are wolves now."
"Apparently," I remarked.
"How are you doing?" Ken asked.
"I'm okay, I just feel a little off," I answered.
"You look it," Rachel added.
"Wow, thanks," I laughed.
"Want to take the day off?" she asked.
"No, working will help me,"
"Okay,"
I played with the pugs since there weren't any customers in yet.
"Good morning," Calvin said as he entered the shop.
"Hi," I said back.
"How are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm good and you?" I asked back.
"All good, so would you like to have dinner with me tonight?"
"Sure,"
"Perfect, I'll pick you up at seven,"
"You and the doc," Ken remarked.
"You two will be perfect together," Rachel said.
"I don't see it," Carmen commented. "You need a ruggedly handsome type." I tried to picture what she meant but my mind wouldn't let me. I laughed at her remark and went to go serve Calvin his breakfast.
That night, I went out with Calvin. He took me to some fancy restaurant in the city. It was nice but it felt off somehow. I didn't exactly know why but it felt strange. After dinner, he took me home. I invited him inside for some coffee. We sat and talked. He told me a little about him. He told me he doesn't really listen to music all like that and how he only likes the season Summer. I realized we were very different. I loved music so much and my favorite season was Autumn.
"I am having such a good time," Calvin remarked.
"Me too," I smiled slightly.
"We should do this again?"
"Um,"
"Tomorrow," he said. "I'll pick you up again, same time." Calvin stood up and I walked him to the door. He turned to look at me. "I really like you, Elena." He leaned down and tried to kiss me. I moved away just in time before his lips met mine.
"Sorry, if I was too forward," he smiled softly.
"No, it's okay, I am just not ready for that," I said. I didn't know why. I did kind of like Calvin but I didn't have any feelings for him like that. I didn't want to lead him in but it was also something else. Something inside me told me not to let him kiss me. I brought my hand to my chest and held it there.
"He's a good guy Elena, give him a chance," I told myself.
