Elena Pov
"Earth to Elena," Carmen said.
"Oh, sorry, what happened," I said suddenly.
"The customers look ready to order," she pointed.
"Oh, okay," I said as I went over to their table. I was still thinking about Lucas and everything he said. I didn't know what came over him and why he would tease me like that. Was he making fun of me? God, I think he thinks I am crazy.
"Elena," I heard someone call my name.
"Calvin, hey how are you?" I said politely.
"I'm good and you?" he asked.
"I'm okay," I smiled slightly.
"Good, good, so did you want to sit with me, if that's okay?" I looked over at Carmen and she was gesturing me to stay. I sat at his table and awkwardly waited for him to say something.
"I miss talking to you," Calvin broke the awkward silence. I just smiled. I couldn't say the same. I didn't once think about Calvin, especially since I have been spending all my time with Lucas.
"Did I overstep?" Calvin asked.
"No, it's just I have a lot on my mind," I said.
"ELENA!" I heard his voice. My body reacted. It sent tingles all down my spine. I smiled and turned to face him. He wasn't smiling back though. "Why are you with him?"
"Lucas," I whispered.
"Come here," he demanded. I was confused but stood up.
"Elena, you don't have to go or do what he says," Calvin said.
"Elena," Lucas called again. "Stay out of this doc." Calvin began to stand up but I held out my hand.
"Please," I said. "It's okay, I need to speak to him." I turned and left with Lucas.
"What is wrong with you?" I shouted. "That is my workplace, you can't make a scene. I can't do that to Ken and Rachel."
"I'm sorry but that's just how I am, I am a wolf, we get possessive," Lucas explained.
"Don't start with that," I sighed.
"I am not lying," he insisted. "You are my mate and I am a wolf who loves you with all my heart."
"Lucas,"
"I would show you but I might not be able to turn back,"
"Lu,"
"Okay, okay, can you just let me tell you the whole story and if it still doesn't convince you. I will go."
"Um," I paused. "Um okay." He took my hands and started telling me his story.
"I was born a wolf in the Eastwood pack. When my best friend Aidan became the alpha, I became the beta. We lived for roughly over 100 years, we don't age as normal humans do. I had never met anyone like you before but I can't deny I have loved once before," Lucas paused and looked into my eyes. "I fell in love with a girl named Hope. She was funny and witty. She was beautiful and brave. There was only one problem. She was the mate of my alpha, of my best friend. I made a mistake getting too close to her. I spent so much time with her, thinking I was just looking out for her. Aidan was a stubborn guy and getting over his own heartache at the time. See, Hope was his second chance mate. That is another complicated story but anyway, I thought it was my fault that his first love Faith, died. So, I wanted to watch over Hope and help them get closer. The more time I spent with her, the more I fell. Aidan was being stubborn and pushing her away. It was hard to watch. We got dragged into a very bizarre dream-like place and if you are still following. In this dream world, Hope was my mate. I kissed her and held her. I knew I shouldn't because even outside the dream world, I kissed her and held her. I made a huge mistake and vowed to show my friend that I had not betrayed him. I shifted into my wolf form and stayed by their side. I protect him and his family. I paid back all the hurt I had caused by my lies and unloyalty. During their child's birthday, there was an attack. I stepped in and protected them. I died that day. I literally died. I came back, I was a wolf again but my memories were scattered in my mind. I slowly found myself and then I found you. I found you and I felt things even as a wolf. I felt this need to be with you, to see you, to love you. I got the chance to shift back and here I am. Elena, this is all confusing and weird. I have dealt with having to explain all this to a human before," he smiled slightly. "I know this is so much to take in. I know this is all crazy and sounds like a fantasy fairy tale but it's true."
"I don't know what to say," I told him.
"You don't have to say anything, take some time but please, please try," he begged. "I love you. I can't live without you and I know that is also some heavy s**t but it's the truth. I don't have much time left but please just try to have an open mind."
"Okay," I said softly. I was concerned by his last few words. He didn't have much time left. What did that mean? He left as suddenly as he appeared.
I went back to work and as soon as I finished my shift I went to my grandma's bakery.
"Hey, gran,"
"Hi," she smiled. "How are you?"
"I don't know," I said honestly.
"Boy trouble?" she questioned as she raised her eyebrow.
"How did you know?"
"A certain boy was wallowing outside your door last night,"
"REALLY," I said surprised.
"He was so out of sorts I decided to lend him an ear and give him some hot cocoa," I smiled.
"So, what did you guys talk about?"
"How about you stop by my place tonight and I can lend you an ear and some hot cocoa too,"
"Okay,"
